Time preference and society’s lack of self-control.
In this episode I discuss how society's time preference plays an insidious role in creating a pattern of short-term thinking that leads to debt, obesity, and the fallacy that a pill can be a quick fix for any problem. Hosted by Dr. Kevin Pacheco, Twitter, Instagram, Booklist.

Your choice to be depressed and anxious: loss aversion and the courage to be disliked.
In this episode I discuss how repeated choices result in conditions such as depression and anxiety as learned strategies. I also discuss how we avoid change and make up excuses because it allows us to hold onto the idea that we could change. Lastly, I am proud to share our company's first project. Hosted by Dr. Kevin Pacheco, Twitter, Instagram, Booklist.

Shame vs. guilt - why you should take ownership.
Here's a dirty word and a little secret: shame is purposeful self-limitation and guilt is a good thing. In this episode I discuss why you should own it. Hosted by Dr. Kevin Pacheco, Twitter, Instagram, Booklist.

Your body fat percentage = your habits + the company you keep.
Want to know the cheapest way to estimate your body fat percentage? Look at the people you spend the most time with and then add or subtract one standard deviation based on whether you have good habits or bad habits. In this episode I unpack why this is true. Hosted by Dr. Kevin Pacheco, Twitter, Instagram, Booklist.

Being a masochist in medicine does not make you a hero.
In this episode I discuss how being sacrificial, sleep-deprived and overloaded in medicine just makes you dangerous. I also critique "thoughtless altruism" and introduce the often humbling alternative of effective altruism. Full Transparency: Which Hospital Would You Be a Patient?
In this short unplanned episode I compare two hospitals I recently worked at and admit which one I would rather be admitted to. How we make up emotions to manipulate others.
In this episode I introduce Season 2, "Don't Play the Victim" and we discuss emotions. Do they happen to us or do we choose to use them for our own purposes? People predicting doctor shortages are incredibly short-sighted and a conclusion to season one.
In this episode I discussed how ridiculous it is to anticipate a doctor shortage given we are well into the information age. Building off improvements in diagnostic technologies, combined with patient access via the internet and digital distribution is nearly free is then it becomes obvious to me that there will likely be a physician surplus. Then I recap and conclude the first season. Thank you for those who made it to the end: click here for the video. Hosted by Dr. Kevin Pacheco, Twitter, Instagram, Booklist.

We should welcome AI replacing us and waiting in a primary's office will soon be a joke.
In this episode I made an argument that we should embrace AI as a way to fend off burn out in the future. I discussed how we should welcome the toilet that diagnoses our business. Let the reign of the throne begin and let’s be honest that waiting in your primary care doctor’s office for a refill or referral will become something to laugh about in the not so distant future. Hosted by Dr. Kevin Pacheco, Twitter, Instagram, Booklist.

How insurance and non-profit hospitals drive up the cost of medical care.
In this episode I discuss how the non-profit hospitals and insurance companies are both incentivized to drive up the cost of a patient’s medical care. Hosted by Dr. Kevin Pacheco, Twitter, Instagram, Booklist.

We’re responsible for our own burnout and depression - don’t be a victim.
In this episode  I likely made a lot of doctors angry by pointing out that they may be more responsible for the insane charting requirements and arbitrary metrics than they realize. I even took it one step further to say that we should be taking responsibility for our own burnout and depression and stop acting like victims. Hosted by Dr. Kevin Pacheco, Twitter, Instagram, Booklist.

Most "medical" conditions are societal problems the medical system monetized.
In this episode I discuss how the actual causes of the top chronic medical conditions are societal problems and how the medical system operates by monetizing these conditions and then pretends they represent a cost rather than an addressable market. Hosted by Dr. Kevin Pacheco, Twitter, Instagram, Booklist.
7 minutes | May 19, 2020
Patients don’t even care about patient outcomes.
In this episode I discuss how most of the time patients could care less about patient outcomes and what they really seek medical attention for is the actual attention. Oddly, spending more money on care often doesn’t make a difference clinically and patients are essentially paying for the experience of someone caring about them. Hosted by Dr. Kevin Pacheco, Twitter, Instagram, Booklist.

The annual "well" visit is a waste of time for adults.
In this episode I discuss how the annual "well" visit is a waste of time for most adults and we talk specifically about prostate screening and how useless PSA screening is. We also called out how certain organizations like ZERO are wasting resources advocating for tests that likely harm rather than help patients. Hosted by Dr. Kevin Pacheco, Twitter, Instagram, Booklist.

An Introduction to One Honest Doctor
This year I opted out of the medical system and resigned from a position that paid hundreds dollars an hour in Los Angeles due to two words: cognitive dissonance. This episode is an introduction to the podcast and the internal conflict that led to that decision. Hosted by Dr. Kevin Pacheco, Twitter, Instagram, Booklist.
