It's the final week before the big show on Sunday!  And after putting it off for months, Kerry and Allison finally saw "Avatar: The Way of Water", and boy do they have some thoughts...  Kerry discusses "Argentina:1985" and Allison talks about "Empire of Light", two movies they both enjoyed, each with only a single nomination.  They also review their picks for who they want to win vs. who they think will win, in the top 6 awards.  Final stats, ceremony news and much more! 

This week Kerry and Allison talk about some of the films that stood out and others that missed the mark.  Kerry discusses her love of the animated short "The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, The Horse", Allison discusses her indifference to "Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths" and they have a conversation about their mutual dislike of "Blonde".  Kerry gives an update of some of the major awards that have been handed out so far (PGAs, DGAs and BAFTAs) and Allison provides details on some hard to find titles. This week on the Oscar Hustle Allison and Kerry talk about the feature length doc "All The Beauty and The Bloodshed".  Kerry gives an update on the return of the regular format Oscar ceremony (no more creative category editing), Allison discusses some of the hard to find short films and they give their thoughts on Diane Warren, who still has not won an Oscar despite her 14 (almost yearly) nominations.  

Another week closer to the Oscar ceremony, and another week full of movies. On this episode Kerry and Allison talk about how sometimes you have to be in the right frame of mind to see a certain type of movie (case in point Allison loved "All That Breathes", Kerry did not).  They discuss "The Whale '' and Brendan Fraser's performance, as well as other films where the performers transform themselves physically, and secure a nomination.  They have an update on "Empire of Light", make a few predictions and much more. 

It's been a busy week of movies for Kerry and Allison.  On this episode they discuss some surprising standouts from the shorts categories and their thoughts on the film "Living".  Kerry discusses the multi-nominated "All Quiet on the Western Front", the academy's historic love of war movies and how this movie differs from the rest.  Allison reveals her love of RRR and does a deep dive on the length of many of this year's film runtimes. Kerry and Allison are back for another busy Oscar season!  In this episode they discuss the recent Oscar nominations, the snubs (no Viola Davis!), the surprises (Top Gun: Maverick's screenplay nom) and much more.   They reveal their (very sad) opening stats, discuss what they've seen going into this year's hustle and make some plans for the upcoming week. With 54 movies to see in 5 weeks there is a lot to get organized! 

The Academy Awards were handed out on Sunday and this year's race has come to an end.  In this episode Kerry and Allison do an in depth recap on the ceremony itself and talk about all the goings on in the Dolby Theatre that night.   They talk about the hosts, the winners and they briefly touch on the moment that sucked the air out of the room. They go over the highlights (Troy Kotsur and Questlove's moving acceptance speeches) and the head scratching moments (Why the heck was BTS there? Why was "White Men Can't Jump" given a standing ovation?) But most importantly they reveal their final stats and percentages.  It's been quite a ride! 

The time is here, the Oscar Ceremony is right around the corner!  With the race to the end closing in, there is much to talk about. This week they are joined by their fellow Oscar completionist pal Kristy, and do a deep dive into some of the categories and nominees. They discuss what they want to win versus what they think will win, with some surprises.  Kerry recaps the (unsurprising) Critic Choice Awards and Allison recaps the (unsurprising) BAFTAS.  Will this year be a sweep for "Power of the Dog"?  Does "Belfast" have a chance to take some top prizes?  Will "Dune" take all the technical awards? Can anyone tell them why "Drive My Car" is so acclaimed? Tune in, they have some thoughts!

The Oscars are in 9 days and Kerry and Allison are closing in on finishing seeing all of this year's nominated movies.  This week they talk about two lesser known International Feature nominees "Hand of God" from Italy and "Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom" from Bhutan. Allison also confesses her surprising fondness for "Encanto".  They follow up on the backlash from the Academy's proposed format change, discuss some of the confirmed presenters and re-cap the Independent Spirit Awards.

It's officially awards season!  In this episode Kerry and Allison recap the recent Screen Actor Guild Awards, the upcoming Director Guild Awards and discuss how the results of these awards add momentum to the Oscar nominees.  They review their week in film:  Allison recaps her strong feelings for both "Cruella" and "Spencer" and Kerry discusses the surreal beauty of "Ascension" and "The Tragedy of MacBeth".  They take a deep dive and have a full circle moment discussing the recently released nominated short "When We Were Bullies".  And finally they talk about how to prevent Oscar burnout during the home stretch.

In the last week, the Academy has announced their plans for how this year's ceremony will look.  And boy do Kerry and Allison have some thoughts.... In this episode they have a passionate discussion about why the Oscars should stay with the same format they have used for years and champion the categories that are getting removed from the broadcast.  They review their week in film, discuss "Parallel Mothers" and finally talk about this year's frontrunner "The Power of the Dog".  

The Oscar ceremony is in 30 days and hustle is on!  In this episode, Allison and Kerry take a look at two favourites for the Best International Feature category "Drive My Car" and "Worst Person In The World".  They discuss the bizarre musical "Cyrano", some other hits ("King Richard") and misses ("Four Good Days") for the week, Dianne Warren as the Oscars Susan Lucci, as well as the importance of proper theatre seating etiquette.  

It's week three and Kerry and Allison have seen some movies.  In this episode they discuss a few personal highlights: Kerry champions the multi-nominated feature "Belfast", and Allison shines a light on the short animation "Affairs of the Art" . They discuss why you have to be in the right mood to watch a two hour animated Disney movie and take deep dive into their surprising mutual love of "West Side Story".  Stats! Plans! And much more! 

The Oscar nominations were announced on Tuesday and Kerry and Allison now have to get their plan in place.  In this episode they discuss the "Big Ten" best picture nominations, as well as the snubs and (very few) surprises of this year's nominees.  They discuss "Being the Ricardos, "Nightmare Alley" and "House of Gucci".... where Kerry laments the lack of nomination for Jared Leto.  They reveal their starting stats and discuss their plans for the upcoming week.  There are 44 days until the big ceremony!  Here we go!!

It's that time of year again! Oscar Season is finally here and Kerry and Allison are busy prepping.  In this episode, they give a bit of Oscar Hustle history, discuss the non-existent Golden Globes ceremony, review the short lists, and reminisce / speculate about who will host the ceremony on March 27th. The nominations just around the corner so it's time to start the Oscar Hustle! 

The Oscar broadcast has come and gone, and in a year of strange times, it makes sense that the ceremony was equally as bizarre.  Who makes a 3 hour telecast about film, without actually showing any films?!  In this final episode of season two, Kerry and Allison give their final stats, go into the whole uneven ceremony, the big mistakes made by the show's producers and celebrate the few highlights (shout out the cheerleader Reese Witherspoon) that made the night.  They discuss the (surprisingly superior) pre-show and musical performances, as well as address the elephant in the room...  Cue the sad trombones, it was quite a night!   

The finish line is in sight and what better way to re-cap the whole list of 56, then with a special guest.  This week Allison and Kerry are joined by "friend of the pod and in real life too" Kristy!  They discuss highlights and lowlights of this year's nominated films.  They make a few predictions of what they think will win versus what they think should win, as well as give some final thoughts on the noms.  Do kids actually like the movie "Soul"? As we get to the final weeks of the hustle, the inevitable fatigue sets in.  This week Kerry and Allison chat about how they are going to manage getting through the last few weeks of film screenings and give tips on how to avoid film fatigue.  Kerry recaps the SAG awards and Allison reports on research for the best way to host a safe Oscar Party this year.  They provide an update on the hard to find titles, which has Kerry wondering, should she reach out to Mark Ruffalo for help?  All of this and a discussion on one of the most important Live Action Short nominations in recent history.  The Oscars are coming up and the final push is ON!

Sometimes bad movies (like... really bad movies) get Academy Award nominations, and sometimes they even win.  This week Kerry and Allison re-visit some of those past stinkers as well as discuss some surprising winners.  Kerry provides an update on the plans for the ceremony broadcast (backpedaling anyone?) and Allison will not give up the hurt she still feels about songs that were left out of the original song category.  They discuss their admiration for two different films nominated in the Best Animated features category and re-cap what they've watched over the past week.  Plus, they boost the signal for the hard to find titles on the list.  

Once again the Oscar producers have come up with a wacky plan for the broadcast and it's not great.  This week Allison and Kerry talk a bit about what is planned for the ceremony and if given the circumstances, having it all live makes sense.  They look at some recent guild award winners, and discuss how knowing those winners may help you in your Oscar pool.  As usual they review their stats, highlight some of this week's favourites (shout out to "The Mole Agent" and "The Father") and what they weren't thrilled to watch.  Has Kerry made a dent in her list?  Did Allison watch "The Sound of Metal"?
