The Meaning of Metallica -Ride the lyrics. Heavy Metal Professor William Irwin shares insight on his new book, the first to ever focus exclusively on their lyrics of Metallica.
More than 40 years since their formation, and 125 million album sales later, Metallica is as relevant as ever. Much has been written about the band, but never like this. The Meaning of Metallica is like a riveting conversation with a close friend. A thematic tour de force that traces Hetfield’s lyrical development across the decades, this companion examines everything from deep cuts like “Confusion” to megahits like “Enter Sandman.” Sure to spark debate and discussion, The Meaning of Metallica provides a close reading of lyrics dense with details and rich with allusions. William Irwin is Herve A. LeBlanc Distinguished Service Professor and Chair of Philosophy at King's College, Pennsylvania. Irwin is best known for having originated the philosophy and popular culture genre of books with Seinfeld and Philosophy (1999), The Simpsons and Philosophy (2001), and The Matrix and Philosophy (2002). In 2006, became the General Editor of The Blackwell Philosophy and Pop Culture Series, which includes Metallica and Philosophy (2007) and Black Sabbath and Philosophy (2012), among other volumes.   Comments on the book or this interview? MAD BUTCHER-1980’s German band reunion gig. GRAVEHUFFER-2010’s Sludge doom band craft a killer sound.
This weeks show we have a bit of "OLD SCHOOL " and "NEW SCHOOL "  to profile. MAD BUTCHER from Germany and GRAVEHUFFER from Joplin, Missouri. MAD BUTCHER After 30 years, German Heavy Metal Band MAD BUTCHER will hold a exclusive reunion gig in Oberhausen, Germany to commemorate the 40 year anniversary of the band.  Vocalist " METAL HARRY" (Harry Elbracht) Joins us to share a bit about the band and how this reunion came about. The gig features 3 of the 4 original members and will revisit music from 1985's Metal Lightning Attack, 1987's  Metal Meat and the 2020 For Adults Only Release. https://www.facebook.com/Mad-Butcher-German-Heavy-Metal-Band-112084134312153 GRAVEHUFFER Since their inception in 2008, GRAVEHUFFER has crafted their sound into an other-worldly amalgamation of Crust, Punk, Metal, Grindcore, and unapologetic down-tuned Sludge-laden Doom. Without ever making a conscious effort to do so, the Joplin, Missouri band proudly shuns the confines of genre confinements and so-called rules for the sake of the music itself and their collective creative output. Guitarist Ritchie Randall joins us to discuss the bands history , how they craft their unique sound, as well as fun collaborations with "Chewy" from VOIVOD, Curran Murphy from ANNIAHLATOR and Tommy Stewart from HALLOWS EVE. Rounding out the lineup is Travis McKenzie on vocals, Mike Jilge on bass, and Jay Willis on drums. Gravehuffer steers clear of trends and limits by being themselves and letting the music take them where it wants to go. They are now currently signed with Black Doomba Records, and are on tour  promoting their new album "NecroEclosion". https://gravehuffer.bandcamp.com/ https://www.facebook.com/gravehuffer   Metal Mayhem ROC Links  https://metalmayhemroc.com/ https://metaldevastationradio.com/ https://metalmayhemroc.podbean.com https://twitter.com/MetalmayhemR https://www.facebook.com/groups/metalmayhemroc

History of Metal-1986 - Best metal songs of all time? Hair Nation vs Thrash, Van Hagar vs DLR. Is the British Invasion Over?
On this week’s episode we dissect the metal landscape in 1986. This is the most ground breaking year in the 80s metal explosion. The biggest divorce in rock history plays out in front of our naked steaming eyes as VAN HAGAR AND DAVID LEE ROTH release post breakup debut albums. The Hair Nation scene is at the top of the charts with BON JOVI, CINDERELLA, POISON and EUROPE all over the metal mags and MTV. The thrash and underground scenes are becoming mainstream with METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and METAL CHURCH taking their spot at the metal table.
