073 Modern Mimes
I sit down with one-half of Modern Mimes Notes: Modern Mimes is an American music artist duo from Fort Lauderdale, FL. The duo consists of Adi Elcida Hernandez on vocals/guitar/sampling and Ernesto Paez on the double neck guitar bass. Their music can be best described as "Future Goth," a term they coined in order to explain the fusion of alternative heavy guitar riffs, powerfully haunting vocals, subconscious provoking lyrics, electronic drums, and catchy pop melodies.  After almost 3 years of quietly creating and crafting their sound, Modern Mimes released their debut album "Wake Up" in early 2017. Their single "Love Hate," premiered on Blank TV and their video, directed by Carla Forte, was selected at various film festivals. They followed up their debut album with a cover of Type O Negative's "I don't Wanna Be Me." The Goth Metal Legends not only approved of the cover but quickly promoted the single and video before it's release. " I Don't Wanna Be Me" has resulted in a successful 30k+ views on Youtube and was featured on Loudwire.com amongst other media outlets.  The duo has performed 2 years in a row at Riptide Music Festival, the biggest two day Alternative and Classic Hits music festival in Fort Lauderdale and WJJR's Earthday Birthday music fest. They also toured the Southeastern United States, SXSW, and have a session on Balcony TV.   Modern Mimes is a perfectly chaotic reflection of the inner workings of Adi & Ernesto who create music in hopes of inspiring listeners to journey through their subconscious and look within. Their sophomore album "The Gray" was produced by Rick Lander (Flaw & Dead Horse Trauma) and Anthony Santonocito ( John Hampson(Nine Days) & Brianna Taylor) and is available now on most digital platforms.   Recommended Show: 070 Modern Sons   Musician Links: Website   Sponsor: AnarchoCoffee Victory Voice Overs Warman Guitars   Contact: Rocky Ferrenburg Email   Support: Support the show directly at Patreon. 070 Modern Sons
I sit down with Ryan from Modern Sons Notes: Rooted in garage rock the four piece brings a ubiquitously sonic ambience with crunchy guitars and sophisticated bass lines. Organic structures are not based in a particular style of music, but rooted in the expression of experience and the song itself. The Modern Sons effectively and skillfully uses textural changes of dynamic to step into another sub genre of rock they coin as psychedelic post-punk. 069 The Radioactive Chicken Heads
I sit down with Carrot Topp from Radioactive Chicken Heads Notes: Not your average band of poultry punks fronted by a giant mutant vegetable, the Radioactive Chicken Heads are rapidly spreading their genetically modified rock 'n' roll across the planet...Beware, if you are reading this, you may have already been contaminated.  This motley group of mutants first emerged from the laboratory of Dr. Baron Von Kluckinstein, a product of the infamous mad scientist's experiments to create super-sized frankenfoods.  Tired of being cooped up in the dreary lab all day, the Radioactive Chicken Heads escaped to freedom and have since dedicated their lives to rockin' out.  Since making their national television debut on the Tyra Banks show in 2006, the Radioactive Chicken Heads toured the US, Canada, Mexico and Peru, released 4 full length albums, filmed numerous music videos, and produced their own video game.  In October 2017 the Chicken Heads premiered a new album, "Tales From the Coop," as well as a 3 part television pilot.  By exposing the masses to their musical mayhem, the band hopes to bridge the gap between all humans, chickens, and vegetables on earth and beyond... 068 Sloppy Joe's
I sit down with Jesse from Sloppy Joe's Notes: Sloppy Joe's is a heavy rock band from Hamburg, Germany. Inspired by true legends such as KISS, Volbeat, Black Sabbath or AC/DC the three rockaholics unleash their own unique style of musical impact. Jesse Garon, Johnny Angel and Pätzy Dävey are providing blistering guitarriffs, cutting ass bass and heavy drums. That’s how the band imposingly shows what rock’n’roll is about. It’s out there, right here, just in front of you – so take the powerful rock-infusion of Sloppy Joe's. Since the release of their first EP in 2013 the band has performed more than 100 concerts in Europe (club gigs, festival shows, open-airs) and the fanbase is still growing. The new album DEVIL’S MUSIC (2019) has been highly rated by the international music press. 067 Nic Earley
I sit down with Nic Earley Notes: Nic Earley is an artist that is embarking on a journey to help us feel and understand music the way he does. He has something new to offer the music world, coupled with an old flavor he has gained over his lifetime. While some may describe themselves as having an ‘old school’ sound, Earley truly allows this sound to become a part of his brand and the essence of his style. Originally from Covina, CA and now residing in Harlem, Earley has been exposed to music since he came home from the hospital in 1995. As a child born in the 90s, there is a multitude of obvious influences on him, yet his sound remains present in what is going on in this day and age. His sound is the perfect intersection between someone who is reverent of how his upbringing has shaped his musical ear and perspective, but someone who still enjoys a great 808 and pop synth. The multi-instrumentalist started piano at the age of four and has performed on a variety of stages including radio appearances, theater stages, and jazz festivals. His music is fervently driven upon elements of jazz, soul, and R&B. He is someone that you will hear a lot of live instrumentation, vocal stacked harmonies, and jazzy, soul-influenced melodies. 064 The Bryant C. Project
I sit down with Bryant from The Bryant C. Project Notes: The Bryant C. Project consists of Bryant Carter on guitar, vocals and songwriting. Bryant’s unique style is a product of his environment, so diverse yet so familiar with the infusion of Rock, Soul and R&B. Some have tag his style simply as Rock n’ Soul. 063 Wicked Peace
I sit down with Tanner and Amanda from Wicked Peace Notes: Breathe in, breathe out, and let the enlightening pop-rock mantras from Wicked Peace be your guide. These Lexington, KY oddballs pair transcendental instrumentals with hook-heavy, soul-bearing lyricism for a singular sound that doesn’t just flow, it levitates right off the stage. Zig-zagging between power pop and Americana, detouring anywhere a song takes them along the way, Wicked Peace blends its members’ disparate influences and southern background into a soulful sonic smoothie designed to help you find your zen.   In 2013, frontman Tanner Blevins and guitarist Patrick Brumback shared a Morehead State dorm room hallway and musical dreams. With Tanner’s older sister/songwriter Amanda on board, the band quickly self-released 2014’s charmingly-DIY debut Conclusions, featuring personal, scornful laments of love lost, softened only by the abundant loose acousti-pop at play that would become their template moving forward. They followed this form with 2015’s self-effacingly titled Growing Pain.   The band then traveled down to Music City to cut the fullest realization of their musical visions yet: The Edge EP, recorded at Blackbird Studio. After a series of back-to-back singles featuring an evolved sound and lyricism recorded with Lexington’s own Duane Lundy at Shangri-La Studio—“All of Me,” “Halfway,” “New Addiction,” and “Tubesox”—the band took a step back to focus on their live show. With the addition of a powerhouse rhythm section in Matt Holleran (drums) and Jared “Hippie” Davis (bass), they also took a deep dive into production work, building their own Butchwood Studios in the process. With a wealth of self-produced material and a fresh, muscular band to perform it, Wicked Peace has entered their most productive period to date, with new songs, videos, and shows coming at a nonstop clip—including 3 EPs (THE PORTLAND EP, THE EVENING EP, THE HIGH ROAD EP) and two singles (“(Take Off My) T-Shirt” and "Ur Welcome")—culminating in their debut full length album, 2019's Rock N Roll Racecar.  Musician Links: Website   Sponsor: AnarchoCoffee Victory Voice Overs Warman Guitars   Contact: Rocky Ferrenburg Email   Support: Support the show directly at Patreon. Indigo Storm released their debut LP “Deep” in September 2018. The same month, they opened for Grammy nominated artists Nothing More and platinum artists Bad Wolves in Lexington, Kentucky. 061 The Gypsy Store Troubadours
I sit down with Clayton from The Gypsy Store Troubadours Notes: A four-piece serving up raw, guitar-driven Country and Americana Rock from a tiny town in Oklahoma, Gypsy Store Troubadours is a band that thrives on contradictions. Their music often combines opposing elements, bringing the sweet and the dangerous together seamlessly, a talent best summarized by a lyric from their soon-to-be-released debut single “Local Honey”: smooth as lightning. Part wild and unapologetic rock-and-rollers, part devoted family men committed to their home town and loved ones, the members of Gypsy Store Troubadours tend to toe the line between their enigmatic public personas and the in-your-face openness of their songs. Drawing from a broad mix of influences and genres, from Tom Petty’s laid-back Americana style to Waylon Jennings’ classic outlaw country to the Allman Brothers’ brand of gritty, Southern soul, Gypsy Store Troubadours’ official debut album is set to be released July 26, 2019. The album is a descriptive masterpiece of gruff, pensive Country and Americana songs that showcase the band’s ability to deliver striking melodies, no-bullshit lyrics, and music that speaks to diverse array of moods. While the band tends to avoid the spotlight of interviews and excessive public appearance, their songs have a tendency to lay it all out there as frankly and vulnerably as possible. Their deft handling of life’s contradictions is evident in the straightforward yet lighthearted delivery of songs like “PBR,” a loping, drink-and-drug anthem that presents a fun, country-style version of Joan Jett’s “I don’t give a damn about my bad reputation” sentiment: I could have been a big dick / and acted like a lunatic / and pissed off everyone / but I’ve learned better / so I wrote you a letter / to tell you that I’m happy you’re gone. It’s the sort of logic of dreams, where statements of fact are both direct and also subject to the ebb and flow of mood, which makes these songs feel as real and as volatile as human temperament.   The four musicians all hail from small, rural Oklahoma communities with a combined population of about 550 people. “The biggest of these towns sits smack dab on historic Route 66, as it begins its westward stretch towards Los Angeles. If you could see pictures of where we’re from, you’d ask “Where the hell does this sound come from?” Their unique, genre-defying sound is in part due to McKinzie’s creative songwriting process: He often conceives of a song in his sleep, rushing to his home studio upon waking at any hour to record a new storyline or melody. “I just— I happen upon a song. It’s generated in my head, and I wake up and go to town on it.” Another subconscious influence on their music is the band’s convergent geographic location: “Where we’re based is pretty much where the South meets the Midwest meets the Southern Great Plains meets the West and deserts of the Southwest. This has given us exposure to all different kinds of influences that we’ve used to form our style and sound.”   Members of Gypsy Store Troubadours have been playing together for over a decade, developing their chemistry and fine-tuning their performance styles as their music evolved. Bassist Kevin Lawrence and lead singer-songwriter Clayton McKinzie grew up together, playing shows for years before putting out a demo in the hopes of drawing new players through the music itself, which is how guitarist Billings and drummer Hollis entered the mix. For their debut album, the group sought out Grammy-winning drummer David Teegarden Sr. to record at his studio in Tulsa. They also recruited Danny Timms, long-time keyboardist for Kris Kristofferson and Bonnie Raitt. With moments reminiscent of alternative-rock favorites Crooked Fingers (check out the deep, drowsy vocals in “Sober” and “Rebels in Bloom”) and the cool, bluesy-rock ambiance of Dire Straits (see songs “Local Honey” and “Sober”) blended into the classic country and Americana sensibility the band is known for, the new record proves that Gypsy Store Troubadours can straddle multiple genres and musical traditions with a lighthearted ease and a depth of understanding far beyond the expected.      Musician Links: Website   Sponsor: AnarchoCoffee Victory Voice Overs Warman Guitars   Contact: Rocky Ferrenburg Email   Support: Support the show directly at Patreon. 060 Tonic Zephyr
I sit down with Madi, JT and Andy from Tonic Zephyr Notes: From the foothills of NorCal, a good old fashioned Psychedelic Rock band practices from a dimly lit garage, equipped with lava lamps and painted mannequin heads. A modern mashup of Gwen Stefani’s rebellious energy and Janis Joplin’s soul, front woman Madi Gold boogies about the smoky room, custom DNA electric axe in tow, wailing esoteric lines into the void. The bone shaking wall of sound that booms from the amp stacks of bassist Reilly Olsen melts perfectly into JT Loux’s progressive and melodic riffing. Now, the walls begin to shake, glass topples from the shelves. Their practice space, lovingly named the ‘Zephyr Den’, prepares for lift off, leading listeners on a journey through the stratosphere as they wade into the cosmic soup. Madi Gold and lead Guitarist JT Loux formed the band in early 2016, releasing their first album as Tonic Zephyr in 2017. Inundated with the youthful angst of the next generation of Psychedelic Rock and Roll, Reilly Olsen and Andy Nathan drive the rhythm through the roof. This Cali grown 4-piece has shared the stage with Frank Hannon and Jeff Keith of Tesla, Twanna Turner, Keith St. John, Pat Martin’s Allstar Band, Buddy Guy’s Band, Pat Travers, Trapt, and the award winning Greg Golden Band. The band’s reputation for energizing and mystifying their audience has led them to stages such as the Ace of Spades, Opera House Saloon, Harlow’s, Holy Diver, and The Boardwalk.
