Laida’s getting married THREE times next week. Calm down, it’s to the same guy. There’s three ceremonies, because they wanted to celebrate her family’s and her husband’s culture of Chinese, Thai and the good old USA. And as we all know, nothing says “wedding” like food, so Brett and Lalida talk about what a Chinese, Thai, and Armenian weddings, look, taste and smell like, it’s an eye opener, so tune in!

We’re back from the holiday break. This week we branch out from Orange County and bring you our food adventures from So-Cal. Our food travels bring us to Glendale for Armenian food at Adana, Mexican food at Taco Nazo in Long Beach and Polish food from Solidarity in Santa Monica. 

Every time we go to a potluck, we get this voice in our head. The voice has an uncanny resemblance to Jerry Seinfeld. The voice says as you can guess “What’s the deal with potlucks? There’s no pots, and there’s no luck”.  We’ll Jerry, there’s more to a potluck than you may think. This week we get into its history, etiquette and the foods. Pull up a seat and dig in!

Previously recorded in October. It’s Halloween and trick-or-treat has come and gone. It got us thinking about, “where the stuff came from”. Lucky we have a Brett and he’s done some research and found about the ins and out of the sweet stuff and gives us a great tell all. Afterwards, we return to “Mean Tweets” where we find the best, worst reviews of the best restaurants in Orange County.  

Hey all, the holidays wiped us out and we weren’t able to record during the break. Never fear though, we have an episode that we recorded previously in October that we didn’t have an opportunity to release.  So without further ado, we present the Pumpkin episode!

Food truck culture questionably was started here in Southern California. Its where high cuisine meets blue collar food. This week Brett gives us the “dirty” on food trucks history in SoCal, and then we jump into our favorite eats on wheels.  If you’re a fan of genre, this week’s podcast is for you. 

Buffets, the meal for when you don’t know where to go and you’re hungry. In this weeks podcast, find out our favorite places to go in Orange County, Ca, our favorite buffet food hacks and how Brett stole a few dollars of food accidentally (on purpose?). We mix things up a little this week. First of all, our producer Zen steps in for Amie to discuss America’s sweetheart protein, “Chicken”. Brett then tells us how a beer can chicken wrecked his car, our favorite types of chicken, light meat vs. dark meat and buffalo wings. Later we learn the origin of Chicken Schnitzel. Chicken, it’s what for dinner!

The old Chevy commercial may say that “Hot Dogs” are the perennial American food, but we disagree. We know it’s the hamburger. And to mix things up further, while most of us believe the hamburger originated from Germany, Brett finds some information that states its origins are much older. Afterwards, we offer up our favorite places to get a burger in Orange County. Do our choices match yours? Tune in and find out!

What do you do on Thanksgiving? Show up? Host? Go to Vegas? We’re just a few days away from turkey apocalypse and we compare our very different family traditions. Afterwards we have a history lesson about how Thanksgiving actually came about (none of this pilgrim nonsense), reveal our Thanksgiving cooking secrets, and the backstory to the Presidential Turkey Pardon, which is totally a real thing!

How early is too early to celebrate a season? This week we discuss fall pumpkin-spiced food (and toiletries?!?!) that seem to be launched earlier and earlier in the year.  Afterwards we discuss whether a steak restaurant should be expected to deliver a vegan meal selections. Ready? Set? Debate!  

Today we discuss: what is healthy food? What we once considered a healthy diet a few years ago would get you laughed out of a health food store today. Will our current health food trends be the joke fodder of our children? Our conversation then turns to “The Royce’s” swimming pool in Irvine (sorry we got side-tracked), American Ale, Bella Cuba in Santa Ana, Omomo in Irvine, The Vox kitchen, Puesto in Irvine, and the history of El Pastor tacos. As always we end with “Mean Yelps”.
