Hopefully our creativity is naturally our happy place. But what happens when you’re not creating? Basically, you can’t depend on things like this to be your only source for happiness, it has to come from something consistent within yourself that you can access at any given moment. When I think of networking I try to think of it as a way to build my intimate artists community. It helps take the dirty word out of the equation. Though, Hollywood isn’t always the easiest place to connect to people, regardless of how you may relate. So networking and building your artists community may vary based on many variables, like how you personally like to approach the activity, what type of event you may be attending and what industry you’re in.    What is your take on the networking scene in L.A? Limitations are part of life right? So of course, they are going to be part of the creative process. But they are not necessarily good or bad. They are either part of the circumstance or they are put in place to support the structure of getting things done. As creators our work is often on display, which feels like we, the artists, are on display. We put ourselves out there to effect our communities and leave room for interpretation. So how do you deal with those interpretive comments that come through in person or on social media?  They can be in the form of criticism or praise and we, as artists, often don’t know how to simply accept either version of this. Not to mention the social differences between cultures as to what is considered an acceptable response!    What do YOU when receiving criticism or praise? The idea of when to say yes or no to something or someone can start at the micro level of when to pursue an idea you have and when to share it and with who, all the way to when to collaborate and when to say yes or no to someone else’s creative endeavor. It means understanding boundaries, understanding where you are in your process and knowing that these parameters have the ability to fluctuate. In this episode we explore the topics of resistance and rebellion. Taken from The War of Art  by Steven Pressfield the section entitled “Resistance is Universal" simply states: “We are wrong if we think we are the only one struggling with resistance. Everyone who has a body experiences resistance.”  For artists, this element within us seems to be even more prominent and we discuss our experiences with getting in our own way, learning how to stop resisting ourselves, letting go of feeling comfortable and perfectionisms. The rebelliousness is how we create a perspective to shine a light on something differently than is currently perceived and of course, much more.
