Season 2 - Episode 1 - What does change mean to you?
Welcome to Music MeetUp, the podcast by Music Meeting. In this series, you get to know the people behind the music, the stories behind the tracks and the musicians who play at our festival. They are from Hungary or Brazil, from Syria or the Netherlands, from all over the world. They give you a glimpse of their lives as artists and of the context in which they create their beautiful music. In their own words and through their experience, they tell you about their life on the road, magic encounters, exciting inspirations, culinary delights and more…  Faced with radical changes in the world in the last few years, many artists had to or wanted to reflect on their music, question their role in the world, or re-invent themselves. Inspired by the writings of James Baldwin that “nothing is fixed” (pause) “the earth is always shifting, the light is always changing”, Music Meeting asks the artists ‘what does change mean to you?’ Music MeetUp is a production by Music Meeting. Concept, research and direction by Sophie Conin Production and editing by Jozien Wijkhuijs and Tiemen Hageman Narrator Lucy Woodward More information about this podcast and Music Meeting festival is available at musicmeeting.nl  Hosted on Acast. Pilot Episode - Ramón Valle & Reinier Baas* (Dutch/English)
In a year marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, host Leendert van der Valk catches up with Cuban pianist Ramón Valle and guitarist Reinier Baas, as they recorded an exclusive online concert at the invitation of Music Meeting Festival. Cuban pianist Ramón Valle emigrated to the Netherlands in part because of the country’s liberal jazz scene. In his impressionistic playing, latin, classical and jazz music merge seamlessly. Reinier Baas' guitar playing is also fluid - not too smooth, but apparently effortless. He likes to defy expectations, challenge his fellow musicians and mislead listeners. Naturally, Valle and Baas have common grounds, but it is precisely the juxtaposition of Valle's impressionistic playing and Baas’ adventurous streak which makes for an exciting musical exchange of ideas. The conversation is partly in English and partly in Dutch.
