Elections in Bosna and Sava Will Determine Leadership Roles for the Platform
Elections in the regions of Bosna and Sava will determine leadership positions in those regions. Another sign of the growth for the Platform for Progress since its inception in 2018. However, as Mirsad Hadžkadić president of the Platform for Progress told me during our recent conversation, this process in itself is posing its own set of challenges. We also spoke about how these challenges in addition to the continued internal strife which must be addressed, are taking valuable time away from the strategizing for the 2022 presidential elections.

The Growing Pains of Democracy
As the Platform for Progress continues to address internal personnel issues that have arisen since the local elections in November 2020, it is becoming even more evident that many of these issues are being spawned as a result of a young and growing democratic movement. And with growth comes the dynamic of new challenges. Mirsad Hadžikadić, the president of the Platform, and I spoke about these ongoing issues, the challenges that must be addressed, and at the same time balance efforts to begin preparing for the presidential elections in 2022.

Turbulent Times for the Platform for Progress
The Platform for Progress continues to struggle with internal strife that has been plaguing the organization since the local elections back in November. The president of the Platform, Mirsad Hadžikadić, says it has become very apparent that outsiders have infiltrated the ranks of the organization resulting in infighting, changing allegiances, defaming posts about himself and questions about who to trust these days. Mirsad and I spoke about these troubling times and what can be done as it tries to prepare for its annual convention coming up later in the month.

Preparations Are Underway for the Annual Convention of the Platform for Progress
The Platform for Progress is diligently preparing for its annual convention, which is coming up in February. This includes rewriting the current bylaws to better reflect the goals and missions of the Platform following lessons learned during the recent local elections across the country. The new bylaws will then be presented during the convention and voted upon by the delegates. Mirsad Hadzikadic, the president of the Platform for Progress, openly admits these are very challenging times for the Platform as it addresses everything from internal personnel issues, to voter fraud allegations in Mostar.

There Will Be No Recount of the Votes in Mostar
Following the local election in Mostar in November there was clear evidence of fraud, votes being stolen. The Platform for Progress filed a grievance with the Bosnian Central Electoral Commission, making it aware of the situation and asking for a recount. However, the commission passed on the grievance to the Supreme Court of Bosnia, which turned down that request. This, as we hear from Mirsad Hadzikadic the president of the Platform, despite documentation of votes being stolen, and in the majority of the cases from Platform for Progress candidates. We spoke about the dilemma and what, if anything, can be done.

Challenging Times Lie Ahead for the Platform for Progress
Hopes were running high for the Platform for Progress following the local elections in November as there were clear signs that the Platform was indeed becoming a political force, a power broker, in Bosnian politics. However, events of recent have cast a bit of a shadow on the new enthusiasm as the strategizing for the 2022 general elections had already begun. There were already plans underway to restructure some of the personnel within the Platform, which in itself was causing some personnel issues. However, one of the top members of the presidential governing board handed in his resignation as well as some other members of the Platform. There has been a defection by at least one Platform member who was elected to a city council seat. And with all of this the mudslinging against Mirsad and the Platform has begun in earnest both internally and externally. I recently spoke with Mirsad about these troubling and challenging times and what lies ahead.

The Strategizing Begins for the 2022 General Elections
With the local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina now over the Platform for Progress has begun in earnest its planning and strategizing for the 2022 general elections. For Mirsad Hadzikadić, president of the Platform for Progress, and the members of his team they now have the luxury of having been through one general election and the local elections. They can look at what did and did not work as they plan for the future. Over the last 2 1/2 years the Platform has established itself as a political force, and with that the growing pains that come with it. Mirsad and I spoke about the most recent meeting of the presidential governing board as it looks forward to the 2022 presidential election and what needs to be done.

Reports of Widespread Fraud During the Mostar Elections
The Platform for Progress had hoped to pick up at least two of the 35 available city council seats during the local elections in Mostar. Mirsad Hadzikadić, president of the Platform for Progress, said this would have been a remarkable accomplishment for such a young political party in this ethnically divided city that had not seen a local election for 12 years. However, it was not to be. During my recent conversation with Hadzikadić, he said the reports of and evidence of unprecedented fraud that occurred throughout the process made that dream impossible.

Excitement Grows as the Local Elections in Mostar Near
For the first time in 12 years, citizens in the city of Mostar will be headed to the polls to elect city council members. For the last several week’s candidates from the Platform for Progress have been involved with an aggressive grassroots campaigning strategy. Getting out, walking the streets, meeting and greeting the citizens of the city. The president of the Platform, Mirsad Hadzikadic, has walked with each of the candidates vying for city council seats. We spoke just three days prior to the election about its significance for the city and the country as well. And the interesting dynamic that the Platform, due to its growth and popularity, is now becoming a political powerbroker.

Newly Elected Platform Candidates Gather to Discuss Strategies Moving Forward
Newly elected Platform for Progress candidates who will serve on city council seats across Bosnia and Herzegovina recently gathered together to discuss their recent victories and to plan strategies moving forward. As Mirsad Hadzikadic told me in our recent discussion, they are all now learning the nuances of now being an elected official, their responsibilities to the citizens of those towns and of course the Platform as a whole. We also spoke about the ongoing campaign for council seat candidates in upcoming elections in Mostar.

The Campaign Period Officially Begins in Mostar
For the first time in twelve years, voters in Mostar will be headed to the polls on December, 20th. The city once represented a true melting pot of the cultures that have existed in the country for centuries, where Serbs, Croats and Muslims lived together harmoniously. However, since the war, the city has been culturally divided. On November 26th I spoke with Mirsad Hadzikadic, the president of the Platform for Progress, about the significance of this historical event and the upcoming campaign for Platform members who will be running for office Predizborna kampanja zvanično počinje u Mostaru Po prvi put u dvanaest godina, glasači u Mostaru će se uputiti ka biračkim mjestima 20. decembra. 30.11.2020. Results of the Local Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina Are In
Voter turnout for the November 15th, local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina was very low. Most attribute that to the combination of voter apathy and COVID-19. For the Platform for Progress, it was able to secure council seats in 15 cities across the country, though none of the mayoral candidates could claim victory. It’s still, as Mirsad Hadzikadic, president of the Platform for Progress, told me a great step in the right direction as sites now switch to the local elections in Mostar on December 20th and of course the general election in 2022 Pristigli su rezultati lokalnih izbora u Bosni i Hercegovini Izlaznost na lokalne izbore u Bosni i Hercegovini 15. novembra bila je vrlo niska. Mnogi to pripisuju kombinaciji apatije glasačkog tijela i pandemiji COVID-19. 19.11.2020. Enthusiasm High as the Local Elections Near
The campaigning by Platform for Progress candidates has intensified as the local elections grow near. For Mirsad Hadzikadic, the president of the Platform, the days have been long and grueling. He visits four to five towns or cities daily to introduce the candidates for mayor and city council seats across the country and urging the locals to get out and vote. We spoke about the growing excitement within the Platform as election day nears. He seemed to beam when discussing how the young, those candidates who are 30 or younger, have demonstrated their continued passion and unwavering commitment to making a difference and taking the country in a new direction Entuzijazam raste kako se približavaju lokalni izbori Kampanja kandidata Platforme za progres dobila je na intenzitetu kako se približavaju lokalni izbori. 09.11.2020. The Campaigning Begins in Earnest in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Platform for Progress mayoral and town hall candidates have officially hit the campaign trail across Bosnia and Herzegovina. For Mirsad Hadzikadic, the president of the Platform, this means traveling to each of the cites where it has candidates on the ballot for him to officially introduce them at preplanned events. I spoke with Hadzikadic regarding the formal kickoff event for the campaign on October 18 and the general mood of the candidates as they enter into this historic time in their lives as well as the country Ozbiljan početak predizborne kampanje u Bosni i Hercegovini Kandidati za gradonačelnike/načelnike i gradske vijećnike Platforme za progres zvanično su počeli sa predizbornom kampanjom širom Bosne i Hercegovine. Much still has to be done as the local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina are just over one month away. However, Mirsad Hadzikadic the president of the Platform for Progress, and his team are already looking ahead and beginning preparations for the presidential election in 2022. Mirsad and I spoke about many of the ongoing issues facing the Platform with the local elections just over a month away and the fact they are already looking ahead to 2022. The Preparations and Strategizing for the Local Elections Have Reached a Feverish Pace
With the local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina now some six weeks away the preparations and strategizing are now all-consuming for members of the Platform for Progress and the candidates who will be running for mayorships and city council seats. I spoke once again with Mirsad Hadzikadic, the president of the Platform in Charlotte, the day before his return to Sarajevo. We spoke about all of the ongoing preparations for the local elections which are even more consuming this time around by the mere fact of the number of candidates who will be running across the country. 01.10.2020. Overseeing the Voting During the Coming Local Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina
As was the case in the presidential election in 2018, the Platform for Progress will have representatives on many of the election boards that are being assembled to oversee the voting process at the voting precincts across the country on election day. However, the inherent corruption that exists as part of that process is rearing its ugly head once again. When Mirsad Hadzikadić, the president of the Platform, and I spoke here in Charlotte, North Carolina, he discussed how his team is navigating its way through the process as the local elections are now scheduled for November 15. He also took the time to discuss how the political climate both in Montenegro and Belarus is having a direct influence on Bosnia and Herzegovina Nadgledanje glasanja tokom predstojećih lokalnih izbora u Bosni i Hercegovini Kao što je bio slučaj i na predsjedničkim izborima 2018. godine, Platforma za progres imat će predstavnike u mnogim biračkim odborima koji se formiraju kako bi nadgledali proces glasanja na biračkim mjestima u cijeloj zemlji na dan izbora. 24.09.2020. Introducing the Candidates Running for Mayorships and City Council Seats
The list of the Platform for Progress candidates who will be running for office in the local elections on November 15th has been finalized. With some three weeks before the official campaign period begins the Platform is now taking the opportunity, primarily through social media, to introduce the candidates to the citizens of the cities, towns and municipalities where they will be running for office. I had the opportunity to speak with Mirsad Hadzikadic, the president of the Platform for Progress, in person for the first time in several months as he is in Charlotte, North Carolina for a few weeks for meetings at the university and to visit with family, friends and colleagues. 17.09.2020. The Political Climate and Media Blockade Continue to Pose Challenges for the Platform for Progress
The political landscape and ongoing media blockade of the Platform for Progress in Bosnia and Herzegovina continue to pose challenges. Mirsad Hadzikadič, the president of the Platform, and I recently spoke at length about, why, in his words, things continue to remain status quo as they have for so many years. He shared his thoughts on why, how to strategically address these challenges, and at the same time not be swayed off course in their efforts to bring about change and reform to the country. 10.09.2020.
