Off the Board Audio Podcast Episode 50 with Tom Barton
Welcome back to Off the Board, the Calvin Ayre After Party’s sports and sports betting podcast. This week it was number 50 or as I like to say about 40 more than I thought we get to. We had back another friend of the show, Tom Barton from TomBartonSports.com. Tom is currently leading the Pro Football Weekly handicapping contest so it’s safe to say he was in a great mood as we talked a little bit about the MLB Playoffs and the top games in the NFL this weekend. Tom gave us his leans and a solid play for his Super Bowl futures, as there is still one unbeaten team that is still offering nice odds to win the Super Bowl. Please keep the emails coming. Please write the show at OffTheBoard@CalvinAyre.com, follow me on twitter @Mistabill, like our Facebook page and subscribe on iTunes where we have both a video and audio only version of the show. Off the Board Audio Podcast Episode 49 with Craig Trapp
Welcome back to Off the Board, CalvinAyre.com’s sports and sports betting podcast. This week we had another first timer on the podcast as Craig Trapp from CTSportspicks.com and PicksandParlay.net joined us on the show. Checkout the previous Episode 48 with Matt Foust. We talked a little about his college basketball career, degenerate college coaches, he gave us some tips for betting parlays and of course he gave us some free college football and NFL betting picks for this weekend. I’ve been asked to post my personal picks because last year some of you who watched the show made a killing by betting against me in the Beat the Cock challenge. I’m not going to post all of the plays but I’ll make picks for the NFL prime time games each week. So here we go so feel free to fade away. (Note lines listed are at time of writing) San Francisco at St. Louis – +3 San Francisco has looked awful the past couple of weeks. Player are bitching about the coach, Aldon Smith is gone for the season to deal with a substance problem and Colin Kapernick has no TDs and 4 picks in his last two games. On a short week and no time to fix their problems I think the Rams continue to be a thorn in the side of the 49ers. Pick – St. Louis Rams +3 New England at Atlanta – -2 In their first three games, the Patriots have faced two rookies and Josh Freeman. Save for a couple of bounces against the Jets and Bills, the Pats could be 1-2. For the Falcons losing two close games on the road to the Saints and a surprisingly strong Miami team is nothing to be ashamed of. The Patriots will look fallible here and the Falcons win by a touchdown. Pick – Atlanta Falcons -2 Miami at New Orleans – -6 Miami has looked very strong in their opening 3 games. With wins over the Browns, Colts and Falcons but those teams aren’t the New Orleans Saints. The Saints are still heating up on offense and their defense is looking solid albeit against Atlanta and two lackluster opponents. Still Miami isn’t going to dominate with their offense so the Saints defense should hold on and let the offense go to work. Pick – New Orleans Saints -6 Ok so if history proves true, fade my picks and you’re gonna make some money. Please keep the emails coming. Please write the show at OffTheBoard@CalvinAyre.com, follow me on twitter @Mistabill, like our Facebook page and subscribe on iTunes where we have both a video and audio only version of the show. Peter Loshak has done something I haven’t been able to do, he had a sit down video interview with the big boss, Calvin Ayre. It’s from a couple years ago but it’s a good interview. Check it out here. Off the Board Audio Podcast Episode 41 with Matt Foust
Welcome back to Off the Board, the Calvin Ayre After Party’s sports and sports betting podcast. Before I go any further, let me give fair warning that my regular cameraman was away sick and I needed to bring in a replacement. Let’s just say he needed a few more innings in the minors before being asked to pitch in the World Series. We had friend of the podcast, Matt Foust on the show to talk about UFC 163, neither of us are excited about this event, we both admitted we’ll buy it but if anyone doesn’t we understand. Checkout the previous Episode 40 with Roy “The Boy” Brindley here. NFL preseason is around the corner so we asked Matt some tips for betting on preseason football. After giving me a dirty look for actually thinking about betting on NFLx, he begrudgingly gave some tips but he suggested I wait for the regular season to begin. During the viewer mail segment, a viewer asked me about my Twitter account (@Mistabill) and he pointed out that I follow a lot of people. I follow close to 2000 people. He asked who were my favorites so as promised here in no particular order are 10 accounts I really enjoy following. Twitter Accounts @billburr – He’s a comedian and a hockey fan. He offers good jokes and sports commentary. @Johnny_Detroit – We’ve had Johnny on the show before. He’s great for funny tweets and insightful betting tips. @bruce_arthur – Bruce Arthur is a columnist of the National Post in Canada. I really enjoy his perspective on the world of sports @bomani_jones – He is the former host of the greatest sports morning show I’ve listened to, the Morning Jones. @AnonymousGamblr – Is a friend who’s a bookmaker and a gambler. Really knows his stuff. @MMAOdds – Joey Oddessa, the originator of the Oddessa line for Mix Martial Arts. He’s a great follow if you want some extra insight into the fighting world. @DeadSpin – I’m a big fan of DeadSpin.com, they take sports journalism places the big networks are afraid to go. @WallStrizzle1 – Will Strickland, Former Rice University Standout and broadcaster extraordinaire. He knows basketball. @LukeInVan – A long time friend who works a computer job but his tweets are far funnier than most comics. @CalvinAyre – The Boss, he’s usually posting links but when he types an original, it rarely misses the mark. Off the Board Audio Podcast Episode 40 with Roy “The Boy” Brindley
Welcome back to Off the Board, the Calvin Ayre After Party’s sports and sports betting podcast. This week on the podcast we had a first time guest but a long time player in the gambling industry. Roy “The Boy” Brindley is a former professional poker player and greyhound trainer who’s lived a very interesting life, so interesting in fact that he was given a book deal to document some of the trials and tribulations of his life as a professional gambler. Checkout the previous Episode 39 with Tom Barton here. Life’s a Gamble is available on Amazon – here. We talked about his life as one of the first sponsored professional poker players, his love of greyhounds and his distain for the dog racing industry. Roy is currently one of the best Formula 1 handicappers in the business and he was kind enough to give us a few tips for this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix. In closing, we chatted about his current lawsuit against bookmaker Ladbrokes which is still a developing story and could be huge as things move forward. It was a very interesting and education conversation with a man who’s been around the block. Please take time to follow Roy Brindley on Twitter @RoyTheBoyF1. Off the Board Audio Podcast Episode 39 with Tom Barton
Welcome back to Off the Board, the Calvin Ayre After Party’s sports and sports betting podcast. It was officially the slowest week on the sports betting schedule with Major League Baseball taking their mid-summer break for the Mid-Summer Classic. So during MLB’s breather we brought back good friend of the Off the Board podcast, Tom Barton from TomBartonSports.com. Checkout the previous Episode 38 with Jason Kirk here. Tom can always liven up a slow day on the sports betting schedule. He gave us his picks for the MLB’s first half MVP and CY Young winners. Then he broke down each division and what to expect in the second half of the MLB season. We touched a little on the Aaron Hernandez situation before we wrapped up. The Intern was her sexy, messy self but we’re all OK with that. I answered your questions about the MLB All-Star game and what I would do for 1000 retweets. Off the Board Audio Podcast Episode 38 with Jason Kirk
Welcome back to Off the Board, the Calvin Ayre After Party’s sports and sports betting podcast. This week we break with tradition by discussing poker and the World Series of Poker on the podcast. Checkout the previous Episode 37 with Nick Gray here. CalvnAyre.com poker columnist Jason Kirk is on the show to talk about all of the goings on at the World Series of Poker. We discuss the dominance of the Canadians at this year’s series; Jason points to the availability of online poker in Canada compared to the United States with the rise of the Canadian poker pro. Jason gives his opinions on Sheldon Adelson’s latest rant against online poker and whether a boycott of the Venetian will work to sway Adelson’s opinion. Before talking to Jason, I give you my quick break down of UFC 162 in Las Vegas. If you believe the hype, UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva faces his toughest challenge to date in Chris Weidman. I give you my pick for this fight and the rest of the fights on the pay-per-view card. The Intern is getting me coffee and she does it in a way only she can. Off the Board Audio Podcast Episode 37 with Nick Gray
Welcome back to Off the Board, the Calvin Ayre After Party’s sports and sports betting podcast. It was a Gray kind of day as we welcomed Bosports’s Nick Gray into the studio. It marks only the second time we’ve had a live in studio guest. Checkout the previous Episode 36 with Matt Foust here. Nick was in Manila doing some work so we brought him in to talk about Phil Michelson’s 6th runner-up finish at Golf’s US Open. We took a few moments to preview Wimbledon and talk about the effect new Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho would have on his new club. We still hadn’t come down from the epic game 6 of the NBA finals between the Heat and the Spurs so we showed a couple of key plays in the YouTubes of the week. The Intern was being her usual sexy self, this time she was doing a little cleaning in the kitchen. It’s hot, very, very hot. Off the Board Audio Podcast Episode 35 with Paul Fox
Welcome back to Off the Board, the Calvin Ayre After Party’s sports and sports betting podcast. A few episodes ago we had the head of bookmaking for Bodog Asia Paul Fox on the show but due to some technical difficulties Paul’s audio wasn’t clear and his answers couldn’t be heard through the podcast. Paul’s a sharp guy and had some interesting things to say so we wanted to bring him back for another go around. As Paul is located in Manila, I decided to have Paul come to the Off the Board studio so we could sit and chat live. It’s the first time we had someone in the studio live and we hope you enjoy it. Checkout the previous Episode 34 with Nick Gray here. Paul talked about the differences and similarities between European and Asian punters and talked about why basketball is so popular in China. We touched on live betting and match fixing. The intern is back to work, if you can call it work but I say it’s pretty enjoyable regardless. Welcome back to Off the Board, the Calvin Ayre After Party’s sports and sports betting podcast. This week we welcomed back Nick Gray from BoSports.net. Checkout the previous Episode 33 with Tom Barton here. Nick explained Rafael Nadal’s domination at the French Open and why it’s pretty much guaranteed money when you bet Rafa at the French Open. We talked about why this might be Serena Williams’s best chance at a second French Open title and first since 2002. Nick gave us an English Premier silly-season update discussing all of the managerial moves and which teams will and which teams won’t benefit from the changes. We close the interview with a wee chat about golf where Nick was kind enough to give us a few picks for the Memorial this weekend and the US Open in two weeks time. All the picks are longer shots but well worth putting a 10 spot on them. I give you my thoughts on the fantastic NHL playoffs and we look at some of the best post game interviews of the past week. The intern is back and sexy as ever, enjoy. Off the Board Audio Podcast Episode 33 with Tom Barton
Welcome back to Off the Board, the Calvin Ayre After Party’s sports and sports betting podcast. This week we welcomed back longtime friend of the podcast Tom Barton from TomBartonSports.com. Checkout the previous Episode 32 with Trixie Hammer here. With Baseball season in full swing, Tom talks about why I was a fool for believing the Blue Jays hype and the chances of Don Mattingly making it to the end of the season as the LA Dodgers manager. Tom shares a few secrets for betting and winning on baseball before telling us his predictions for the NBA conference finals and the NBA Finals. I’ll give you a hint, he picked the Heat at the start of the year and he’s not backing away from that selection. I took a few moments to give you my quick predictions for UFC 160. I like to bet on the underdogs but UFC 160 featuring Cain Velasquez and Antonio Silva in the main event left me with few dogs to choose. The Intern is on a little break but we show you an old clip, which is still pretty, pretty good. I answer questions about the Intern and where my bottle of whiskey went in viewer mail. Speaking of viewer mail, if you want to write the show, email us at OffTheBoard@CalvinAyre.com, follow me on twitter @Mistabill, like our Facebook page and subscribe on iTunes to take the show wherever you go. Off the Board Audio Podcast Episode 32 with Trixie Hammer
Welcome back to Off the Board, the Calvin Ayre After Party’s sports and sports betting podcast. This week we welcomed back Trixie Hammer from Ladyandthetrack.com to talk about the Preakness Stakes. Checkout the previous Episode 31 with Paul Fox here. In what was our fastest turnaround time for a guest, Trixie Hammer was back to help us preview the Preakness Stakes. If you remember two weeks ago, she was on the show to talk about the Kentucky Derby. She picked Orb to win and true to form Orb come from behind to win the Run for the Roses. This week we talked about Orb’s chances to win the second jewel of horse racing’s Triple Crown. Despite drawing the rail, Trixie feels pretty good about Orb’s chances to win the Preakness. With Orb currently the even money favorite to win the race, Trixie gave us a few other longer shot horses that could or should be in the money when the race is over. In the mailbag I talk about Andrew Wiggins and the technical difficulties we had with a previous podcast. The Intern took the week off this week so we compiled a “best of” video montage of our sexy helper. Please write the show, OffTheBoard@CalvinAyre.com, follow me on twitter @Mistabill, like our Facebook page and subscribe on iTunes to take the show wherever you go. Thanks for watching, Bill Beatty
