Humility – Episode 38
On The Road To Perfection Episode 38: Humility This episode should be On the Highway to Perfection! KFC may be hard to find, but opportunities for practicing humility are always abundant. A virtue to struggle with daily, we must always remember that we are given virtues in varying degrees. The degree of humility which we can accomplish may be infinitesimally smaller than that of the Apostle John. But we can all achieve the level of humility God gives us if we only look for the moments in which to practice them. And I’ll give you a hint: all the time. I wish you good luck in accomplishing this very difficult task. (If you’ve already accomplished it; I want to meet you, I collect handshakes from humble people as a hobby, hoping it might rub off on me.) Talk the Walk with Kristofer & Beth & everybody else. Retreat- Episode37
On The Road To Perfection Episode 37: Retreat Have you ever been on a retreat? With someone, or alone? Do you know someone who could use a retreat (I do: Me). Have you enjoyed them? When we go on retreats, we should always come back better: physically, emotionally, psychologically, or spiritually, sometimes all four, or a couple of them. A retreat is always good for the soul! Self Control – Episode 36
On The Road To Perfection Episode 36: Self-Control I can’t blame Dad on failing Self-control in butterscotch pudding. Honestly, if he left some for me, I’d do the same. But how do we control ourselves? When we get angry, is it the vice of rage, or is it righteous? I certainly have difficulties with this one. Self-control is hard, and, as Mom put it: “The hardest thing to teach a child.” This is an easy fruit to overlook, mainly because it is a daunting task. Chastity – Episode 33
On The Road To Perfection Episode 33: Chastity Chastity… when we talk about this subject we often mumble into our chests something about “carnal knowledge” or the like when talking to small children. Or we flush a deep shade of red when someone of the opposite sex begins such a discussion, but in the end, we always cast it aside as an age old practice. However, with the hookup culture and the ever-vigilant Evil One, we need to understand this important fruit of the Spirit and Cardinal Virtue. NOTE: This topic is may be confusing for children, while Mom and Dad keep a gentle and “G-rated” approach, children may have more questions they need answered. Please be prepared to answer them truthfully to the point where you believe they can understand. Storks can only last for so long! SHOW NOTES: There are many organizations out there that help us stay chaste. Nick’s blog on romantic love, covenanteyes.com, fightthenewdrug.org, and chastity.com are great resources for staying chaste. Pope St. John Paul II’s Humanae Vitae is related to this subject, it is not long, and will help us better understand the sexual relationship between men and women if we read it. Also, visit pintswithaquinas.com to book Matt Fradd, a superb speaker who is fluent in the subject of chastity. St. Elzéar of Sabran and Bl. Delphine are the examples of a chaste couple Dad mentions. Peace – Episode 32
On The Road To Perfection Episode 32: Peace We are always dealing with strife and sometimes it can be difficult for us to see beyond the uncertain now, when we do we often see an uncertain future. However, like when Dad left the hostile work environment, he was able to experience peace. Peace from God is the only type of peace we can have, so as long as we put our faith in God and do our part for His plan, we will have this peace. The future may still seem a little rocky, but if we know we are doing our part, we will have peace. How will we know we have peace? Well, maybe it’s when we’re singing songs on the radio as we leave behind a huge chunk of our income! Talk the Walk with Kristofer & Beth & everybody else. Join the conversation. Modesty – Episode 31
On The Road To Perfection Episode 31: Modesty Modesty isn’t easy, even the people of Corinth struggled with it during St. Paul’s time. But we are all called to be modest, and the harder the task, the bigger the reward. This may be the hardest fruit to follow in secular society, filled with foul language and bikinis. But the need for modesty is ever-needed, and only those who are culpable can change the flow within our culture, even if it’s telling our kids why to throw away those too-tight shorts. -Andrew SHOW NOTES: If you don’t have a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, you can get one at smile.amazon.com Talk the Walk with Kristofer & Beth & everybody else. Kindness – Episode 25
On The Road To Perfection Episode 25: Kindness “Be excellent to each other!” So said Rufus to Bill and Ted, but is that really Kindness? And what’s the difference between Kindness and being nice…if any? We jump into the thick of it on a relatively low-traffic day while we meet some neighbors and share a Merry Christmas with a Mom and her two adorable kiddos. This is a great conversation for anyone to listen to when they have to explain to their kids why it may seem like the punishment is cruel, but it really is kindness in the long run… Talk the Walk with Kristofer & Beth & everybody else. Epiphany – Episode 24
On The Road To Perfection Episode 24: Epiphany Aha! We have an Epiphany: Were they Wise Men, Kings, or Magi? The answer is tantalizingly close and we figure it out, and really soon after we start walking! And what about those gifts? What the heck is Myrrh? And once again Kristofer has a song that is a parody of the Christmas Carol…but he does not sing all of it, since he learned it long before he was baptized… He and Beth give the lowdown on the dudes from the east, and also what it means in their lives and their family to have the gift of the magi, or kings, or wise men – no matter! The Holy Spirit has something for us in this wonderful celebration, and we are barely started on the Christmas season! Are your decorations still up? They should be… Merry Christmas! You can ask, but Kristofer won’t tell you the lyrics to the song. But you can tell us what traditions you have for Epiphany, or maybe you are already back at the usual grind after THE BIG DAY and need some help staying focused on that thing that brought these guys from a fire. Er, afar! Talk the Walk with Kristofer & Beth & everybody else. Join the conversation. Christmas – Episode 23
On The Road To Perfection Episode 23: Christmas It’s the MOST Wonderful Time of the Year! Merry Christmas! After Beth gets Kristofer a bit riled up with just about the only Christmas song he does not like, they get down to the solemn business of the Solemnity of the Nativity of The Lord, but not so solemnly as the solemnity implies. In fact, we just used the word “solemn” more times in the last sentence than we probably do during the entire walk. BUT… We give our perspective on Joseph’s perspective of THE BIG DAY (You don’t get that too often) and what Christmas is all about in our daily lives. Kristofer even sings a bit from an old Mel Brooks movie! Merry Christmas! Share your glad tidings of Joy, or what you miss about Christmas, and share your needs. We would love to gift you with our prayers and anything else we can provide! Talk the Walk with Kristofer & Beth & everybody else. Join the conversation. Patience – Episode 22
On The Road To Perfection Episode 22: Patience The virtue of Patience is hard to come by, though we get plenty of opportunity to practice it! In this episode, Beth and Kristofer – particularly Kristofer – discuss their challenges with Patience and what NOT to do if you really aren’t ready to grow in this virtue. In concert with the excruciating waiting during Advent for THE BIG DAY, we talk about helping each other and children with Patience, and even note some impatience on the road while we walk. Where are you on the road to patience? Got any tips for us? Please! Talk the Walk with Kristofer & Beth & everybody else. Join the conversation. On The Road To Perfection Episode 21: Joy If the Devil doesn’t like it he can sit on a tack! Ouch! Yeah, that’s the kind of Joy we are walking and talking about. How do you get it? Where does it come from? Isn’t it just happiness on steroids? We talk about our Joy and answer those questions, and we think we have some pretty good secular reasons to not be joyful. So come get Joy, Joy, Joy down in your heart, to stay! How’s your Joy factor? Who are you to think you have joy, or deserve it? Well, we’re convinced you do! St. Nicholas – Episode 20
On The Road To Perfection Episode 20: St. Nicholas St. Nicholas is one of the most real Saints we can all relate to, believe it or not. This third and fourth century priest and bishop has many legends and miracles attributed to him, and they all center around how good he was. In this walk, we talk about St. Nicholas and how we all have some of him in us – something which most of us prove, in spite of ourselves, around this time of year. So, Happy Advent, Happy New Year, and get your kringle on, because we are talking about Santa Claus – in more ways than one! And, yes – we answer THAT question. This episode is totally safe for kids! 😉 Tell us your Santa Claus memories and experiences, and what this Saint means to you and your journey to sainthood.
