In a world consumed by busyness and distractions, it's easy to overlook the value of spending time with Jesus. Just like Martha in the biblical story, we often find ourselves caught up in the demands of life, missing out on the best part. But there's a lesson to be learned from Mary, who recognized the power that comes from sitting at Jesus' feet and feasting on His words. One particular visit by Jesus to Mary and Martha's house is recorded in Luke 10. While Martha busied herself with preparations, Mary chose to prioritize her time with Jesus. Despite Martha's frustration, Mary understood the importance of her spiritual health and the power that came from being in the presence of the Lord. We all have our "Martha moments" when we get caught up in work and responsibilities, neglecting our relationship with Jesus. We can become dried up like a once-flowing creek bed, longing for the days when we were full of life. But the truth is, power and satisfaction come from spending time with Jesus, not from our own human efforts. While hard work is valuable, we shouldn't neglect the precious moments spent with Jesus. Being in the midst of life's challenges doesn't mean we put our lives on hold. Instead, we can lean into this season, growing closer to God and allowing His living water to flow through us, refreshing and restoring not only ourselves but those around us. Going the second mile is about doing the ordinary with excellence, and we must be excellent in our ordinary to open doors for the extra to happen. Our walk and relationship with Christ should be obvious to others, but we don’t need to be extra, just ordinary with excellence. We need to be ambitious without the promise of promotion and work as if we are working for the Lord rather than for people. We should be ordinary givers, giving our tithe, the 10%, with excellence, and there is freedom in giving to God. The grace of God is a starting point for all of us to experience the fullness of life that comes from accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We all need a starting point to begin a new adventure, just like how we plan and prepare for a vacation trip. The grace of God is that starting point for our walk and relationship with Jesus Christ. It is a free gift of God that qualifies us to participate in eternal life. It makes salvation available to each of us, regardless of our past or present circumstances. In this final part of David's prayer we see him ask God to lead him along the path of everlasting life. Faith in Christ is the first step on this path, and it's a daily walk that we must choose to follow. While we will fully experience everlasting life when we pass away and go to heaven, it's important to remember that we can live a rich and satisfying life now by following God's guidance. Ultimately, we need to trust what we follow, or else we could end up in danger or headed for destruction. So, let's ask ourselves: who or what are we following? Life is a path, and we all follow someone or something. However, following doesn't guarantee safe passage, and we need a leader we can trust. David knew this, which is why he asked God to guide him. In today's message, we explore the idea that our starting point in life is determined by others, and we must choose the path we take. The path we choose will determine the course of our lives and will impact every facet of our existence. We must guard the influencers in our lives and be mindful of who we draw advice from. We take a look at David's prayer to God to lead him. It's like the story of a young man who got lost in a blizzard and followed a snowplow, only to end up in the wrong place. Sometimes we follow things that lead us astray. We all follow someone or something, whether it's our own desires or the advice of others. The question is: what's guiding us? We continue our study of Psalms 139 with a focus on the prayer of David: "Point out anything in me that offends you." We often get offended by the behaviors, habits, and attitudes of others, but it's essential to examine ourselves and ask God to reveal anything that may be offensive to Him. Jesus faced similar opposition from the Pharisees, who were offended by Him because of his background and lack of formal education. But Jesus knew His purpose and mission, and the opinions of the Pharisees didn't matter to Him. Instead of getting offended, we must practice repentance, tearing down the walls that separate us from God and each other. People get offended by nearly everything, including opinions, slogans, statements, and politics. Today, we can learn from David's prayer and ask ourselves, "Have I offended Jesus?" Jesus spoke seven messages to the seven churches in the book of Revelation, and the first church, Ephesus, was commended for their hard work, patience, and faithfulness. However, Jesus also told them that they needed to work on their love for Him and each other, and we should also focus on our own hearts rather than critiquing others. Anxious thoughts are a common experience for all of us. Every person, regardless of age, gender, or background, has faced, or will face, anxious thoughts at some point in their life. Even Jesus, who was perfect and sinless, faced anxious thoughts, such as when he prayed in the garden of Gethsemane and asked the Father if the cup of suffering could be taken from him. But, he ultimately submitted to the Father’s will and expressed, “Not my will, but thy will be done”. Unfortunately, anxiety doesn’t just steal our peace of mind, but it can also rob us of our joy and happiness, our will to live, and even consume our entire life. It’s a thief that cheats us out of sharing happy times with our family and tries to steal every waking moment from us. For some of us, our anxious thoughts stem from our past. Maybe we experienced a tragedy early in life, or were a victim of child abuse. Perhaps we witnessed a horrific event unfold before our very eyes. Or, perhaps we have done something in the past that we cannot forgive ourselves for and it haunts us every day. For others, our anxious thoughts stem from our present, such as struggles in our marriage, job, or health. These thoughts can be overwhelming and seem like they will never go away, but we can find peace and comfort in the truth that God is with us, guiding us along the path of everlasting life. In this week’s message, we continue to explore David’s prayer, “Search me, O God and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you.
