The panel was hosted by Emma Mamo, Head of Workplace Wellbeing at the mental health charity, Mind. Mind have been working in partnership with Ninja Tune, Paradigm, POLY and Percolate to raise awareness of mental health across the electronic music industry and in the podcast, Emma was joined by Simon Denby (Percolate), ELKKA (Technicolour / femme culture), Peach (NTS) and Yaya Bey (Big Dada). They explored issues like stigma, how to take care of your mental health while working in the industry and what needs to change across the industry to make it more supportive of people’s mental health. In this episode of the Ninja Tune Podcast, Matt Black, Ninja Tune founder and 1/2 of Coldcut talks with Benny Wenda, the West Papuan independence leader. Coldcut — who are friends of the Wenda family and long term supporters of the Free West Papua campaign—invited Benny Wenda to contribute to the Keleketla! record that was released last year. The resulting track, ‘Papua Merdeka’, centres around a heartfelt political invocation led by Wenda. It’s a call for freedom for the nation of West Papua from Indonesia, from which Wenda fled in 2004 after being persecuted by the Indonesian military.
