No Hope for Redemption with Chester Shepard
After connecting with The Adolescent Redemption Project , I realize that these stories need to be heard.  I had the pleasure of hearing from Chester Shepard, who has now been incarcerated 47 years sentenced to life without parole. He practices every day to live a life of God and Grace even when the world says he doesn’t deserve a second chance. At what point can we decide that someone has earned a second chance for redemption?  When the prisoner no longer holds a threat to society and when even the laws that held him there for life have been overturned in 1980, how can we continue to turn our back on this human being?   I often wonder if we will ever to be able to build systems based on forgiveness and compassion.  How many more lives could we truly save when our world isn’t run by the pursuit of power, politics and greed and more on the spiritual potential that lives within all of us?   Even as I spoke to Shepard, I thought to myself how does a man like still continue to be an inspiration and a mentor to so many others? How does he continue to help others when we’ve told him he isn’t worthy of a second chance?  If this is something that a man with no freedom, locked in a place where hope is a dangerous idea to hold, can find then isn’t it worth us listening to these stories and taking action so more lives don’t get silently sacrificed.  I do not condone the actions that got these men sentenced, but I do believe that they’ve earned the right to redeem themselves in society.  At what point in sentencing can we decide there is a better way forward for rehabilitation for the ones that when given the proper tools and education want to become something better? Don’t we at least need to give these adolescents a 1st chance before taking away their 2nd?  Unfortunately, there are so many cases like Josh’s & Shepard’s where once sentences they are left forgotten to do nothing, become nothing and to die silently forgotten from society.  I encourage you to ask yourself is this really the best we can do as humans?  Wouldn’t a shot of redemption, rehabilitation and re-education be a better way to go that encourages, inspires and educates others from making the same mistakes?    Although Chester Shepard and Josh Puckett don’t put the blame on anyone or anything other than their own choices, when do we as a society take responsibility for the fact that our systems, poor education and lack of community and togetherness have created the very things that we are condemning as guilty.  Only together can we truly become the change we want to see.   If you would like to join the fight for 2nd chances, please visit The Adolescent Redemption Project to see how you can take part in saving lives, but also aiding in the education so adolescents faced with the same choices don’t make the same mistakes.  What the say about Chester Shepard now:  “Mr. Shepard is professional, kind and remarkably happy every day. He brings a joy and light to all individuals he is around. He often takes younger inmates under his wing, and does his best to encourage them to live up to their potential. He is a kind and gentle 67-year-old "old timer" who is loved by all who know him.” - MDOC Officers, fellow inmates and his work supervisors To Support Shepard, Josh and their Mission to stop condemning adolescents to the silent death sentence , please go to: adolescentredemptionproject.org To Join Our One Tribe Rising Team, please reach out to:One Life. The Fight For Second Chances w/ Josh Puckett
Join me and a very special guest, Josh Puckett,  and the TARP (The Adolescent Redemption Project) as we talk about Josh's personal mission to help others and himself fight for a second chance.  Since we are speaking from Prison, you will be able to hear the recording when our allotted time is up as well as the poorer audio quality.Much like Josh, I believe that Transformation comes from the Small & Mighty Steps that reap the Mighty Rewards and even through the most dyer of circumstances we each hold the most valuable resource we have, Our Choice to focus on the things we can control and go All In on that.  While in prison, Josh wrote a workbook called The Power of the Grind, to help others grow and transform in a way more beneficial to themselves and to other’s around them.   The Power of the Grind resonated with me deeply in a powerful way.  The books multiple lessons aligned with all that I try to Teach & Reflect through the service in my life for others.  It is a simple, effective pocket guide to build a better foundation on Value, Principles & Heart vs. fear, doubt & ego as so many of us has been taught.   Undeniably, it hurts my heart to think that people, actual human beings like Josh and so many others are sentenced to Life with no opportunity for redemption.  In my opinion, the Personal Growth that Josh has Risen through should be Honored and Appreciated as he is setting a new standard for someone in his circumstance.  Where so many choose to give up, he chooses Empower, Educate & Entertain a new way of thinking, feeling and behaving for those who are not being given a second chance.    Josh and I have had countless conversations and every time I walk away from them a better person for having met Josh and so often just left with one major question of why are we keeping him behind bars?  Why can we not see that by doing so we are actually robbing so many others of what Josh has to offer others who are on the verge of giving up?  How many others like Josh, have we locked away to be forgotten about, with no hope, with no future? Are we truly honoring the lives lost from these horrendous circumstances?  Josh rarely speaks about his own freedom, but more so fights for the freedom of others when it has come down to how can he become a service to others.  Rarely has he asked for anything for himself, although I know his fight to become a free man is still a very real cause, one that I can only hope that somehow through these words can give his story some justice.  I am in awe of his strength, determination and dedication to helping others fight for something that I can only imagine can feel very hopeless at times and hope is something that I believe that we should all fight for because when hope is gone, so leaves our desire and our will to fight for the value of our lives. Without feeling hopeful, we feel helpless and when we feel helpless, we get caught up in disempowering thoughts, feelings & actions that only continue the victim mentality cycle which only breeds more fear and destruction.  Isn’t this the exact thing that we are trying to prevent and avoid by locking up these people and throwing away the keys for life?  Where we can go one, we can go all!  To Support Josh and his Mission and start practicing a model of Service where No Lives Get Left Behind, please go to:  www.freejoshpuckett.comadolescentredemptionproject.org To Join Our One Tribe Rising Team, please reach out to:One Life. Being Kind One Food Hug at A Time w/ Chef Jenna Arcidiacono
Please Join me as I welcome Cher Jenna ArcidiaCono, owner of Amore Trattoria.  I first met Chef Jenna, when she was one of the four Grand Rapids Chefs that were being featured on the very first GR Chopped .  I had the privilege of being able to sit with Chef Jenna's friend that evening and let me just tell you, her tribe is the ride of die kind.  If I knew nothing else about her, the love that her tribe has for her would have shown me what a remarkable woman and impact she has had on this world. Later that night, as I got to know Chef Jenna and her tribe over cocktails at a local restaurant, I felt truly honored to be sitting at a table with so many people, that have had so much impact for good in the world!  That night for me was truly a blessing and a huge part of why I got started with this podcast.   Jenna has become widely known for how huge heart and helping hand in the community and has been honored on several occasions for her efforts in trying to make this world a better place, one food hug at a time. Normally, Chef Jenna is the one making sure everyone else is taken care of so it was amazing to see that she was recognized with a check for $10,000 and featured on Mike Rowe's show, Returning the Favor!  During this time of Corona, many of the restaurants are in serious trouble of closing and we talk about the ramifications that this has had not only with the virus but with the rioting as well.  The hard truth of the matter, if we don’t support our Local Restaurants now they may not be around tomorrow.  Amore is one of the restaurants that have chosen not to open until they can be at full capacity due to the high costs of operations it takes to keep the inside up and running for the public.  They are and will continue to stay open for pick up until then.   After living in Italy for 3 years and spending time in the kitchen with her new mother in law, her passion for Italian Casalinga cuisine grew stronger. Jenna worked for small businesses, corporations and also tried few of her own small entrepreneurial ideas. She finally realized it was time to take the leap and open Amore Trattoria Italiana in 2010. Her dream was to bring back the mom & pop feel by using locally sourced products and meeting her guests in the dining room much like dinner at home. Jenna and Maurizio are proud of their award-winning business and their 9 years of serving the West Michigan community. Please show Chef Jenna & our amazing Local Restaurants some love by supporting them now more than ever! I wanted to give another big shout out to Nothing Bundt Cakes as Chef Jenna said they were another local bakery shop spreading Kindness & Love with Cakes during these uncertain times!  To Show Chef Jenna & Amore or Nothing Bundt Cake,  go to:Amore trattoria italiana 5080 Alpine Ave. NWComstock Park, MI 4932616-785-5344 For Menu: http://amoretrattoriaitaliana.com/To Order:Nothing Bundt Cakes5121 28th St SEGrand Rapids, MI 49512(616) 734-6995nothingbundtcakes.comFor More information or Become a Part of Our Mission: One Tribe RisingDustin Wheelerdustin@onetriberising.comSupport the show

The Man Behind the Mask of Michael Myers - w/ James Jude Courtney
I had the honor of meeting James Jude Courtney when I picked him up in my Uber about two years ago.  There was an instant heart connection and we got very deep into a very conscious conversation quite quickly.  When I discovered that he was the actor that played Michael Myers in the New Halloween movies, my mouth hit the floor.  I knew that if he could go to far into depth on energy, unconditional love and be so disciplined in practicing non-judgement that I definitely needed to know more about him.  High Level Bio:James Jude Courtney is an American actor, stunt double, and stunt performer. He is best known for playing Michael Myers in the 2018 film Halloween. He also played Der Kindestod in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode "Killed by Death".When I was researching him I had the pleasure of learning about some of the other disciplines he had studied and very much wanted to know how these played a part in the American Legend Horror Figure, Michael Myers. After two years of keeping in touch, we were finally able to come together to have that deeper conversation.  My hope is it is the beginning of many.  So join me as I welcome James Jude Courtney and join us in our conversation about getting to know the Man Behind the Mask. Unpacking What the Hard Work Looks Like - Carlson Ngong & Derrick Chia
I met these two amazing men downtown on Saturday, the night of the peaceful protest in Grand Rapids, MI.  They were some of the voices in the episode “The Voices of Many” and their messages were powerful and based from a value of Love & Compassion.  Derrick is an epidemiologist for Ottawa county and Carlson is a Scrum Master in the Information Technology department at Meijer. We have a unique perspective growing up with an outside view of America but now living the reality of being a black immigrant male in America. We start by discussing some of the very real things that are happening to our brothers and sisters of color and we begin by opening the door to recognizing our knee jerk reactions and how best to take a pause before acting from a place of anger and fear, and how together we can begin to come from a place of Love & Understanding Together.   Join us as we dive into how to go about having these difficult conversations that can shine the light on how to move us forward in a direction of Love & Belonging for us all.     No doubt in my head and in my heart that I was let to these two for a reason.  We hope to show you how we can carry the right messages forward and also an example of how to having these hard conversations.  They give us a way in how we can move into action for those that know it’s time to go to work.   Also, here is the article  that was referenced from President Obama. https://medium.com/@BarackObama/how-to-make-this-moment-the-turning-point-for-real-change-9fa209806067For More information or Become a Part of Our Mission:One Tribe RisingDustin Wheelerdustin@onetriberising.comSupport the show

From the Voices of Many...- Live Before & After Downtown GR Riot
I also had the honor of being able to go Downtown, Grand Rapids to talk to several people who were protesting in solidarity for George Floyd that agreed to do an interview with me. A special thanks to all of you. Even though all recordings didn’t make it on this due to technical difficulties your vulnerability in speaking from your heart is appreciated and honored.  This was the crowd that was there before the group that showed up around 9:00pm starting becoming destructive and violent.  My heart aches that this protest started falling apart and with it the message of Unity that had been carried so strongly within the crowd earlier.  I hope we all can take a pause and lean in on our empathy and compassion to find a better message we can carry forward.  We share many faces, voices and perspectives but they come from the heart and that has to be the place we start from.  I was able to interview with some amazing people that came to show in the face of destruction to help bring a better message forward.   To all my hand over the heart people, you know who you are. Special Thanks to :  Amelia & Courtney, Vanessa & Mishayla, Marcus Thomas, Snow Globe, New Renaissance Tristan, Carlson, Derik, Abdul, Charity, Shannon, & Hannah, Cassandra, Graham Talbott, Ben Aparicio, Construction Workers, Chris, (Marketing Director Local Restaurants) Beltline Bar, Sundance Grill, Michigan Street Bagel Beanery, Rockwell Republic, Amore, Chloe, Cody & Isabella, Darius Collins, Dominic Alverez Photography, Jeeto Music, Kotie, Denavvia Mojet, Grand Rapids Fire Department, Daryl Smith, Colin Wever, Captain America, Beckham, McKenna, Tanner, Braden, Ethan, Jenny Mazurkiewicz, Lyneette Covich, Rowan Schaps, MIX East Grand Rapids, Tara Dolinger, Delanie, Brando & Breezy, and to everyone else that showed up today in a helpful way to move us forward in a better way together.  For More information or Become a Part of Our Mission:One Tribe RisingDustin Wheelerdustin@onetriberising.com Support the show (http://www.patreon.com/onetriberising)Support the show

Stronger Together
In today's short episode I talk about a very moving story from Gary Vee about the power of working together as a team and how much more we can accomplish together.  As technology grows, we become more and more separate from each other  and closer to machines we hold in our hand adopting a more "ME" focused mindset.  However, what if the team mindset was just what we needed to adopt to take on our really big challenges?  This community mindset, not only allows us to start looking as individuals as intrical parts of the whole, but it also allows us to start working together towards a common goal increasing our chances of winning exponentially.  In order to work as a successful team, we must also get to know what our strengths are and the strengths of those we are working with.  With the knowledge we connect on a higher level of knowing and understanding of how we can best work towards the good of the whole.  I often wonder, with an education system that does not seem to support teaching the vital things that will help an individual not only to survive, but thrive in today's advanced society could this be an opportunity to speak more about teamwork on a higher community level.  In creating this type of joined effort, I also have to ask would this type of teaching and training together fill in some of that loneliness that is causing so much damage and depression in our society today.  So ask yourself, how can you use this mentality to start working together as a team with the ones you are surround yourself with.  What are your strengths, what are the strengths of those around you, and what common intention can you start working together towards today?Support the show
