MAS 016: Death, Afterlife, and Hell
In this sixteenth episode of The Morning-After Show, Mike and I discuss death, the possibility of life after death, heaven, and hell. In addressing these weighty subjects, we acknowledge that our modern day understanding of the physical world extends well beyond that of ancient peoples, which creates even greater uncertainty and complexity when discussing these eternal questions. We begin the conversation with the subject of death, discussing God’s proclamation to Adam, “For dust you are and to dust you shall return.” The idea of our returning to dust leads us to further talk about two important questions: “Is there life after death?” and “Are humans eternal beings?” After exploring the possibility of life after death, Mike and I delve into heaven and hell. We address the pitfalls of viewing the Bible too literally and discuss what the biblical imagery reveals about humankind’s ultimate destiny in our relationship with God and one another. For easy reference, here’s outline of Episode 16: What is death? 1:53 What is hell? 6:38 What is heaven? 17:09 Is life eternal? 26:53 We all have a choice 31:13
