As we spoke on the phone and I was helping him through his question, I realized this was a great question that many people run into. I also happened to like my answer to him and thought that others could benefit as well. As a result, this episode was born... In each one of these statements, the individual is blaming everything their emotional state based on something that happened to them. In short, they are a victim of every event of their life... It's a very limiting place to be and I don't know anyone that is actually happy in that space. In fact, they are often miserable because they feel so out of control. How can this be corrected? Mind Over Your Matters #047 The Power of Your True Identity Lately, I have been seeing a lot of people that are struggling with their true identity. Since it isn't their "true" identity of who they really are, they have a perception of a false perception that is shaping many of their actions and it is creating a limitation in their life. They come in with identities such as "I am not able to do that" or "I am broken." These kinds of identities create a perception where they hold back, and they do not do what they are really capable of. There is nothing that bothers me more than seeing people who limit themselves. Helping people change this is my life work and what I love more than anything. During this episode, I give you plenty of tips on how to identify what your identity truly is and why you need to get rid of these false identities to really achieve your greatest potential. There was an interesting survey that was done (and I reference it in this episode) that showed that the number one barrier that kept people from making the changes they desired was that their "willpower wasn't strong enough." When you feel discouraged that you just can't seem to force yourself to do something different, there is hope. Mind Over Your Matters #044 Can Hypnotherapy Address Medical Conditions?Is it possible for certain medical conditions to be effectively addressed using hypnotherapy? The simple answer is yes, but as with any kind of healing modality, there are limits. Hypnotherapy is certainly no exception. However, there is one kind of medical condition that hypnotherapy almost exclusively addresses... Psychosomatic illnesses or conditions. What does that mean? Psychosomatic means that a condition is mentally induced. Why would our mind create an illness or condition when there is nothing physically wrong? Well, on this episode you will hear a lot of different examples that I have seen in my practice as I work with people. Here's a quick example that you have probably experienced at some point in your life: Have you ever seen or heard someone throw up? If you have, you probably started feeling nauseous shortly after. Why is that? You were feeling just fine before. This is a prime example of a psychosomatic condition. This is just one fast example of something that is psychosomatic because it is completely generated by the mind. Yes, there are physical symptoms, but the cause of it exists in the mind. There is nothing physically wrong with you. These are the kinds of things that hypnotherapy addresses well. Mind Over Your Matters #042 How To Overcome PTSDDo you know someone that struggles with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)? If so, you will find this episode of the Mind Over Your Matters podcast very enlightening. This episode came about as a result of a listener requesting some information about how hypnotherapy can address PTSD. Thanks for the request! Let's talk about how to overcome PTSD. When people struggle with PTSD, they each experience it differently. Some people speak about having constant nightmares as they sleep, that they cannot control their thoughts, or that they have these traumatic scenes that just keep flashing through their mind that they cannot turn off. I have also had clients tell me about recurring physical pains that occur due to the result of the PTSD. Even though symptoms of PTSD may be different, the pattern that causes it in the mind is fairly similar. In the industry, we call it a sensitization. So, in this podcast episode, I detail how this sensitization process happens and what makes it turn into PTSD. I also describe how we use hypnosis as a tool to address what is happening with this. I also explain how to turn off the sensitization so that it no longer has any power over your mind. Disclaimer: I am not a doctor. I do not treat people, diagnose anything, or prescribe anything. So, everything that I talk about in this episode has to do with the behaviors that I help people with. It is not medically based. It is based on experience of working with others and patterns I have observed. Why do I mention that? Because medical opinions on PTSD vary greatly and there are many different opinions about it. Mind Over Your Matters #039 Freedom From Anxiety Many people experience anxiety as they feel uncertain about an upcoming event. Especially if that event is something significant like a job change, moving, an interview, or a performance. In fact, the "anxiety" that you feel in those moments can actually work towards your favor to improve your performance. However, when you feel anxiety on a day-to-day basis and it is keeping you from doing what you want to do in life, that is when you must address it head on. That is why this episode is all about freedom from anxiety and how that happens. I do a lot of work with people that have struggled with anxiety. It is a lot of fun to watch them find peace and calm after having struggled for a long time. It is a powerful transformation that happens quickly, often right before your eyes. This is a question that you need to answer to improve your own well being and health. As I work with clients as a hypnotherapist, many of them have already been down the traditional methods of treating what they are struggling to change. They have seen doctors, worked with therapists, taken medication, and many other methods to try and overcome what is holding them back. Recently, I was speaking to a mother about her 12 year old daughter that was struggling with anxiety. As I talked to her, her daughter had seen several psychologists over a 3 year period. They had tested many different medications and nothing was working. As we talked, the mother was really not open to having her daughter work with me because I was not a psychologist. I didn't say it, but in my mind, all I could think was, "How can you keep doing more of what is not working?!?! When are you going to do something else?" If I were struggling to overcome something, I would keep working and moving forward until I had it figured out. That is really the whole point of today's episode...
