Imaginary Worlds - Origin Stories
Hey, I’m Eric Molinsky and this is a special edition Imaginary Worlds that we’re airing for listeners of Podapalooza.COVID 19 is impacting the entire world, and some people who are definitely being harder hit than others. I’m really proud to have this chance to give back while doing something that I love, which is making my podcast.I was a public radio reporter and producer for many years before I began making Imaginary Worlds. My show is about sci-fi and other fantasy genres, and I often joke that my podcast sounds like what if NPR went to ComicCon and decided that’s all they ever wanted to cover. But Imaginary Worlds is really about the people who create those worlds because these fantasy genres may be set on distant planets or in parallel universe, but they are crafted here on Earth and always relate to our daily lives. The best way to get to know my show is hear my origin story. So, I’m going to play my first episode, and then afterward, I’m going to play an extended cut from an upcoming episode that I’m really excited about. And if you like what you hear, you can find Imaginary Worlds wherever you listen to podcasts. So, here is my origin story from the episode back in 2014.This episode was specially selected for Podapalooza, a podcast festival to benefit COVID relief. The Drop: Music in a Pandemic
Musicians have been affected immensely by the coronavirus pandemic. No live shows, no touring, a lot of income disappearing in a matter of days. But some musicians are thriving, through live video, basement shows, and even podcasts. In this special episode of The Drop, a daily music news podcast from Osiris Media, host RJ Bee will talk with two guests—Chris Pandolfi, the banjo player from The Infamous Stringdusters, and the host of the podcast Inside the Musician's Brain; and Bob Crawford, bassist for The Avett Brothers and the host of the podcasts Road To Now and Politics of Truth. Bob and Chris will talk about how their careers have been affected, how they’ve found inspiration for podcasting and music during the pandemic, and where the music industry goes from here. Proof - Who Killed The Miracle Berry?
In the 1970s, the Miracle Berry was poised to become the sugar replacement of choice. It was hailed as the solution to the diabetes epidemic, and was preferred to every other sugar alternative in blind taste tests. The fruit contains a taste-altering protein, miraculin, that makes sour foods taste sweet. So why haven't you heard of it? Did "big sugar" engineer its downfall? And can modern food entrepreneurs reposition the miracle berry as the future of sweet? This episode was specially selected for Podapalooza, a podcast festival to benefit COVID relief.
