We have a desperate need for Father’s in the home. We have a drought in California and our leaders are taking hard steps to conserve water. But there is a worse drought in America: Fatherless homes. This is maybe our biggest root of societal problems, yet we don’t seem to factor this in as a huge cultural dilemma. This father’s day I want to take us into the life of the prodigal son’s father. It is so much easier to justify wrong actions in our lives when things go wrong. We can easily throw in the moral towel so to speak since things are going the way I thought they should. We now live in culture of ancient grievances. People love to dig up the past on others no matter how many years ago the transgression happened. Now we move to the fourth and sixth trials of Jesus. Both being before Pontius Pilate. In the first three trials the charge is Blaspheme but now the Jewish leaders take Jesus to Pilate with charges of treason against the Roman Empire. And why do they do this? Because only Rome has the authority to condemn a man to death. They want an innocent man dead. They will approach Pilate with loud yelling and screaming but zero evidence of the charges they bring. As Jesus marches toward death He will be subject to six trials throughout the night before His crucifixion. And why, because the political and religious leaders are jealous of Him, afraid of Him and do not want an outsider disrupting their system. So they want Him dead.
