19 – Hospital Housekeeper Reinvents “Pockets” To Crowdfund Over $80K – Brenda Brundage of RooSport
The idea of the RooSport started in 2005 when Brenda Brundage was asked by her running partner to create a pocket for her son who was an elite runner and triathlete. She created a small pocket for him and we pinned it onto his shorts. He loved it! Brenda then created a pocket for herself and sewed it onto her running skirt. During her daily runs, she found it so useful that she decided to create a pocket that anyone could use on their existing running wear. One day while running, she came up with the idea of magnets. After several prototypes, she developed the design for the RooSport. She applied for a job at the local hospital as a housekeeper to pay for the patent and started looking for manufacturers. She also took some business classes at a local College, and came up with a business plan. After several prototypes were sent back and forth Brenda finally came up with a product that she was happy with. She sent several out for reviews from runners in her area as well as some she had never met. The reviews were so positive that she decided that she was ready to try to sell the RooSport. Then, she secured a booth at the local marathon and set up a table under a tree in the park. We sold 60 RooSports that night and the idea was so well received that she has spent the last year and a half selling at marathon expos all over the country. People love the Roosport, and she is constantly getting emails from customers who have found so many different uses for it. It naturally is good for any sport, hiking, biking etc. but also for traveling, cruises, Theme Parks, Shopping, as well as medical equipment ( inhalers, diabetic pumps and meters) and so on. She's made several changes in the design as Roosport's customers have asked for a bigger size, as well as more water resistant. They are currently working on colors, and a few more design changes. The RooSport has been a positive change for runners everywhere. It allows them to carry personal items without having to wear a belt around their waist. It is comfortable, and the biggest comment we get is “I didn’t even know I was wearing it!” It creates a pocket in anything you are wearing and its applications are endless. 16: Making Goals Is Awesome with Mauricio Estrella (Passwords Changed His Life)
Can password therapy really improve your life? Mauricio Estrella, an associate creative director in Shanghai, developed a unique way to create and remember passwords. He used a personal goal to create an affirmation and it became a password infused with the power of positive thinking. Here’s his story… “How could she do something like this to me?” said the voice in my head, over and over. It was 2011 and I was stuck in middle of a pretty bad depression due to my divorce. Thankfully, I think I was smart enough (and had great people around me) so I managed my way out. One day I walk into the office, and my computer screen showed me the following message: “Your password has expired. Click ‘Change password’ to change your password.” I read this dumb message in my mind with angry grandpa voice: The darn password has expired. At my workplace, the Microsoft Exchange server is configured to ask thousands of employees around the planet to change their passwords. Every 30 days. Here what’s annoying: The server forces us to use at least one UPPERCASE character, at least one lowercase alphabetic character, at least one symbol and at least one number. Oh, and the whole thing can’t be less than 8 characters. And I can’t use any of the same passwords I’ve used in the last 3 months. I was furious that morning. A sizzling hot Tuesday, it was 9:40 a.m and I was late to work. I was still wearing my bike helmet and had forgotten to eat breakfast. I needed to get things done before a 10 a.m. meeting and changing passwords was going to be a huge waste of time. As the input field with the pulsating cursor was waiting for me to type a password — something I’d use many times during every day — I remembered a tip I heard from my former boss. And I decided: I’m gonna use a password to change my life. It was obvious that I couldn’t focus on getting things done with my current lifestyle and mood. Of course, there were clear indicators of what I needed to do — or what I had to achieve — in order to regain control of my life, but we often don’t pay attention to these clues. My password became the indicator. My password reminded me that I shouldn’t let myself be victim of my recent break up, and that I’m strong enough to do something about it. My password became: “Forgive@h3r” I had to type this statement several times a day. Each time my computer would lock. Each time my screensaver with her photo would appear. Each time I w

10: How Seymour Segnit’s thingCHARGER Surged Over 2500% On Indiegogo
thingCHARGER is a simple, elegant new way to charge all your things. Just plug it into any outlet and you’ll have a neat charging station — free of ugly wires. You can even plug 2 or 3 thingCHARGERs together and charge all your things at once. In this interview Seymour mentioned how he may have captured lightning in a bottle... or in this case the "charge in our digital devices. Asking for $25,000 in his original IndieGogo product launch he ended up raising nearly $650,000 by the time the campaign had ended. thingCHARGER looks to do wireless charging in a different way. Their product is a plug-in device that sits over-top of your wall outlet and features interchangeable tops that allow for different gadgets to be charged on top of it without the need of a cable. iPhones, Androids and other devices can be plugged into the top of the thingCHARGER while still giving you access to your outlet plugs. You can stack multiple thingCHARGERS on top of each as well to create a multi-pronged charging dock. It’s a pretty interesting take on changing how electronic charging works and they have created plenty of enthusiasm for their product. thingCHARGER MENTIONS: thingCHARGER Website - www.thingcharger.com Indiegogo campaign - http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/thingcharger-the-awesome-new-charger-for-all-your-things The Kickass Crowdfunding Show - www.kickasscrowdfunding.com ADDITIONAL MENTIONS: Waze - www.waze.com Agency 2.0 - www.agency20.com ZenDesk www.zendesk.com Asana www.asana.com Powersquid www.powersquid.com Trident Design www.trident-design.com

These movie enthusiasts and "pun" loving fans are "over the moon" about the couple's flagship boardgame product called SCHMOVIE. In SCHMOVIE, players come up with funny titles for make believe movies based on a film genre (determined by the roll of a die), combined with an outlandish character (generated by flipping two cards). Players might write titles such as “Rye Hard”, “Stop or I’ll Prosciutto”, “You’re Toast” (starring Burnt Reynolds), or “Breadator”. 7: How Upcycle Businesses Are Changing The World – Patrick Lehoux Of Bottle Cutting Inc.
Patrick Lehoux was introduced to the concept of crowdfunding and became driven to develop something the world hadn’t seen. He developed a prototype for the Kinkajou Bottle Cutter and ran his first Kickstarter campaign which made a little over $80,000. This brought the Kinkajou to the market. About six months later, becoming overwhelmed by the demands of this new venture, Pat gave up a great job with an engineering firm and contacted a colleague from University. After having worked together for a few years solving business case studies in the MBA program, Pat and Jen started doing it in real life with the Kinkajou. Listening closely to the feedback from the first 5000 Kinkajou owners, Pat decided to take a trip to the manufacturer in China to investigate the opportunity to make the Kinkajou easier to use. After much deliberation, it was decided that production of the Kinkajou would stop while some minor changes were made to the design. After much anticipation, the new Kinkajou design is now available for purchase. In the meantime, Pat conceptualized the second product that he wanted to bring to the world called the Jabiru bottle top stem. The Kickstarter campaign for the Jabiru finished up in mid June, raising a little over $75,000, thus expanding the product line of Bottle Cutting Inc. Everyday, Pat and Jen work from a small home office in Northern Ontario, Canada. They listen to customers and strive to develop a community of people who enjoy do-it-yourself projects, who love gadgets and creating unique and personalized items for their home and of course who see up-cycling as important. The product line for Bottle Cutting Inc is always going to be in a growth phase. Just recently, they've launched their third product called Firefly (which at the time of this post is a live Kickstarter). Check it out below! 5: How Our Pets & Art Can Heal & Inspire Us
How did Randy Bieniek go from educator to artist to game inventor? Life has a funny way of presenting “opportunities” when you’re not looking! Randy grew up in Atlanta, GA, raising a menagerie of pets and creating various art and crafts as a hobby. She spent 20 years as a school psychologist for elementary, middle and high schools and “retired” to give birth to triplets, and raise her eldest son. To maintain my sanity after a day of feeding, cleaning, rocking, and entertaining multiples plus doing a mountain of laundry, she'd retreat to her kitchen table art studio for some peace and creative self-expression. She found enjoyment in painting pastel portraits of children for 11 years but it was the passing of her elderly dog, Chelsea, that served as a eureka moment we so often hear about. She was eventually commissioned to paint, and realized their personalities could be captured in a fun, 3-D way (combination of acrylic paint, craft, and humor). Zazzy Pals® has become a collection of over 100 dog and cat “characters” based on their TRUE names and unique stories. Children who view these colorful portraits are fascinated as I explain that they are real pets, not imaginary. Zazzy Pals® newest product, children’s card game, CANINE CARDZ, joins a line of Zazzy Pals® greeting cards and is perfect to take on vacations and include in camp care packages or even as a family game for those that own and rent out vacation spaces/homes. They say necessity is the mother of invention. Arya Ball was created by California native Babak Forutanpour after a visit to a local park with his 7-year old son Arya to play some football. When Arya later decided he also wanted to play some soccer instead, the two had to cut their day at the park short. It was Arya's frustration that inspired his dad to set out to build the perfect sports toy. Today, AryaBall allows children and adults a like to play football, soccer, baseball, golf and flying disc with a single ball and bat.
