Episode 18: Karen Drucker –“Songs & Swimming”
Hey Guys! Welcome to Episode 18! (Episode 3 | Series 3) Okay! So - this episode is one that has been in the making for a long time now. When I first started this show, I always had it in my mind that I would have this guest on. In fact, off the air, most of my guests would ask, "Are you going to have her on the show? You really need to get her!" And so it is. It took me a little while due to timing and scheduling but we did it. Out of the respect that I feel for this person and what she has done and the impact that she makes, I am going to copy and paste her biography from her media kit---- Very few people can say that they have been a singing mermaid, a singing casket, and was literally “elevator music” when she was hired to sing and play piano in a moving elevator. My guest for this episode is one of the most well-known and one of the most respected positive artists out there - KAREN DRUCKER. Karen has recorded 15 CDs of her original inspirational music, and is the author of an inspirational book, “Let Go of the Shore: Stories and Songs That Set the Spirit Free.” Among her many accomplishments, she has been a professional comedienne, led her own band for corporate events, and has been the music director of New Thought Churches, as well as music director and “ music weaver” for many spiritual conferences and retreats. Karen has been honored with an Honorary Doctorate of Music for her work within the Religious Science Community, and a “Grace Note” award for her work within the Unity Movement. In following her passion, Karen sings, speaks and leads workshops at women's retreats, mind-body & health conferences, and various churches around the country, as well as working with authors like Joan Borysenko, Alan Cohen, and many others. Karen Drucker has been called “a master of communicating presence and spirituality through music.” She loves making music, making a difference, and touching hearts. I was blessed to have the opportunity to sit down and talk with Karen via Skype. As usual, we get into everything about the guest. We talked about her start as a musician with a very special piano to her swimming career to so many different things that she does. As fate would have it - some of my questions are questions that she asks of the people that participate in her retreats. It's always fun to get to ask questions that make a guest think. My favorite take-away for this episode? You don't have to be perfect. This has come up a

Episode 17: Charlotte Eriksson –“Let Yourself Live”
Hey Guys! Welcome to Episode 17! (Episode 2 | Series 3) Lots of exciting stuff going on in my world - more guests coming on the show. More ideas on how to make the show better. So much good stuff! I am very excited about the guest for this episode. Why? Well, this is a landmark episode! Not only has it been two years since I posted the FIRST EPISODE... BUT this guest is my first international guest. The email inbox for NTNS is usually empty sans the occasional alert from Twitter and Facebook that there is a new follower or like but every now and then I get an artist reaching out to me to ask if they can be on the show - which is, of course, always an honor to have someone ask. Last week, I got an email from this episode's guest and she was so delightful and had so many great things to say when I asked her how she found the show and why does she have interest in being on the show. My guest for Episode 17 is the oh-so awesome and truly talented, CHARLOTTE ERIKSSON. Charlotte Eriksson, The Glass Child, is a songwriter and writer from Sweden. When she was 17 years old she moved all on her own from Sweden to London to dedicate her life to her music and since then she has started her own record label Broken Glass Records, released 5 EPs + 1 full length, had her single ’I Will Lead You Home’ reaching #2 on the Swedish iTunes-chart and has been played on major radio stations, resulting in an exploding online fanbase with over 29,500 followers on her online sites like twitter and tumblr. Last year she independently published her first book called "Empty Roads & Broken Bottles; in search for The Great Perhaps", which is about her journey as an independent artist and the year she spent homeless on the road in England, with nothing but her guitar and a dream to reach out with her art. That is one of those stories that you think that you will only see in a movie but this girl did it in real life. And let me tell you, she is a beautiful soul. I really enjoyed getting the opportunity to chat with her on this thing we call music. Thanks to modern technology, I got to chat with her over Skype and we talk about it all. From the start of her love for music to what inspires her to what's next on her journey. It was such a breath of fresh air to meet another singer/songwriter that started "later" than most. I am constantly meeting other artists that have been doing this thing since before they were able to even put together a sentence. I

Episode 16: Ari Herstand –“Make Music That Matters”
Hey Guys! Welcome to Episode 16! (Episode 1 | Series 3) Okay! ANNNNNNND we're back! New logo. New news. The winds of change they are a blowin'.... It has been a long time since I have done an episode but I promise that I have a legitimate reason. I was finishing up the process of producing my very first album, RISE IN LOVE. If you are a listener and you gave to my Kickstarter campaign, thank you! The campaign was a major success at 110% funded. I am very proud of this album and look forward to the process of the next one. Woo!         Back to the reason that we are all here! I am very excited about this guest! I know I say that every guest but hey this one is pretty awesome! I found him via not his music but a blog that he does called Ari's Take. It is a truly informative blog on the music business and I have picked up some major bits of information on this thing called the music business. He really cuts to the chase and gives you the truth. Sometime it might be hard to swallow but this guys knows his stuff. This is a great source for all those DIY musicians out there. I use the blog as a constant reference for information. "I don't know the answer to that question...I'll go check Ari's Take." Here is the deal - not only is he an incredibly knowledgable guy but he is also an incredible musician. He does something that is pretty unique and fun to see---LOOPING. BUT that's not what we are here to talk about. Ari has some incredible songs and has been placed in all sorts of cool stuff! My guest for Episode 16 is the oh-so awesome and truly talented, ARI HERSTAND. I got to chat with him over Skype and we talk about it all. His process of writing a song, the beginning of his career, the journey of picking up the guitar to get chicks (um...I mean to make music and express himself), a little bit about the music business and so much more. My own take-away? Stop trying to make music to make it big or for some higher-ups somewhere in a magical tower in the land of music business. Sometimes I feel like there is a trap that comes with creating music...of course, it is a valid desire to want to "make it big" in the biz but that isn't the point. Making music is a service to us all. It is this gift that some of us have---so, why squander it on trying to please others. It gets polluted with ego and so many other things that don't matter. It can be real easy to lose sight of making music that matters when there are so many people out there doing it. Fo

Episode 14: Erika Luckett –“Trust Yo’self!”
Hey Guys! Welcome to Episode 14! (Episode 4 | Series 2) I want to first apologize for the delay with this episode. I have been working on my debut album, RISE IN LOVE, and it has taken up quite a bit of my time, which is, of course, very cool. ALMOST DONE. ON WITH THE EPISODE! This guest has been brought up to me many times before. I have had so many people say, "You should get her on your show!" --- So, thanks to the wonderful world of technology and social media, I reached out to my guest and she said YES! Woo! As I was preparing for the interview, a friend said to me, "Prepare for your mind to be blown"...and it was. So, without further adieu, my guest for this episode is the incredible and mind-blowing, Erika Luckett. I really had a wonderful time with this interview. She had so many great things to say about her journey in music. Growing up in music. Pretty much all facets of her life are pretty darn interesting. She even tells a great story about the healing power of music in her own life. My own take-away? TRUST YOURSELF! I think there is a misunderstanding that is going on in the world when it comes to artists. Our art is often so much an audience oriented thing and we can get caught up in what other's think. It's when we trust ourselves that magic truly happens. The best songs that I have ever written came about just not caring what others thought and just letting the song come out. There is something unique within each of us. In this particular situation, it is the inner-songwriter...The inner voice. We know what's right - we just follow that wisdom within. RIGHT?! As always, I truly love recording these episodes because every time I do, I learn something new. It's more for me than it is for you. Ha! Sorry! You can check out Erika's website - www.erikaluckett.com Like her on FACEBOOK Also, all of Erika's music is available HERE on iTUNES. Purchase the song "Dust" that was featured on the episode HERE. Purchase Erika's album, UNEXPECTED  here on iTunes.  Also, be sure to check Erika's other projects. As I mentioned in the episode she is known also for a duo project with Lisa Ferraro. Episode 13: Johana –“Just Go With It”
Hey Guys! Welcome to Episode 13! (Episode 3 | Series 2) AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Okay, not really...maybe a little.  I met this guest a little over a year ago when we both participated in a artists retreat and concert with Faith Rivera (Episode 6). I remember hearing her songs and thinking, "Wow, this is cool!" She is incredibly sweet and incredibly talented AND she has a featured vocalist spot on my upcoming debut album -pretty cool. She is Johana. She does something a little different and that is what is called "Top-lining", which means she writes lyrics to already established tracks. It's actually a little more difficult than most might think. You don't have the flexibility when you are writing a song in the "regular" way because you can't just use a different chord or structure or whatever - you have to work with what you are given and just go with it. I got the opportunity to talk live with Johana in NTNS Studios and we talk about it all. We talk about how she discovered Soulful House Music and what it's like to write a song to a track and what are some of the challenges. My own take-away? Don't think too hard - just go with it. As artist, we tend to think so much about everything, which is a little counter-productive as we want to let ourselves be free to express what we want to express in song. Get out of the way and just go with it! As always, I truly love recording these episodes because every time I do, I learn something new. It's more for me than it is for you. Ha! Sorry! You can check out Johana's website - www.johanaismusic.com Like her on FACEBOOK Follow her on twitter @JohanaIsMusic Also, all of Johana's music is available HERE on iTUNES. Episode 11: Kelly Corsino –“Let It Be”
Hey Guys! Welcome to Episode 11!  AKA Episode 1 of Series 2. Can you believe it? NTNS has been going for a year. Well, almost a year. August 29th will be the official year anniversary. Thank you so much for listening and being here on the journey. On with the episode! A couple years ago, I got the opportunity to see this guest perform at The NoHo Arts Center for New Thought. After that, I started to hear about her all over the place. Eventually, through lots of emails, I got to know her. She has been a huge support of my career, including making taking a long drive to see my very first live performance. WHAT?! Yeah, she is that awesome! So, not only is she an amazing person but an incredible artist and songwriter. She is a winner of two LA Music Awards; Best New Artist and Best Vocalist, and  has three Posi Award Nominations. Right from the first note, her voice crawls into the depths of your soul and tears it open. Wow, kind of dramatic BUT it's true. She has one of the most stunning voices. She is the uh-mazing Kelly Corsino. I got talk with Kelly in NTNS Studios and we talk about it all. Growing up in Music - Her process of songwriting - Her new album ("Let Love In") and so much more. My own take-away? Tell yourself "Good Job" - give yourself a pat on the back - see your value. YOU ARE AWESOME! We all need a moment where we give ourselves a pat on the back and allow ourselves to love ourselves and support ourselves fully and deeply. Especially as artist, when sometimes you can easily fall into the "Your Own Worst Critic" slump. As always, I truly love recording these episodes because every time I do, I learn something new. It's more for me than it is for you. Ha! Sorry! You can check out Kelly's website -  www.kellycorsino.com Like her on FACEBOOK Follow her on twitter @KellyCorsino Also, all of Kelly's music is available HERE on iTUNES. Episode 10: Levi Kreis –“At The End Of The Day…”
Hey Guys! Welcome to Episode 10! The final episode of Series One. Woo! It seems that I have to say this for every episode and perhaps I should stop repeating myself but for now I will do it anyway - I am very excited about the guest for this episode. He is incredibly authentic. I say it in the episode but if you ever get a chance to see him play, TAKE IT! He is incredible! I feel truly blessed to have in my life and as a mentor, so-to-speak. He is also a fellow newly minted licensed practitioner with the Centers for Spiritual Living. His Awards include--- A Tony Award (2010 Best Featured Actor In A Musical for Million Dollar Quartet), Outer Critics Circle Award, OUTMusic Award... His songs have been featured on The Vampire Diaries, Sons of Anarchy, The Apprentice, Days of Our Lives, and many more... He has appeared on The View, David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon. He also is on the list of one of the most funded campaigns in history on Kickstarter I have the amazing and oh so talented – Levi Kreis He is constantly an inspiration to me for his authenticity. Not to mention, his music is incredible. I got talk with Levi over Skype and we talk about it all. His start - the ups and downs of his career - addiction - love. EVERYTHING! My favorite piece of advice? Love yourself and stop trying to impress people. I am sure I am not alone in this but I have fallen victim to this a couple of times when my artistry suffers from an ego reaction to my thoughts that people need to be impressed by my songs or etc. etc. etc... Stop it! Just write! We are unique and we must express our gifts. Do it! As always, I truly love recording these episodes because every time I do, I learn something new. Episode 9: Jami Lula –“God, Praying, & Being On Call”
Hey Guys! Welcome to Episode 9! I have to admit that I have been putting off this episode a bit. I have wanted to get this particular songwriter on the show since I started the show almost a year ago. I respect him immensely not only as a singer/songwriter and musician but as a person. He is one of the most wonderful people that I have ever met and I truly feel blessed to call him a friend. I can safely say that he is the one that truly inspired me to do this thing we call songwriting - specifically Positive Music. I saw him perform three years ago and I instantly was drawn to his music, his vocals, and his authenticity. Really - you ask anyone that knows of him or knows him and you will hear the same thing - Amazing person. AMAZING MUSIC. He is non-other than the amazing Jami Lula. I have to add a bit of a disclaimer here and tell you that this is the longest episode to date. Clocking in at almost two hours. It really is worth it! I had Jami over to my home and we chatted about everything - maybe not everything but it really felt like it. From Songwriting to God to Praying and how they are all related. We got a chance to talk about a couple of his songs too! Be prepared to hear some really great stuff. I even got to ask a listener question--- QUESTION FROM KELLY CORSINO: Where were you at physically and emotionally when you wrote "Something's Calling Me" ? Was it a, "hey I'm gonna sit down and write moment? Or was it a holy moly grab a pen quick here it comes moment?" My favorite piece of advice? It's more of a question that I would think he charges us to ask ourselves as songwriters---how open am I? Am I open to letting this song to come through. We are on call. Our job is a 24/7 - 365 kind of job. Our shift never ends. Puts a lot of things into perspective. In fact, if you really think about it and get down to it - it takes a little bit of the weight off the entire creative process. Get out of the way and let it sing through you. As always, I truly love recording these episodes because every time I do, I learn something new. It's more for me than it is for you. Ha! Sorry! Episode 8: Daniel Nahmod –“Speaking My Language”
Hey Guys! Welcome to Episode 8! Another great episode with another great songwriter. This is a man that I truly respect and admire because he makes his living as a songwriter. He is extremely busy with family (including a 16 month old baby, Jude), producing albums for not only himself but for other artists (like Karen Mitchell from Episode 4) and continuing to go out and play all over the place. His music has appeared all over the place (MTV, NBC, CNN, History Channel, Lifetime...just to name a few) and he is multi-award winning. There is so much to say about this man's accomplishments as a songwriter and so much to say about his ability to write music that matters. Really - He is all that but I have to say that he is an all around great dude and I truly enjoyed talking with him for this episode. Shootin' the breeze about something we both enjoy doing so much. He is non-other than the amazing Daniel Nahmod. I got the opportunity to sit down with Daniel (via Skype) and talk about his process of songwriting. We talk about his career thus far. We talked about the importance of music itself to people and the world. We even talk about the importance for a songwriter to learn production and recording your stuff. One of my favorite facts about him is that he took a sabbatical and all he did was write write and write some more. There are truly so many gold nuggets of songwriter truth in this one. My favorite piece of advice? Don't force it. Allow yourself to write crap. Walk away if you need to. Take a break! It's okay. Honestly, I haven't met many songwriters who have not expressed this to me at least once. I know that is something that I get caught in sometimes. This silly loop of "it's gotta be perfect" blah blah blah. As always, I truly love recording these episodes because every time I do, I learn something new. It's more for me than it is for you. Ha! Episode 7: Ernie Halter –“Perfection Sperfection”
Hey Guys! Welcome to Episode 7! This has to be one of my favorite episodes! I can't even tell you how excited I am for the guest of this month's episode. A few years back, I was wandering about the internet,  listening to music on Pandora and this man's song, "Whisper" came on my speakers. I remember thinking, "Holy crap! This is a great song!" as I listened to more and more of his music, I found myself having the same reaction to every single song. If you know me at all, you may know that if I ever have to fill out an "Influences" section about my music, his name always goes on the list. He is not only incredibly successful - he is incredibly busy - AND he has a family, which does include 2 year old twins, who are awesomely referred to as "The Twinjas". He is non-other than the amazing Ernie Halter. I got the opportunity to sit down with Ernie (via Skype) and talk about his process of songwriting. We got to talk about what he does about writers block and how he deals with it. He even tells probably one of the coolest stories about a song that I have ever heard. My favorite piece of advice? Release perfectionism! Just finish the song. Be accountable and set deadlines. I felt so inspired after recording this episode because I know that is something that I get caught in sometimes. This silly loop of "it's gotta be perfect" blah blah blah. Just finish! Do what you can with where you are at in this current moment. I truly love recording these episodes because every time I do, I learn something new. It's more for me than it is for you. Ha! Sorry! Episode 6: Faith Rivera –“Be Open”
Hey Guys! Welcome to Episode 6! The very first episode of 2013. What?! Sorry for the delay of getting this episode out there. Like I said in my last episode - it has been a busy month. I got married and went on my glorious honeymoon in Ireland. I almost didn't come back. I am super excited for the guest of this episode. I am honored to call her a friend and a mentor. She is and Emmy-Winning Singer/Songwriter (along with a ton of other awards for her songwriting) and an all around AMAZING person, Faith Rivera. I got the opportunity to sit down with Faith and talk about her process of songwriting. We even got to talk a little about the dreaded self-comparison and how it happens to all of us. AND - it's okay to put something in the "Later File" My favorite piece of advice? Be Open! Be open to the song. Be open to the process. Just Be Open to the bigger picture and allow the song to sing through you! I forget that more often than not there is a bigger picture to a song and that the song really does want to be written - I just have to get out of the way and let it! Hey Guys! Welcome to Episode 5! The last episode of 2012. What?! It's been a busy month! I am now officially married! Woo! His songs have been recorded by people such as Neil Sedaka, Elvis, Elton John, The Carpenters, Perry Como, and so many more... Hey Guys! YES!!!! EPISODE 4!!! First of all, thank you so much for listening. Like I say at the end of the episode - no matter how you are listening (iTunes, Stitcher, or the Website) Thank you for listening. Sorry the delay on this episode--Guess waht! I'm getting married! What?! Yup, I am getting married. Needless to say it has taken over the forefront of my mind. Just so you all know, I will have some big news coming soon but I can't give it away until it is official but it is super excited. For me at least! :) This episode is a fun episode. I got to sit down with my friend, Karen Mitchell. She is an amazing person  not to mention a great songwriter. Every time I hear one of Karen's song's, I melt. She is amazing. What should you be looking forward to in this episode? Well, I am glad you asked---yodeling. If you listen for nothing else, listen for the yodeling because there is some. I have officially gotten someone to yodel on my show. Love that. But seriously, listen to the episode and gain some insight about Karen Mitchell, her music, her family, her process of music and hear what she is up to.  Bag pipes and yodeling, nothing wrong with that! Hey Guys!   Here we are! We made it... EPISODE 2... Can you believe it? It seems just like last month we were on Episode 1. Wait a minute!!! Oh Josh, You and your silly antics... Alright! So, this episode is a very cool episode. I have to say that I was truly excited when my next guest agreed to be on the show. Here is the thing - Doug Lebow is the real deal. Yes, he is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist but guess what...he makes his living as a songwriter. That's right! The man every single day writes songs in some form or another and gets paid the big bucks to do it. Just goes to show you that there IS gold in them there hills. I sit down with him on this episode and talk about how he got to where he is, how he does what he does and how THE MUSE IS NEVER LATE. Follow Rev.
