My guest on the podcast this week is Maura Thompson. Originally from Philadelphia Maura lives in Hong Kong with her husband and their two children. In the podcast Maura tells her story of coming to Hong Kong and how she fell in love with the city.  Maura is a co-founder of Sassy Media Group. She calls herself an accidental entrepreneur. Co-founding Sassy in 2009 initially as a hobby. Sassy has now grown to include 2 brands Sassy and Sassy Mama with locations in Hong Kong and Singapore employing 25 people. "Music Therapy" with Angela Shum
Angela served as a Registered Nurse (RN) for more than 15 years having qualified over 25 years ago in 1998. She later became a Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC).  Angela is also Certified Music Therapist (MTA) and a Fellow of the Association for Music and Imagery (FAMI).   Having previously worked as a Rehabilitation Therapist at the Provincial Hospitals in Canada and as a Music Therapist at the state hospital in California, Angela has a wide and deep experience of working with clients. Angela now has her own private practice in Hong Kong and is involved in several research programs with local institutions.    In the podcast Angela shares a story of a client dealing with the after effects of an unwanted pregnancy, the grieving process and dealing with loss. How this was further complicated by her family situation. “Chiropractic is Health Insurance” with Dr Heidi Petrick
Dr Heidi Petrick started her professional career 25 years ago in Australia. She moved to Hong Kong in 2000 where she has worked with a wide variety of clients including but not exclusively athletes, office workers, teachers and footballers. Heidi holds multiple qualifications including a BSc from University of New South Wales, Master of Chiropractic from the Macquarie University of Sydney and a Diploma of the International Academy Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine.   In the podcast Heidi goes into detail on diagnosing and treating her clients and emphasizes that today there is a generation who have grown up with electronic pads and telephones, sitting poorly at their computers. Spine misalignment is clearly a big problem, it can result in pain or pins and needles.   A spinal screening is used to diagnose any underlying condition and Heidi also explains how by looking at the sole of footwear she can identify signatures in the wear that give her an insight into the clients underlying condition.  A frequent check-up with her can catch potential problems before they become serious.  Heidi shares her insights on how we can help ourselves including sitting up straight, staying mobile and undertaking physical exercise and eating well. Doing this she believes we can escape chronic pain and its debilitating consequences. "Everyone is Beautiful" with Gary Lau
My guest on the podcast this week is Gary Lau. Gary was born in USA and he grew up between Hong Kong and the US. "From Designing Fashion to Designing Food" with Tina Barrat
Originally from France Tina is a vegan chef.  Tina moved to Hong Kong as a fashion designer and instantly fell in love with Hong Kong, for her Hong Kong is special.  She became well known for designing jewelry crafted with semi-precious stones and sold at high end stores such as Lane Crawford and on Peddar Street  in Hong Kong  and Le Bon Marche in Paris. However, in 2008 the financial crisis hit and business reduced dramatically.  Tina tells the story how this ultimately led to her opening her first café, Maya Café,  The café served vegetarian food and Tina tells the story of how every weekend she had queues of people outside wanting to try her zoodles. Noodles made from zucchini  in a French style. Hong Kong people are very curious about food says Tina and started creating her own sauce recipes.   Her current restaurant is called "Ma…and the Seeds of Life". Her cooking is vegan. Tina shows her customers  a creative way to try vegan cooking. A sensory experience, vegan fine dining, in a spacious environment, with very delicate plating and very delicate taste.     Tina has recently started weight training. She was starting to lose strength and she fell down a few times and suffered broken ribs. After just two weeks she noticed she found her strength was improving and she can now carry more and she feels so good. Tina shares this and other stories in the podcast. " Cardiax Lab - Your Heart in Smart Hands" with Venus Chow
My Guest on the podcast this week is Venus Chow. Venus grew up in Hong Kong and at the age of fifteen went to the UK to continue her studies. She graduated from University College London in Applied Medical Sciences before graduating with a Masters in Cardiovascular Research from Kings College London. Venus is currently working as a health consultant at the Cardiax Lab in Hong Kong. Cardiax  Lab offers noninvasive cardiovascular screening and diagnosis and heart care management.  Venus goes into detail on the noninvasive cardiovascular checkup using the “HOTMANTM SYSTEM” which can measure up to 30 different parameters related to heart health. A system that was originally developed by NASA to monitor astronauts blood pressure during space missions and has now been adapted for cardiovascular screening.  In the podcast we go into detail of the “Traffic Light System” to classify different degrees of heart health and the associated actions that are recommended to her clients. "Body Talk" with Angie Tourani
Angie Tourani is an Advanced, Certified Body Talk Practitioner she practices Holistic Health Care called “Body Talk System”. She teaches workshops in Body Talk and Mindscape, an active guided Meditation. Angie trains people to become certified Practitioners in this field. Body Talk is a holistic therapy grounded in the belief that people can use their innate wisdom to heal themselves more efficiently than technology can.  Originally from India, Angie was previously a commerce student. She was always interested and inquisitive about Holistic Health she attended an introductory talk on “Body Talk System” and signed up for a four-day seminar called “Body Talk Fundamentals” She started using the modality on her children and within one month she could see her children’s health shifting. "Being Strong" with John Bower
John Bower is a Personal Trainer and HR Manager at FLEX Fitness, an Executive Coach and an expert in Leadership Talent Development.  His motivation to become a personal trainer arose from his desire to be able to keep up with his teenage sons. At the age of 54 John broke his leg wakeboarding, and up until that point he had never gone to the gym. He discovered at 54 he was no where near as strong as he used to be the previous time he suffered a broken leg at 30.  The broken leg was a blessing in disguise. Strength had become an issue in his life. John tells this story in the podcast.  Being strong has many benefits and John goes into detail on the benefits in the podcast.  improving bone density, blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and protecting against falls.
