Episode 19 - Kids in Cages
Hey E'rybody. I'm sure many of you are already aware of the atrocities being committed lately in the name of "border security", but you may not have a handle on some of the details. This episode is intended to inform you about exactly what is going on and why it is not only inhumane, but also ILLEGAL. It took some time to get all the moving parts together for this one and in the intervening days more news has surfaced on this issue. We're including a few links to those stories here at the top of the show notes, with links to the info I used for recording listed below. Click on the text to open. Links will open in a new browser window. News since recording: Staffers aren't allowed to pick up nor comfort infants at detention centers Former First Lady Laura Bush wrote an opinion piece.among other things, she called the images she's seen "eerily reminiscent" of WWII Japanese Internment Camps 4 month old infant taken from mother WHILE breastfeeding What you can do Resources used for this episode: They're keeping children in cages The UN says this treatment is illegal What separating migrant families at the border actually looks like Detention of migrant children is surging under Trump The legal process for children separated from their parents Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon recounts his experiences visiting detention centers - or trying to US-Funded police in El Salvador murder citizens with impunity Bianca Jagger on the situation in Nicaragua Video of Bianca Jagger interview on Amanpour Video of Chris Hayes' interview with Laura St. John and Lee Gelernt Adam Ruins Everything Episode 30: Jackie Stevens Exposes the Bizarre World of Immigration Courts and Detention Centers   I think that's all of them. Episode 18 - Olivier Blanchard
Hey E'rybody! Welcome to Episode 18 with Olivier Blanchard!  Smart people who "get it" are hard to come by, and Olivier is one.  If you don't learn something by listening to this episode; you're not paying attention.  That is my favorite thing about Olivier. I may not agree with everything he says ... but I learn something every time. This episode was a long time in the making and I'm very proud and thankful to be able to share it with you.  Grab your beverage of choice and settle in for a truly pure conversation.

Episode 17 - Evan Cecil
Hey E'rybody! After a lengthy hiatus (which I'll discuss on a future episode), we are BACK with a fantastic episode featuring Director Even Cecil. I first met Evan several years ago when I got booked as Background on shows he Directed for Investigate Discovery. I've been following him on Facebook ever since. For quite a while he's been posting about the movie he's been working on for the past 3 years; a horror film entitled "Lasso". Well... the film is finally completed and is screening tomorrow, Friday April 6th at the Oakland International Film Festival. I know this is horrendously short notice, but if anyone listening is in the area and looking for a fun way to spend the evening, come out to the screening! Producer Wendy and I will be there! Who needs more reason than that? ;)  Lasso has been on the festival circuit for a while now. It won Best Thriller Feature at the 2017 Atlanta Horror Film Festival and Best Horror Feature Film at the 2107 Fear Awards.  Watch Evan's Reel Check out the Teaser Trailer for "Lasso" Check out the Official Trailer for "Lasso" In the episode, not only did we discuss "Lasso", but also Evan's early career and some really fun details about what it was actually like making those shows for ID. It was a really good time, so give it a listen.  Don't forget to like, rate, review and subscribe! Life of Reilly is available on virtually every podcast platform, so you have no excuse! ;) Follow Lasso on Social Media: Twitter: @LassoMovie Instagram: lassomovie Facebook: Lasso Movie

Episode 16 - James Reitano
Hey E'rybody! Welcome to Episode 16 with my guest James Reitano! James and I met in Jr High School MANY years ago. In this episode we chat a bit about what is was like to be a teenager in Santa Cruz in the 80s, James' Graphic Novel 1985 is about exactly that. He has also just finished the series 1987, which you can link to below. James is also the artisitic mind behind our new logo, which we are SUPER stoked about! What do you guys think of it?    We also talked about previous jobs we've had and several other topics - as you know, I like to fly by the seat of my pants when we have guests on. So as usual, this one kinda veers around into some unexpected territory; which is just the way I like it. Hope you enjoy!   As always, don't forget to Like, Subscribe and Rate the podcast on whichever platform you listen. Tell your friends! We are now on Stitcher, GooglePlay and TuneIn, in addition to iTunes and the Podbean app. So no matter which type of mobile device you (or your friends) are using (Apple, Android or Windows) you can download and listen to Life of Reilly without being tethered to your computer!    LINKS 1985 Website The 1985 Graff Map TFU Studios Website 1985 on Facebook 1987 Time-Lapse colors video Michelin Commercial I worked on as a PA Another one Polaroid Under 35 Bucks commercial (I didn't work on this one, but its the only one I could find from that campaign) Keith Morris' Book "My Damage" Ed Catmull's Book "Creativity Inc"

Episode 15 Part 1 - Taylor Reilly - First Year Retrospective
Hey E'rybody! This one took a little while to edit, but I think you'll agree that it was worth the wait! My daughter Taylor joined me in studio this time for a retrospective on what we've been up to on Life of Reilly for the past year.  We listened to clips of past episodes, which sparked some really fun, insightful conversations. If you want to skip to specific parts of the episode, I've included some time stamps at the bottom of this message.  I've split the episode into two parts, to (hopefully) keep the download to a managable size.  Once you're finished with this one, make sure to download and listen to Part 2; there is some stuff in there that is pure gold! Do not miss it! Thanks for listening!  Don't forget to like, rate and review the show on whatever platform you're using; it really makes a huge difference!  Also - in addition to iTunes and the Podbean App, we are now available on Stitcher and TuneIn, with GooglePlay coming soon! This means you can listen on EVERY mobile device, regardless of platform. Don't stay tethered to your computer! Download an App and listen on the go. Whether you use iOS, Android or Windows! Episode 14 - My "Hamilton" Experience (No Spoilers, I promise!)
Hey E'rybody!  In this episode I tell the story of my experience volunteering for the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History's "Hamilton Education Program".  It was quite a day, as you'll hear.  I got to see "Hamilton", you guys.    But even more than that, I had an amazing, unforgetable experience that ran paralell to seeing the play. What an amazing, crazy day!   I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed recording my story for you. If you're interested in learning more about the program, click on the links below. To support the program, use the hashtag #EduHam   Me and Producer Wendy fixin' to get our drink on with the Gilder Lehrman folks after the show.        The Hamilton Education Project Oakland Technical High School's EduHam experience Don't forget to subscribe, rate and review Life of Reilly on iTunes! Episode 13 - Voter Suppression
Hey E'rybody! A quick but resounding Thank You to the folks who have been checking out the show after seeing me on my daughter Taylor's YouTube channel recently. Its great to see you here! That video was a TON of fun to make, and thanks to her subscribers, it looks like we're going to make it a recurring series. For those of you who haven't seen the video, you can check it out here. In this episode, I talk about some of the facts about and methods used to hinder and/or remove people's right to vote here in the US. Its a pretty heinous business that not many people are even aware of, let alone understand. Most of the information discussed came from the documentary "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy" by Investigative Journalist Greg Palast. Click the link to watch it on YouTube, it's totally worth the time. Palast's website is also a great resource for anyone wanting to dive into this topic. He is a dogged researcher, but is also talented and entertaining. Which makes this otherwise dense subject matter easier to wade through. Thanks for listening you guys! Don't forget to tell your friends and subscribe, rate and review on iTunes! I love you! - Kev

Episode 12 - "Don't Be a Sucker"
Hey E'rybody! After taking a few months off (where does the time go?) to adjust to some life changes, we are back with a vengeance! This solo episode was inspired by the short film "Don't Be a Sucker" which was produced by the US War Department (since renamed Department of Defense) during World War II. Producer Wendy came across it during one of her forays into the corners of the internet and knew immediately that she HAD to show it to me. If you haven't seen it yet (I posted a link on our Facebook Page), I recommend taking 17 minutes to watch it before listening to this episode. It's not a requirement by any means, I just think you might get more out of the episode. Here is a link: "Don't Be a Sucker" I'd also like to take a moment here to once again thank @SamiMoree_ for her awesome review on iTunes! Feedback from listeners is very important. Not only to those of us who produce Podcasts, but when it comes to platforms such as iTunes, ratings and reviews are part of what determines where you wind up in search results. So lets make Sami a trendsetter! Get your butt over to iTunes and type up a quick review. A five star rating would be super awesome, as well. ;) Veteran listeners to Life of Reilly are well aquainted with our friends Luke and Hamish from New Zealand. They - along with their friend Paddy - have rebranded their Press X to Jump podcast. The new show is Luke, Hamish, Paddy - The Podcast. Click on the title to link to their page on Soundcloud. As of this posting, I don't think they're activated on iTunes, but I'm sure they will be soon. Stay tuned for an announcement of their next appearance on LoR; hopefully Paddy will join us next time. As always, thanks SO much for listening. I love you. - Kev

Episode 11 - Denise Elerick
Hey E'rybody! My guest for this episode is Denise Elerick. Denise is a force of nature, let me tell you. She's a professional, a Mom, a Wife and an Activist. Not necessarily in that order. We recorded this one on the afternoon of November 20th at Denise's home in Aptos, CA. As such, there are the normal background noises one should expect in a home full of active people. Denise's family was very welcoming and considerate while we were recording, but some noises just can't be helped. It is also worth mentioning that I was sitting in a very comfy leather chair, but I find it impossible to sit still for very long. So the noises you hear have nothing to do with my diet... it was the chair. I swear! It was the CHAIR! Denise's dog Scout also makes his presence known a couple times. The dog has excellent taste and chose to spend much of our session near me. I hope you all enjoy listening to this conversation as much as I enjoyed having it. As always, thanks for listening and don't forget to tell your friends about the show! Hey E'rybody! I often have days where I WISH I could just chat with you guys. Today offered me the opportunity.  So, welcome to Episode 10! Free-form, no script, no agenda.  I literally just turned on the mic and started talking.  God Forbid, right?

Episode 9 - Alice Dobbe Returns!
Hey E'rybody! Welcome to Episode 9, the return of Alice Dobbe! We had another great chat, this one a tad shorter than the last. We bounced around from topic to topic without ever seemingly finishing one - as you all know, I love taking tangents! Alice will be representing New Zealand in the Asia/Oceania Powerlifting Championships 2016, being held in Christchurch Dec 4th thru Dec 11th. We're currently looking for ways for listeners to send donations to help Alice pay for expenses such as airfare and lodging for the competition. For more information on the event itself, or to volunteer at the event, I've included a link below to their Facebook Page. Best of luck to Alice and Team New Zealand !!! Stay tuned to this website, our Twitter and/or our Facebook Page for further information. Also feel free to email the show at lifeofreillypod@gmail.com.  One last thing, folks. Have you (Americans) a question you're just dying to ask a Kiwi? Well... Luke and Hamish from PXTJ have agreed to answer questions from our listeners. So think up some good ones and post them in the comments below, via Twitter, Facebook or email. I have no doubt the answers will be entertaining.  LINKS - Asia/Oceania Powerlifting Championships Facebook Page Julian Lee's Pies and Beer Diet - the Final Verdict Alice (the Viticulturist) was right about sugar in wine. Episode 8 - Is the Internet Making Us Evil?
Hey E'rybody!  First of all, apologies for any confusion regarding this episode. The audio file got corrupted sometime during the post-production process and I didn't realize it until after my initial upload. I believe all is well now. It's been a CRAZY month since my last post - hence the delay in posting a new episode - but things are getting back on track now. So we're planning to follow this one up with another rather quickly. Stay tuned! - Kev In this episode, Kevin waxes over questions about how the internet in general and social media in particular seem to be depersonalizing our interactions with others. Special thanks goes out to Denise Elerick for telling me about the Time magazine article and Diane Riggs-Muller for clueing us in to the documentary "The Brainwashing of My Dad". Links to both can be found below. Links: "How Trolls Are Ruining the Internet"from Time Magazine Watch the trailer for "The Brainwashing of My Dad".

Episode 7 - Luke Barnett and Hamish Reddington Part 1
Hey E'rybody! Strap yourselves in for this one, but get comfortable.  Our Kiwi mates Luke and Hamish from the Press X To Jump podcast joined me for a 5 hour romp that will no doubt go down in LoR history. I've broken it up into 2 parts to facilitate easier downloading.  Text in blue are clickable links that will open in a separate window. I seriously can't remember the last time I laughed so goddamn hard. This one is a MUST listen. Check the notes and links below to get a flavor of some of what we talked about. Warning to Gamers: This episode includes an end-game spoiler for "No Man's Sky".  The Intro music for this Episode is the song "Gutter Black" by the NZ band Hello Sailor. For my American listeners, I chose this tune because it was used as the theme song for one of my all-time favorite TV shows. A show from NZ called "Outrageous Fortune". I also used it in the hopes that it might bring a surprised chuckle from any Kiwis who are listening.   The John Malkovich 100 Year Movie - Great idea... but also just an odd way to advertise liquor. The Give Way (we call it Yield here in the States) Rule change in New Zealand. I must say, I didn't think H&L were explaining it right. For Americans, the idea that vehicles turning across traffic should have the Right of Way makes absolutely ZERO sense. Here is my question; Do you guys have arrow lights in NZ? Holy shit... if you're an American, wait until you hear how the Kiwis do their taxes. You won't believe your ears. Here's a short documentary from the UK about Boston's Big Dig project, and an article from Boston about the Laundry List of problems associated with it. If you haven't seen Snatch, you may not appreciate just how well Hamish speaks Pikey. So check out this clip.  I wasn't able to find the haircut scene from Stripes, but just for fun, here is the Graduation Ceremony scene.  The "Sleep with the D" marketing campaign: Fruit Stix Lollies:

Everyone can benefit from Professor Lakoff's essay, regardless of political affiliation or geographical location.
