 On November 10, 2019, the CBC published a news article discussing fraudulent phone number ports. The focus of the story revolved around a Rogers customer who was the victim of attempted extortion when fraudsters successfully ported his number to a prepaid Bell account and accessed sensitive files stored on the cloud. Customers may come in or call with questions or concerns about how TELUS protects them from fraudulent ports. Assure customers that TELUS takes the privacy and security of our customers seriously. This is why we introduced new SMS notifications to help reduce fraudulent port out requests in July 2019. The notifications give those who may be a victim of fraud or an error the chance to contact the Port Administration Center (PAC) for immediate assistance. TELUS is also working with the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) to implement industry-wide solutions to help prevent fraudulent ports. If the customer has any questions or concerns about their privacy, refer them to the Privacy Request Centre toll free number 1-800-567-0000 or privacy@telus.com
