This week was amazing! Some truly incredible films were watched and loved.  The highlights include Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Samourai (1967), Danny Boyle's Sunshine (2007), and Alex Cox's Repo Man (1984).  I attmept to break down the minimalist elements of Melville's super cool French noir and place it in a broader spectrum of the French New Wave.  New segments take hold and I rant about craft beer...again.  Other films discussed: Fiend Without a Face (1958), First Man into Space (1959), Corridors of Blood (1959), Super Troopers 2 (2018), The Fog (1980), Deep Blue Sea (1999), Piranha (1978), Runaway (1984). Episode 15: 1001 Movies and the Revenge of the Auteur
On this episode I discuss a book called "1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die" by Steven Jay Schneider and Ian Haydn Smith.  Since I did not watch a lot of worthy movies this week, I decided to open this book and talk about whatever movies pop up at random.  I learn about new movies and give stories and background on the movies that I know.  It was a pretty good time! Recorded July 27, 2018

Minisode 5: Beer and Movie Pairings Vol. 1 with Special Guests
On this episode, I invite a group of craft-beer-drinking friends on the podcast in an attempt to pair beer with movies.  Each beer was hand selected from our beer cellars and cracked open with the skill.  Ramblings and tagents abound as we struggle to analyze, extrapolate, and pair each beer with a movie of our choice.  However, once Angus MacFadyen is brought up the show goes quickly off the rails.  *yes someone does confuse Halloween and Friday the 13th, I'm aware! Recorded July 21, 2018

Episode 14: The Long Take and the Slow Cinema Masters
This week I discuss slow cinema and the use of long takes.  Why does the long take matter?  What is its purpose?  Is the long take the point?  All these questions will be explored as I talk about Stranger than Paradise (1984), The Man From London (20017), and Le Plaisir (1952).  Other films watched this week: A Day at the Races (1937), Braven (2018), The Atomic Submarine (1959), The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984), and TAU (2018).  Follow me on Twitter @FilmBrewer and @MP365Podcast. Episode 13: The Jaws Sequels and the Attack of the Oh No!
This episode focuses on sequels, tentpoles and the differences between the two.  Using the abysmal Jaws sequels as a jumping board, I attempt to place sequels into the business of Hollywood.  Why do we have sequels?  Where did they come from?  Are they our friends?  Also the results of this week's Best of Decades Battle!  Other films discussed: The Greatest Showman (2017), His Girl Friday (1940), Swing Time (1936), Jaws 2 (1978), Jaws 3 (1983), Jaws: The Revenge (1987), and The Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018). Episode 12: Jimmy C and the Big Star Three
The history of movie stardom is examined using James Cagney as a model of what being a star means.  How stars emerged in Hollywood and how they came to dominate posters, marquees, credits is very important to understand in the evolution of the studio system.  Other films discussed: The Death of Stalin (2017), Game Night (2018), Lady Killer (1933), Each Dawn I Die (1939), Force 10 From Navarone (1978), The Commuter (2018), The Fighting 69th (1940), The Picture Snatcher (1933), and Transformers: The Last Knight (2017).  Plus results from the first Best of Decades Battle! On this week's episode I break down the though process behind remaking, rebooting and, re-imaginating films.  I start with examples from both Murder on the Orient Express films (1974) & (2017), then bring them together with comparisons based on audiences, technology, and filmmaking choices.  Other familiar remakes are discussed as well as why Hollywood has always been remake happy.  Other films discussed: Tokyo Drifter (1966), Over the Top (1987), Coco (2017). Steamboat Round the Bend (1935), Fast and Furious (1939), The Narrow Margin (1952). and The Cross of Lorraine (1943).  Recorded June 29, 2018

Episode 10: Incredibles 2 and the Hays Code Dames
This week is all about the Incredbles 2 (2018), nostalgia, the Hays Code, and Dames (1934).  I ponder the virtual vs. the real with regards to Pixar and Marvel. Sex vs. Violence in terms of censorship as well as how Masculinity is portrayed in TAG (2018).  Other films discussed: Tomb Raider (2018), Sweet Smell of Success (1957), The Last Man on Earth (1964). Episode 9: Ocean's 8 and the Heist on Haunted Hill
I break down the toxicity of film criticism and the ugly side of fandom (36:00).  I admit that I will never tell someone not to watch a movie simply because I do not like it.  Also, included is good and bad comparisons of Ocean's 8 (2018) to Ocean's 11 (2001).  I bring up the horror genre and why I can't seemingly get on the bandwagon of horror...and it's all my fault.  Other films talked about include: The Swarm (1978), Universal Soldier (1992), House on Haunted Hill (1959), Kill Command (2016), Only God Forgives (2013), The Mission (1999), and The Haunted Strangler (1958).  Recorded June 15, 2018

Episode 8: Annihilation and the Sci-Fi Kids
This week I break down a handful of science fiction films from the past couple years.  In the discussion I unpack what makes a film a science fiction film and compare that with fantasy as a genre.  Tagents abound in this episode as I struggle to come to grips with why I have such stong feelings toward the sci-fi genre.  Films discussed include: Annihilation (2018), Sigularity (2017), Alien Arrival (2016), Spectral (2016), Cargo (2017), Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets ( 2017), and the Lego Batman Movie (2017).   Recorded June 8, 2018

On a rainy Sunday morning I sit down with Andy, one of the best people ever, and discuss the embarassing films that make up our top five guilty pleasure films.  We talk about what makes a movie a guilty pleasure as well why each movie fits that criteria.  Also, we try to gauge our love for each film against the Tomatometer to see if our guilt is real or imagined.  If you'd like, respond on Twitter @MP365Podcast with your top five guilty pleasure films, don't be shy!  Cheers! Episode 7: Billy Wilder and the Lock-Me-Ups
On this episode I discuss the fact that inadvertantly watched three prison movies and try to connect them with bubblegum and toothpicks.  Billy Wilder takes center stage as I talk about Stalag 17 (1953) and Witness for the Prosecution (1957).  The other prison movie just happens to be Two-Way Stretch (1960) starring Peter Sellers. Sellers makes another appearence in 1957's The Smallest Show on Earth as the drunken yet lovable projectionist Mr. Quill.  Other films that made their way through my eyes and into my brain this week are: Anon (2018), The Bribe (1949), Whisky Galore (1949), Across the Pacific (1942), 20 Million Miles to Earth (1957), and Hannie Caulder (1971).  I also enjoy a Hazy Little Thing from Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.   Recorded June 1, 2018
