LA Calling #16 - Monique Verdin
We had the pleasure of traveling deep into St. Bernard Parish to visit the documentarian and activist Monique Verdin.  Monique recently returned from the climate summit in Paris and she discusses with us the dire environmental situation Louisiana faces and how it connects to issues being fought on a global scale.  In addition we talk about her Land Memory and Seed Bank project as well as some of the history and challenges facing the United Houma Nation of which she is a member. If you love the show send some of it to the Lost Bayou Ramblers who created our theme song, Bastille.

LA Calling #15 - An Evening with Yvonne Bechet
This is an unusual show for us as it is actually a conversation between two people who are not your hosts...although Bruce did record this and Eliot did ask a question from the audience.  This episode was recorded on 3 December 2015 and it was a fundraiser for a new theatrical production about the life of Yvonne Bechet.  Ms. Bechet was one of the first three African-American women to serve in the New Orleans police department and she rose to its second highest rank.  She recounts tales of racial and gender integration, working undercover drug busts, creating programs to prevent crime and balancing all this with the raising of children (with a gun range in her house).  This conversation is between Ms. Bechet and the instigator behind this production, Mat Schwarzmen.   If you'd like to support this production please consider giving to their Kickstarter Campaign.  The campaign ends on 3 January 2016. As usual, give some love to the Lost Bayou Ramblers, creators of our theme song, "Bastille."

LA Calling #13 - Dr. Jill Stein
In case the press has worked its magic on you, there are more than Democrats and Republicans running to be the next president of the United States.  We had the honor and the pleasure of spending some time talking with Green Party presidential candidate Dr. Jill Stein.  She gives us her diagnosis of what is happening to us as a nation and in our particular state.  We've had the pleasure of hearing her speak several times in Louisiana over the last few years and every time she speaks she's full of energy, ideas and direction and we got another dose of that on this show.  No matter your party affiliation, we hope you enjoy the discussion.   As always, check out the makers of our theme music, "Bastille," the Lost Bayou Ramblers.

LA Calling #12 - Pamela Davis-Noland
When we sat down with Pamela she thought there was no way she was going to have enough to say to fill a whole hour.  Much to her surprise the hour flew by and we wished we had more time to hear her stories. Pamela Davis Noland is an author and playwright who originally hails from west Louisiana, but was drawn to the city of New Orleans where she knew she would be a writer.  Our theme music is "Bastille" by the Lost Bayou Ramblers.

LA Calling #11 - Josh Fauver
We continue our education focused series of interviews by chatting with writer and student Josh Fauver.  He is a politically active LA native who we first met during Eliot's run for congress.  It was an interesting discussion about the state of higher education, political philosophy and the ideas of a young mind you're sure to hear from more in the future (he's already said he'll be running for office in the state one day). Thanks Lost Bayou Ramblers for the theme music.
