Eye surgeon turned writer Shibal Bhartiya

Shibal Bhartiya is an eye surgeon who has transformed lives through her expertise in India.  She also is the founder of Vision Unlimited, a bootstrap social organisation, involved in skill transfer, disaster relief, food security and health care access.

Apart from a million prescriptions, she regularly writes up randomised control trials on glaucoma for medical journals, and contributes to major textbooks of ophthalmology. However, that’s not all, her other writing consists of notes to herself, her son’s football coach as well as for her first book. While being largely autobiographical, Bena's Summer mixes the deeply personal with momentous societal changes of the near past. It is, as they would say, an intimate account of a small, compelling history.
