The Curtain Call
The Death of the Greatest Show, Part III: The Curtain Call There are few surviving records of Studio's final shows from 2018-2020, of which none of these shows can be found online. Mostly because after the events we talked about last time, Studio was prohibited from uploading anything else to their YouTube channel. We knew the writing was on the wall, but when intracollegiate politics reached a breaking point and the COVID-19 pandemic shattered any semblance who was in control, it felt only natural that Studio 4109: LIVE! came to an end. Live from Happy Valley & Washington, D.C. one last time. This is the final episode of Phil's Philosophies Podcast for the forseeable future and the Season 2 finale. Special Guests include: Delaney Harris, Angelica Rodriguez, Kevin Christenson, Doug Frood, Pablo Fernandez, Armondi Stokes-Hicks, and Kat Millholm. The Death of the Greatest Show, Part II
It's November 2016. This is the new Studio 4109: LIVE! with an almost entirely new team. After the Season 5's massive success, we were all riding the wave...but it was like trying to build a bridge over troubled water. This episode covers Seasons 6 & 7 of Studio, highlighting the reasons for its decline and censorship. Live from Happy Valley, one last time. Special Guests include: Gelissa Leveille, Kat Millholm, Armondi Stokes-Hicks, Jonathan Blackburn, Nathaniel Melville, Kevin Christenson, Danny Alvarez (Danny Polo), and Jordan Putt. The Death of the Greatest Show, Part I
After 10 years of comedy, entertainment, and music, Studio 4109: LIVE! was canceled on my 25th birthday, February 24th, 2021. For many of us, it was the greatest show we'd ever been a part of—it was our family. But after years of decline, a pandemic, and a ceiling that these creators could never hope to break, it was time for one last curtain call. Live from Happy Valley, one last time. Tabloid Junkie Part II
“Just because you read it in a magazine or see it on the TV screen don't make it factual. See, but everybody wants to believe all about it." Those were words that were sung by Michael Jackson in his 1995 song "Tabloid Junkie." Those words, couldn't be any more true 25 years later, when I woke up the morning of February 23rd, 2020. I was expecting a relaxed brunch with my girlfriend Natalia and some time spent with friends before we made the drive back to my grandparents' suburb outside of Atlanta. But then the messages were bombarding my phone. Let’s drink some tea, shall we? Special guests include: Melanie Holmes, Michaela Lewin, Elizabeth Quiñones, Aimee Anunciacion, and Madeline Mace. Tabloid Junkie
If you've been watching Bridgerton, you've probably heard of Lady Whistledown. She's an elusive figure with an unknown identity (that I won't spoil) who spills all the tea about the elite in London, England. The Americans listening to this pod don't drink tea like their British counterparts, but they sure do love to spill it all the same. Our tea, you ask? It's the constant quote tweets on Twitter, Instagram confession pages, Facebook conspiracies, heck, even Clubhouse unproductive conversations that keep us glued to our screens...because everybody likes a good story, however untrue it may be. Today, we’re engaged in a bit of a “Who Dunnit?” Because I’ve been framed. And everyone was talking about it all weekend back in February 2020. Special guests include: Madeline Mace, Elizabeth Quiñones and Natalia López-Thismón. The Accidental Feminist Part II
We're continuing our conversation on feminism by scratching the surface of the feminist movement and experience for marginalized groups in America. As Sojourner Truth once said, "Ain't I A Woman?" Feminism is multifaceted and just as nuanced in this world where we’re all fishing for labels to put on people. Labels are easy, but they oftentimes come with a troubled past. If feminism means the things our guests discuss, then count me in. Maybe it’s time to stop being an accidental feminist, but an intentional one. Special guests include: Joëlle Kanyana, Deneé McClain, Alexy Gatica, Dr. Lisa Clark-Diller, and Adeline Piotrowski Phil's Philosophies Blog: phillipwarfield.com/blog Instagram: @phillipmwarfield Twitter: @_PhilWarfield Support our show by becoming a premium member! https://absurdpodcastnetwork.supportingcast.fm

The Accidental Feminist Part I
In 2021, feminism still gets a bad rep from tons of people. There’s the crowd that says, “Women should be absolutely equal to men,” or those who say, “Females should just stay in their place—happy wife, happy life.” There’s the women comfortable with being bare-chested and marching for justice, the women who wear massive costumes depicting their private parts, and the women who may dump acid on you for man-spreading on the Metro. But what makes a feminist a feminist? Am I a feminist in every sense of the word? Are you? Are you not? An Oreo: The Whitest Black Guy He Ever Knew
When I attended high school in New Mexico, I often ran into some problems. I was most people’s first. First Black friend, more specifically. So how did I code switch, gain friends, and survive some of the micro aggressions that came with being Black in a state where only 2.6% of the entire population looked like me? And how do most Black kids deal with being called an Oreo? 053 - The Quiet Soul: Pastor Melvyn Warfield, Jr.
Uncle Melvyn and I sat down and a had a conversation in September 2019, right before I boarded a plane to Spain for the next few months. I was 23-years-old, feeling SUPER clueless and thought I’d talk to the only big brother I’ve ever really had. He told me about the time he was struggling with his own calling. He was the Quiet Soul, the introverted pastor in a world where he realized he could only be fulfilled in doing what he knew he was chosen to do. 052 - From Pre-Med to Louis Vuitton: Tyler Mason
My childhood friend, Tyler Mason, made a big leap. In his last year of undergrad, he dropped his business and pre-medical track degree, put in a lot of work, launched a fashion line and an accompanying pop-up event, and still graduated on time! In this episode, Tyler and I discuss his journey at a small liberal arts university to joining one of the most recognizable fashion brands on the planet: Louis Vuitton. We also talk about our childhood memories, his first steps into embracing his creativity, his fashion journey, and how his student defeated him in his largest basketball championship game ;). I had a conversation with Moses Maier, a mentor and the Student Association President of my university right before me. 049 - "All In" for Your Life: Sabrina Tarbox
Sabrina Tarbox is someone I’ve come to know in only the past three years. Growing up in rural, east Texas, Sabrina’s childhood centered around the rustic life. She grew up feeding her goats, running around and playing outside, and hearing comments that suggested she was “heavy, beefy, or too stocky.” When her father died, Sabrina began a journey to discovering who God was to her: “I don’t have a father, so you’ll have to be my Father now,” she’d said. Today, you’ll hear Sabrina’s journey to win her university’s first Ninja Warrior event where she beat every male participant, the impact of her father’s death at age 9, her life’s pursuit of health and wellness for herself and others, and the steps she took in marrying her husband and my longtime friend, Chandler Tarbox. 048 - I Will Not Be a Statistic: Angelica Rodriguez
Angelica Rodriguez is a young, Dominican social worker-in-training. To her friends, we call her Jelly. When the education department at her university told her she wouldn't succeed, she joined the social work department, finding a place where all of her passions unite. After watching 13th on Netflix, she realized how passionate she was about prison reform. Throughout her life, Jelly's been counted out, but she refuses to be a negative statistic. She'll make something of herself, even if the only one who believes in her is herself. In this episode, we discuss Jelly’s dreams, the world she came from, the college dean who told her she wouldn’t be successful, why she wants to work in the prison system, and why she cannot have children. 046 - Live Life the Way You Want It: Danny Polo
I first heard the talented Danny Polo when he won my school’s talent show in college and have been following his career ever since. Danny continues to put out high quality content while he’s a full-time nurse. His dream is to be a full-time artist and in this episode we discuss his journey thus far, his latest EP, his inspirations, and the hardworking behind the talent. Side note: Today is Thursday, June 25th, 11 years after the death of my favorite entertainer, singer, dancer, and so much more, Michael Jackson. Danny and I end up talking a little bit here and there about MJ because I always bring him up in conversation with some of my talented musician friends. Daniel Quiñones is Wild Man Dan, the next Steve Irwin. He’s always been passionate about anything that’s creepy and crawly since childhood. He’s totally okay with handling poisonous spiders and venomous snakes, while his best friend (usually a lizard) tags along. In this episode we discuss Wild Man Dan’s love for reptiles and his once-$15,000 collection, the time he scared me so badly that I ran out of his house barefoot, how he created his own web series, and how he improved the fragmented relationship with his father—enabling Wild Man Dan to chase his true passion. At the end of last summer, I drove over to my friend Marc-Anthony’s house for a haircut. After he had me looking straight, we were able to sit down and discuss life. With everything happening in our world right now, I’m glad I held onto this moment I had with him for a moment like this. Today, we’re not only learning Marc-Anthony’s story of resilience, but also some key gems: fatherhood, building wealth, and investing in your career right after college.
