Encore: Parental Resistance in Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders
Ruchama Clapman founded MASK 19 years ago in response to the problems of substance abuse and mental health as she and others experienced them in the Brooklyn, NY Jewish community. She and her staff work tirelessly to make sure families in crises are directed to appropriate help and support. MASK assists with a wide variety of mental health and substance abuse and family service issues. It has helped over 16,000 families and has reached 24,000 community awareness programs both within the Jewish communities and beyond. MASK as an organization , and Ruchama herself, have received numerous achievement awards for their efforts. As a now multi-service state and city agency, it is listed under the Office of Mental Health and funded by the Department of Youth and Community Development.
