Episode Two: Gerrymandering
Hello! After a long hiatus, we're back! On today's episode, we have a first! I brought in a good friend of mine, Luke, to discuss all things gerrymandering. Him and I both believe this is one of the more pressing, overlooked issues currently, as gerrymandering occurs after the U.S. Census and can have impacts for 10 years or more. We start out by discussing Luke's masters program on political advocacy and what can be achieved with that degree. Next, we go onto gerrymandering- what it is, the history, the legality, current examples, and why we both agree gerrymandering sets back the political process and does more harm than good. We wrap up the show discussing the current efforts to end partisan gerrymandering here in Minnesota, talk about the groups behind it, and how you can get involved! This was a tough show to record, because a lot of gerrymandering can be easier understood with images, so below are some links to what we were discussing in the show!Click here for a brief overview of gerrymandering, including a lot of helpful diagrams.
