Programming Endurance & Debunking Myths: Part 2 w/ Jacob Benny
In this episode of the Lit to Lift Podcast, Matty sits down with Jacob to discuss the wide variety of things to consider when constructing your own endurance program, such as volume, intensity, frequency, style of training and so on (whether it be for a team or individual sport). Future episodes will cover these details more specifically, but we wanted to lay down a general framework first to give y'all a sense of what you're working with. We also segway into a conversation surrounding some common myths in the endurance world (such as the so-called benefits of foam rolling and stretching and the idea that lifting makes you slow). As always, if you enjoyed this episode, please leave a five star rating and review on iTunes and share it with your friends and family. Matty is on instagram as @matty_liftz. Thanks for tuning in!

Programming Endurance & Philosophizing about Soccer: Part 1 w/ Jacob Benny
In this episode of the Lit to Lift Podcast, Matty sits down with Jacob to discuss the wide variety of things to consider when constructing your own endurance program, such as volume, intensity, frequency, style of training and so on (whether it be for a team or individual sport). Future episodes will cover these details more specifically, but we wanted to lay down a general framework first to give y'all a sense of what you're working with. Then, we segway into a conversation surrounding technical and tactical development in youth soccer. Apologies for the audio in this episode. There are birds chirping in the background (some people might like that though lol) and my computer overheated in the last few minutes of the podcast. Audio will be better next time, cause we won't record outside. As always, if you enjoyed this episode, please leave a five star rating and review on iTunes and share it with your friends and family. Evading the Grim Reaper of Gains: Overtraining (& Nonfunctional Overreaching)
In this episode of the Lit to Lift podcast, Matty and Claudia sit down to discuss overtraining syndrome (OTS) and nonfunctional overreaching. We cover the differences between the two conditions, signs and symptoms of OTS and nonfunctional overreaching, and practical ways to prevent OTS and nonfunctional overreaching. If it's not clear in the podcast, we want to point out that most people are not overtraining and, in fact, most people should be training more. However, there are some individuals that push themselves to the extreme and can cause serious damage to themselves. So, even if you aren't overtraining, hopefully you can learn about this issue and pass this information to someone who might need it. Claudia Helmick (M.S. Sport & Exercise Science) is a personal trainer(certified through NASM & ACE) as well as a certified massage therapist(CMT). She is a nationally ranked powerlifter and has been powerlifting for over 30 years, she has had extensive experience in bodybuilding being a former nationally ranked bodybuilder, and she has been training athletes for over 20 years. Finding Reliable Information, Pain, COVID-19, and much more...
In this episode of the Lit to Lift podcast, Nick takes us on a rant about the current pandemic and we give our very humble opinions on best practices to mitigate the future detrimental effects of the disease. We then discuss how our training has changed and whether high reps are okay for muscle growth. Finally, the conversation winds down with the topic of pain. We discuss psychosocial influences on the pain experience, the subjective nature of pain, and the near impossibility of finding an objective measure of pain. If you found value in this episode, please leave a five star rating and review and share it with your friends and family. As always, the validity of our statements are limited by our own knowledge and experience. We are not experts in epidemiology, infectious disease, and pain, but we enjoy talking about these things. If you find evidence which contradicts our claims, that's great! Please send it to us, so we're no longer ignorant moving forward.
