Mach Zero Podcast #27: The Brevity of Life Dear High Level Performer, Do you ever feel you're wasting too much time? Do you find yourself waiting on things to line up to initiate creating an important goal or dream? We all at times fall off and forget to remember what really does matter. Our priorities get run amuck by distactions and stuff. I'll bet you wonder what you'll say about your life when you look back on how you lived and what lived you. What will your report card look like? Will your choices have gotten you near what mattered to you? Will you have grabbed all that can be learned from your experiences? What is inevitable is everything did change. And even expectations we had weren't fulfilled, because life isn't meant to meet them. So here's a question to ask yourself: "If you could not be sure that what you're doing will bear fruit, why would you do it?" If there is no place for hope, nor fear, why would you do what you're doing? I asked forty people this question, and here's the most common answer: "I don't know, I'd be dead if I didn't." Their leadership couldn't guarantee them the world would shift, or whether their future would become the grandiose hopes they had, but fundamentally, their urge to lead was because what they do day in day out matters, and it is to be done for it's own sake!" What staggers me is I've asked hundreds of creators why they do what they do and their answer is most often: "I don't know, I just know I need to do what I'm do, it's not a decision, it's a must." Mach Zero Podcast #25: Dancing With the Boogeyman FEAR is the dreamer's leech! We all have it. We are scared because we care not to hurt ourselves. Fear is a noble instrument for caution and protection. However, fear can ambush, neutralize, and undermine our creative process. Fear of humiliation, fear of failure, fear of death, fear of losing control, fear of whatever we predict might just be around the corner....we are afraid of our fear. And we should be because it is so super-normally alluring and distracting. So what do we do? We learn to relate with fear in a different way. We turn toward it and de-activate it as an issue for us. I'll show you how. And the example I'll use is Freddy Krueger and Nightmare on Elm Street. You might not think so, but it was loaded with great lessons about how to defeat, learn from and make fear a greater resource, and teacher. Ever danced with the Boogeyman? Mach Zero Podcast #21: "Accessing Radical Creativity" Learn how to Access the Places of Most Potential We live a life, as we create a life. We evolve as we create, as both chess master and chess piece. Both happen simultaneously. JD discusses how to increase both creative processes simultaneously by setting and committing to a meaningful intention, and giving special attention to one's quality of attention. These two in combination bring concentration and mindfulness together as powerful creative capacities. One is self-made (motivated internally) and the other is inspired by life's context (inspired from outside). The creative process is a rich fusion of both in tandem, as the future is learned by doing. What short circuits these capacities are three usual suspects: 1) Our level of distraction from what matters; majoring in minor stuff 2) Trusting our voice of judgment when it goes live while still unchecked 3) Our voices of fear and cynicism that undermine courage and connection Is there a manual override switch? JD suggests that we can cultivate our capacity to dominate our actions by what matters to us as the centerpiece. But to gather what really does matter and operate from that place, we must open our mind, heart, and will to sources of creative content that our experiences reveal to us as we live into the future and unfold what is ready to emerge. We establish and refine three key aspects constantly: 1) Our creative freedom to access our future self, 2) Our creative value to access how others can connect us to our capacity for compassion, understanding, and generosity, and 3) Our creative purpose to access the destiny which stands in need of us. We align the vertical connection (self), with the horizontal connection (other) and the present moment connection (whole) to access the places of most potential where are being informs our doing. This is creating from places where our most basic goodness can expand and go where it belongs in the world. RESEARCH STUDY on Business Leaders Being Too Busy. One of the toughest struggles for business leaders is just how caught up they are in being so busy; they can't get anything to make them a lot less busy. They set a goal, then other things outlaw, ambush, and neutralize their resolve. It makes them reluctant to even set goals or put the effort in when the crazy-busy world is parachuting into their life. We keep kicking the can down the road on our aspirations, callings, dreams, and defining moments until later. And we aren't any less busy later than we are now. So over the last 5 years, I took a closer look at hundreds of cases where business leaders felt overwhelmed, and what they, themselves, were thinking and doing to cause it, and what they could do different, to love their lives and live more creatively, on-purpose. This presentation is a one-hour talk called "Don't Kick the Can Down the Road Again". I discuss my best findings on this subject and ways to change it, not using human potential tricks or approaches, but solid behavior-based focusing strategies that get to the fundamental level of shifting to living in a creative orientation. As you hear it, please write down what you notice, what inspires you, touches, or moves you. Please share it with loved ones, colleagues and friends who are suffering from this flu called "over-busy", they are living the unlived life.
