A Warning Against Drifting
Why do people who once faithfully served the Lord, turn away from Jesus? In John 3, we learn that it’s an issue of the heart. People love the darkness because their hearts are evil, not because there is no light. In this episode, Brody walks through 6 dangers and temptations that lead to apostasy. Let’s be aware of what causes the drift and fight against it. Let’s fix our eyes on Jesus and pursue Him.  Resources: John 3 Matthew 24:10-14 2 Peter 2:1-3 1 John 2:15-17 2 Timothy 4:10 Colossians 4:14 2 Peter 2 1 Timothy 1:18-20 Hebrews 3:12-14 Galatians 5:16-26 Ephesians 4:1-16 1 John 2:19 Last year's episode: A Warning to Those Who Profess Christ | Don't Drift  Staff Worship: Hebrews 1-2 P.S. Growing In The Knowledge of God's Word
It’s not always easy to be faithful to the Lord. There are forces and things pushing against our desires for Him. We have to put in effort and fight the enemy attacking our minds.  Today's episode is from our Respond Women's Conference, where Brooke Lovingood walks through Mark 4, and shares how it remind us to be aware of the soil of our souls. Let’s grow in our knowledge of God's word by letting it be planted in rich deep soil. Let's be so aware that when a thought enters your mind that goes against God's word, you are able to say that it's not from Him. Resources: Mark 4 Respond Women's Conference P.S. A Conversation About Women in Ministry
Today Brody sits down with Brooke Lovingood, a former Snowbird staff member who now works in the youth ministry at FBC of Watkinsville. Brody and Brooke discussed what the Bible says about the roles of women in marriage and ministry. God has laid out certain roles for a man and a woman, and these roles that are equal but different. Christianity is the most dignifying religion when it comes to women. The world tells us that a woman’s role is contrary to what Scripture says, but Jesus gives women a platform to minister and to serve within His design. Let’s strive to be counter-cultural to the world and align our minds with the Bible.  Listen to Brooke’s session from Respond 2022 – Growing in the Knowledge of God's Word Genesis 1:26-31 Genesis 2:15 Ephesians 5:25 P.S. Active Faith is Enduring Faith
Christians are not created for inactivity. We’re called to be a people of action, driven by faith. As Brody wraps up the life of Saul in 1 Samuel 14 with the Snowbird summer staff. The focus of the Old Testament turns to Saul’s son, Jonathan. Jonathan shows us what active faith looks like, while Saul showed us what inactive religion is.  The testing of our faith will produce endurance. You’ve got to look a little bit crazy when you live by faith—it won’t make sense to the world. We are the remnant in a dark and dying generation. So let’s live out our faith and pursue the Lord well. The Slide of Saul
Anxieties and struggles should teach us to depend on the Lord more, not turn away from Him.  As Brody continues to look at Saul’s life with our Snowbird summer staff, he walks through 1 Samuel 13. This is when Saul begins his slide away from the Lord. Every drift starts somewhere, but it will stop at the moment of repentance. Sadly, Saul’s faith eventually weakens through his disobedience. Christians aren’t called to inactivity. Let’s labor in the work of the Lord, pursue personal holiness, and invest in other people.  Resources: 1 Samuel 13 P.S. The Rise of Saul
We can not hang our hope on earthly movements and figureheads.  Believers, we need to fix our eyes on Jesus and labor for what won’t perish. In 1 Samuel 12, the Israelites asked for a king so they could be like the other nations. But, God gave them a kingship that answered to Him. If you walk in Christ, then you’re called to be different from the world. Today’s episode is a session from Snowbird’s summer staff training. Brody encouraged our summer staff to remain faithful to the Lord in the middle of our current culture. The Israelites wanted to trust in a new form of government, rather than trusting in the promises of Yahweh.  Christian, you are under the covenant care and love of God. He is unchanging in His faithfulness to you, so walk with Jesus.  Resources: 1 Samuel 12  2 Timothy 2:13 Romans 3:4 Hebrews 10:23 1 John 1:9 P.S. A Conversation on Missions Abroad & at Home pt. 2
The local church is God’s plan for advancing the Gospel.  What are you doing now to reach the people in your community? Continuing the conversation on missions abroad and at home, Brody and John Baxter discuss how we can be a resource and share the Gospel with those in our communities.  Believers, let’s live out the Gospel. We need to fight against the dangers of the consumer, or spectator, mentality in our churches. Let’s be people of action who care for the souls and lives around us.  Resources: Baxter53@gmail.com Converge Ministries P.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! A Conversation on Missions Abroad & at Home pt. 1
Believers, we should never lose site of the responsibility we have to take the Gospel to every nation.  John Baxter is a career missionary and church planter who serves with Converge, a missions organization that focuses on strengthening churches and sending missionaries overseas. Today Brody and John discuss how foreign missions has changed over the years, and how we should approach missions looking forward from here. No Sanity Stories | From Deconstruction to Restoration
Don’t be afraid of doubt. Doubt is evidence of faith in the heart of a Christian.Brody sat down with Brittany Staples, a former Snowbird staff member, who shares her testimony of walking away from the faith and how the Lord brings her back to Him. Brittany wrestled with distrust in the Lord which led to a season of doubt.  During this season, Christian friends continued to speak Scripture into her life. Believers, let’s love people enough to speak the Truth and be consistent in others’ lives. Listen to the beauty of the Lord’s faithfulness throughout her story.  Resources: Hebrews 6 P.S. Reflections on the Fall of Mars Hill pt.2
After the recent podcasts on the fall of Mars Hill came out, how are we to prevent the same thing from happening in our own churches? Continuing his conversation with pastor Jordan Bird, a former Acts 29 church intern, Brody and Jordan discuss how we’re to grow our ministries in a way that honors the Lord and keeps them from falling. Let’s be repentant people who lean into Christ and focus our ministries on the Lord, not ourselves. P.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! Reflections on the Fall of Mars Hill pt.1
Brody recently sat down with Jordan Bird, a former intern with an Acts 29 church, to reflect on the ministry at Mars Hill.  They also discuss the recent podcasts that have been published on it. Jordan was a young and inspiring pastor who was impacted by Mark Driscoll and his ministry. Listen to hear Brody and Jordan discuss what Mark did right and wrong, and what we can learn from his fall from ministry. Let’s learn from Jordan’s perspective on this story and become better representatives of Christ to those around us.  P.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! Beyond the Flannelgraph | Abigail as a Type of Christ
Abigail is an example of Christ.  In 1 Samuel 25, she confronted David and 400 of his men to spare the lives of the men in her town. In this episode, Brody walks through what we can learn from her act of bravery and how she points us to the Lord. Abigail approaches David in humility and boldness as she asks to let all the guilt of her husband fall onto her.  She displays deep faith that mirrors Christ to us. What can we learn from her boldness? We need to be a people of faith and action. Abigail’s faith was not passive. Everything she did was aggressive but driven by humility. She was faithful right where she was serving. She shows us what humility looks like.  Let’s learn from her example. Let’s be people of action, bravery, and humility.  Resources: 1 Samuel 25 2 Samuel 7 P.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! Solitude & Boredom in the Life of a Believer
We are always giving our attention to something.  But, what if the Lord is speaking to us and we’re not paying attention? We need to be disciplined about taking time in our lives to pause. The culture around us presses us toward non-stop busyness, so Brody and Jon discussed the importance of solitude and boredom in the life of a believer.  It takes discipline to walk close to the Lord. Let’s be more diligent to just sit with Jesus. Resources: Matthew 11 The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer P.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! A Conversation on How the Gospel Transcends Culture pt. 3
Culture today wants to control what you believe.  There is continual pressure to stop walking with Jesus and to start following the world. We’re asked to believe the narrative society is writing, or be labeled as hateful. But the Word of God is sufficient and authoritative. Scripture gives a clear definition of sexuality and marriage. We’re to love people well by speaking the Truth unapologetically. Brody and Jon Rouleau wrapped up their conversation on progressive Christianity by discussing the current narrative of culture—and how the Gospel transcends it. We cannot ignore the reality that culture is trying to shape what we believe.  So, how are we to live as Christians?  Just walk with Christ. The message is about Him. Turn to Christ, and walk with Him. When you follow Jesus, you are loving humanity.  Resources: 1 John 1:9  1 John 3:20 P.S. If you liked this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback! A Conversation on Faith & Deconstruction pt. 2
What is driving Christians to fall away from the faith? Today we’re seeing believers either abandoning the Christian faith or redefining the parameters of it. Something is always driving this. The problem is idolatry. We’re either exalting ourselves or items to a position that only God can hold. There is always an action or change of lifestyle that comes with deconstruction.  Continuing the conversation with Jon Rouleau, a friend of Snowbird’s, Brody and Jon discuss what deconstruction is, why people walk away from the faith, and how we’re to remain faithful in this culture.  Some people who have walked away were already looking for an excuse to deny the faith. We can be faithful witnesses, not just in preaching Scripture, but in living for Jesus. Hold fast to what you believe and stay faithful in this fallen world. A Conversation on Progressive Christianity pt. 1
What runs people down the path of progressive Christianity?  We’re seeing believers today wanting to decide the parameters of their faith with what they hold firm to in the Bible and what they won’t. This type of faith allows people to live the way they want to. But this is not real faith. In this episode, Brody sat down with Jon Rouleau, a friend who was born and raised in California, to discuss progressive Christianity and deconstruction of Christian faith. Brody and Jon explore why people are walking away from the faith and accepting an easier version of Christianity that allows people to do what they want.  For believers, there is so much cultural pressure to walk away from the faith.
