39 – Swatting Game
Swatting is another trend to sweep the nation. What exactly is swatting? Well, swatting is the act of falsely reporting an ongoing critical incident in order to trick an emergency response service into showing up.Swatting incidents are happening more frequently. This is a dangerous form of pranking and has become a worldwide problem. Even celebrities aren't safe from the swatting game. Tom Cruise, Justin Beiber, and Clint Eastwood are just a few celebrities that have fell victim to the swatting game. Swatting Laws New Jersey is a popular destination for the swatting game. Almost two dozen swatting incidents have occurred within the past year alone in New Jersey. How can authorities discourage this?Currently, the penalty for getting caught swatting is 3 to 5 years in prison and/or a $15,000 fine. NJ assemblyman, Paul Moriarty, is proposing a bill that would increase the punishment for swatting. The prison sentence would be 5 to 10 years and/or a $150,000 fine. This proposal would lead to some unseen consequences for assemblyman Paul Moriarty.Assemblyman Paul Moriarty became a victim of swatting, probably due to his proposed bill. He was at home watching television when 6 police officers pulled up to his home. The police were responding to a reported shooting incident.https://soundcloud.com/nj-com/assemblyman-moriarty-gets-swatted Swatting Incidents Many establishments have been targets of the swatting game. One of the largest institutions to be targeted was the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. A caller reported that 3 armed men were in the building. The hospital was placed on lockdown. After searching the entire facility, it was determined this was a swatting incident.Freehold Raceway Mall has received two bomb threats within a six week period. Schools have been targeted. Even Pizza Hut has been a target. Also, normal citizens have become targets of the swatting game. Fatal Swatting Swatting can have possibly fatal consequences. In Sentinel, Oklahoma, 911 dispatchers received a call that Dallas Horton had placed a bomb in a preschool. Police officers forced their way into Dallas Horton's home. He didn't know it was the police that were breaking into his house. Horton, a gun owner, opened fire on the officers. Police Chief Louis Ross was shot several times but luckily survived because of his bulletproof vest.Luckily for Dallas Horton, an investigation showed that the call was just another swatting game incident. A man who was angry at Horton later confessed to making the calls. This swatting game incident could have turned deadly. The officers entering the home could have been killed by Horton. Also, the police officers could have returned fire and killed Dallas Horton. The swatting game can have dire consequences. What can be done to stop the swatting game? Let us know in the comments below. Also In Episode 39 Marijuana is legal in Oregon starting in July. In the city of Pendleton, an ordinance can fine smokers up to $500 if odor complaints are received. 38 – Outrageous Viral Videos
In this present time, almost everyone has a mobile device, such as a smartphone. On these mobile devices, there's a handy tool that many have now begun to use. That tool being the video camera. The majority of people use the video camera on their cell phone to capture special moments. Memories that can be forever digitally saved. However, these video cameras are also being used to capture people during their worst. These unfortunate video captures often lead to viral videos. Outrageous Viral Videos Viral videos are videos that becomes popular through a viral process of Internet sharing. This is typically achieved through video sharing websites (like YouTube), social media, and email. Many of these viral videos can be taken out of context, thus turning an average person into an Internet villain. Here are some top viral videos of people acting out of line in public. Starbucks Viral Video In Queens, New York, Starbucks employee Melissa became an Internet villain by being caught in a viral video. She lost her cool with a customer named Ruby Chen. Of course, the viral video does not show the start of the argument.https://youtu.be/7qY4bpS4UdsThe end result of this incident led to the firing of Starbucks employee, Melissa, and Ruby Chen received a $100 gift card for her troubles. It's kinda unfair to pass total judgement upon the Starbucks employee because the entire encounter is not shown in the captured viral video. ESPN Viral Video ESPN reporter, Britt McHenry was suspended for one week. The reason being due to a viral video that surfaced. Britt McHenry was caught berating a towing company employee after her car got impounded.https://youtu.be/Fri8JKUEZ-QBritt McHenry apologized on Twitter and blamed the incident on stress. She was reinstated at her job after her one week suspension.https://twitter.com/BrittMcHenry/status/588798710684987393 College Harassment Viral Video At Kennesaw State University, student Kevin Bruce was accused of harassment. What was he doing? Kevin Bruce was waiting in a lobby to see his student advisor. Apparently, sitting in a waiting area until someone is available is a form of harassment because that is what he was told. He recorded his brief encounter and the video went viral.https://youtu.be/LtxSFltiq9cPaying for tuition and wanting to meet with an advisor shouldn't warrant a harassment charge. After an investigation, KSU offered an apology over the advisor incident. The advisor shown in the viral video was suspended and has to go through training before ever being allowed to interact with students again. Also In Episode 38 Edward Bacon was rescued in New Hampshire. He was hiking by himself when he dislocated his hip. The surprising thing for him, at least, was what resulted. The State Fish and Game department charged Edward Bacon for his rescue. In order to save animals, you must kill them? Corey Knowlton bid $350,000 at an auction that will go to a conservation group that's saving the endangered black rhino. 37 – Bad Breakup Stories
Breakups can bring out the worst in people. Especially when breakups end up bad. Bad breakups can lead to immature actions, bruised egos, and just can ruin lives. The following cautionary tales can serve as a reminder to take the high road when dealing with a bad breakup situation. Bad Breakup Stories Karl Thimm Jr, a New York police officer, was involved in a bad breakup. He sent his wife an enormous amount of demeaning emails during their child custody battle. Some of his angry words to his wife included "remember the phrase Welcome to McDonald's can I take your order" and "btw you look pregnant." Thanks to these emails along with the fact that Karl Thimm Jr. refused to take a drug test, he received a 15 day jail sentence.Comedian Sherri Shepard and her ex-husband, Lamar Sally, are involved in an unusual custody battle, which makes the both of them look bad. While they were married, they hired a surrogate to carry a baby for them using a donor's egg and Lamar's sperm. However, things got bad and the relationship went south before the baby was born. Now, Sherri Shepard claims she was tricked into having this child and wants absolutely nothing to do with it. The case was taken to court and the judge ruled that Sherri Shepard is responsible. Talk about a bad breakup. The king of all bad breakups has to be Mel Gibson. He had left a bunch of explosive voicemails for his former girlfriend, Oksana Grigoreeva. Some of the messages said "I am going to come and burn your f**king house down but you will blow me first." Another message said "You look like a f**king pig in heat and it will get you raped by a pack of ni***rs... and it will be your fault." This bad breakup certainly was the beginning of Mel Gibson's fall from grace. Avoiding Bad Breakups When it comes to breakups, do not send your ex any messages, such as texts, emails, or voicemails, that you would be embarrassed for your own mother to hear. If things are too heated, consider having a third party mediate your breakup. Remember that the best revenge is living a good life. Nothing looks more pathetic than an adult that resorts to name calling and refuses to move on.Be happy that you are finally free of this person. No need to have a bad breakup. Do whatever you want as long as you keep your dignity. 36 – Bad Customer Service Experiences
We've all experienced it at some point. I'm talking about bad customer service. Everyone has heard the old saying "the customer is always right." Some of the top companies seem to forget this phrase. They can employ incompetent customer service representatives or even rude employees. This often leads to a bad customer service experience. Bad Customer Service Experiences One of the top companies that is known for bad customer service experiences is Comcast. An audio recording of one such experience went viral. The poor customer just wanted to cancel his cable service. Yet, an unrelenting customer retention representative WOULD NOT accept the fact that the customer was requesting a cancellation.Comcast came out and said they do not approve of the behavior their customer service retention rep exhibited. However, this rep was just following a script on how to respond to any possible customer cancellation request. With every customer cancellation that occurs, the odds that the retention representative will lose his job increases.Comcast customer service representatives have been notorious for changing the names on bill of customers that have angered them. These name changes include asshole, dummy, super bitch, and whore. Isn't that a wonderful surprise to find in your mailbox? It's an even more awkward situation trying to get your bill name changed back to your correct name.Messing with customers isn't unique to Comcast. A Colorado Best Buy customer dropped off his phone to be repaired. Soon afterwards, the customer's friends and family were contacting him. Turns out, the Best Buy employees wrote on Facebook as the customer that he was coming out as gay. In actuality, the customer is straight. The restaurant industry is also notorious for bad customer service experiences. The retaliation by angered employees varies. Some food workers intentionally do something unspeakable to the customer's food order. Others write derogatory remarks on the receipts to describe customers. Regarding receipts, customers are called things like fat chick, anal bitch, and even lady chinky eyes. The Customer Isn't Alway Right Customer service is a two way street. The customer service representative might be trying his/her best to help, but the customer is just plain obnoxious. Within the episode, two examples are played where the customer is the wrong party in the situation. Nothing positive will get accomplished if the attitude of the customer is poor.Customer Service Tips The best way to get great customer service when phoning a company is to be respectful to the person you are speaking to. You should have a realistic expectation about what the company and customer service representative can do for you. Recording the call is a great idea so that you can have proof of what was said to you. If all else fails, don't be afraid to ask for a supervisor. Also In Episode 36 An Illinois bar has a unique feature in its women's bathroom, a two way mirror. The owner of the bar refuses to have it removed and would rather burn the bar down. Is this a harmless joke or a violation of privacy? 35 – Patriotism or Unpatriotic Behavior
Recently in the news, there have been some stories concerning patriotism. Well, actually, a lack of patriotism would be a better description. The audacity shown by the people in these stories is quite incredible. Lack of Patriotism Before we get to the stories that portray a lack of patriotism, we need to share the definition of patriotism. Patriotism is defined as a cultural attachment to one's homeland or devotion to one's country, although interpretations of the term vary with context, geography and political ideology. It is a set of concepts closely related to those of nationalism. The following stories show the complete opposite. Helena Andrews Patriotism The incident during the White House Correspondent Dinner took social media by storm. It was broadcast live on many cable news networks. During the live broadcast, a woman was shown playing with her phone during the national anthem.https://youtu.be/8z_p53sjRT4The woman was identified as Helena Andrews, a Washington Post columnist. She decided to respond to all the criticism by tweeting on Twitter.https://twitter.com/helena_andrews/status/592139096555945985Her snobby excuse on Twitter resulted in a huge backlash. People decided to trash talk her and her lack of patriotism. Here are some of the best responses.https://twitter.com/SheriMinkoff/status/592123365017673728https://twitter.com/ShitIHearInDC/status/592124215706386432https://twitter.com/Phibear94/status/592192324047802369https://twitter.com/KristineAz/status/592186788778627072Perhaps Helena Andrews is telling the truth. Maybe she wasn't texting. Maybe she was really taking notes. Possibly she doesn't know the words to the national anthem and was just jotting them down in her phone. I highly doubt that though. Eric Sheppard Challenge The Eric Sheppard challenge is a video challenge. It's similar, but not really, to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. It's designed to show support for Eric Sheppard. He's a 22 year old college student who is a member of the New Black Panther Party. He's currently being sought after by police. In the typical challenge video, the person says their name, says "Fuck your flag", and stomps on an American flag.https://youtu.be/s2259ijC4gkEric Sheppard first made national headlines when a female veteran tried to stop him from burning an American flag on campus. The video of their exchange and altercation with police went viral. Police later recovered Eric Sheppard's backpack. It contained a gun and two clips. This is what sparked the police search for him.Eric Sheppard is reportedly a member of the New Black Panther Party and calls himself a "terrorist toward liars and those who are weak," as well as a "terrorist toward white people."This bullshit social media challenge is a waste of time and energy. Instead of people focusing their energy to make changes for the better, they are attempting to gain their 15 seconds of fame. This movement will die out quickly. It is nothing more than a complete lack of patriotism. If you don't like it where you live, then move. Also In Episode 35 Bars in Colorado have installed an "Interactive Urinal Communicator" which plays an anti-DWI public service announcement. These devices have been installed by the urinals. As the patron approaches the urinal, the message is played. An endangered gray wolf appeared for the first time in 150 years in Kentucky. Unfortunately, a 31 year old hunter shot and killed it. Officials let the hunter off because they believe he mistook the wolf for a coyote. 34 – Cat Facts To End Cat Cruelty
There's a disturbing story of animal cruelty towards a cat out of Washington County, Texas. Veterinarian Dr. Kristen Lindsey shot an arrow into the back of an orange cat's head. Then, she posted a photo on Facebook of her smiling while proudly dangling its limp body by the arrow's shaft. Kristen Lindsey captioned the post by saying "My first bow kill, lol. The only good feral tomcat is one with an arrow through its head! Vet of the year award... Gladly accepted."https://youtu.be/1KhlwHAoy2oPeople saw this post and outrage ensued. People called the Washington County Animal Clinic where she worked to complain about her Facebook post. The clinic's website was flooded with so much traffic that it crashed. Kristen Lindsey then added a comment to her original post. It said "no, I did not lose my job, lol. Psshh, like someone would get rid of me. I'm awesome!"Well, not soon after that cocky post, the clinic did fire Kristen Lindsey and covered her name on its sign with duct tape. The clinic is also publicly distancing itself from the disgraceful vet. Their mission is to help and care for animals, not murder them for sport. Most likely the cat that Kristen Lindsey killed wasn't feral at all. An elderly couple in the neighborhood had an orange tabby cat named Tiger. Their cat went missing the same day she posted the photo of the murdered cat on Facebook.https://youtu.be/P91hu3vnfSMLocal authorities are investigating the matter. It remains to be seen if Kristen Lindsey faces any criminal charges for her actions. In reality, Kristen Lindsey should have her veterinarian license revoked. Having a person like this for a vet would be like having Dr. Jack Kevorkian as a pediatrician. Cat Facts There are a lot of misconceptions concerning cats. For some strange reason, cats appear to get a bad rap. This misinformation might actually cause the mistreatment of cats. It's time to shed some light on cat facts and hopefully a better understanding will help end cat cruelty. There are plenty of myths and urban legends concerning cats. Some people actually consider these falsehoods to be fact. It's time to put an end to that rubbish and debunk some of these myths.Cats have 9 lives. This is an easy myth to dispel. Cats DO NOT have 9 lives. A cat is pretty resilient. They're also very smart. They might even appear to be lucky but cats only have one life to live. Don't trust your cat's safety to those mythical 9 lives.Pregnant women can't be around cats. Cats can potentially, not definitely, catch a parasite that causes toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasmosis is harmless to people with a normal immune system but can cause health problems for fetuses. However, women are more likely to catch it from handling raw meat or doing gardening. You cannot catch toxoplasmosis by simply petting a cat. The only way to catch it from cats is by eating their poop or not washing your hands after handling their poop.Cats steal the breath of babies. This is just another crazy urban legend. There's no evidence that cats do this. Cats like to snuggle up against warm bodies so this is why they snuggle with infants. If your cat is bigger than your baby, then just keep it out of the nursery for peace of mind.Cats are cold-hearted loners. Not true! Cats are not dogs. Cats are more independent but are just as loving and attentive. Many cats are very loving. Cats can even be friends with dogs. Feral Cat Facts Feral cats can be beneficial. Unfortunately, they are more often seen as a nuisance. Here are some cat facts about feral cats that will potentially change negative opinions.Feral cats can minimize rodent and cockroach problems. Rodents, like rats and mice, are a threat to the health of humans. Rats and cockroaches both are carriers of life threatening diseases. Luckily, feral cats keep their populations in check. Many people enjoy watching feral cats.

33 – Wrongful Termination
Employers have a lot of freedom when it comes to firing employees. Every state in the United States, except for Montana, practices "at will" employment. If you don't have an employment contract, your employment is most likely "at will." One example of an employment contract would be if you were part of a union. "At will" employment means that your employer doesn't need to have a good reason to fire you. However, there are exceptions that could lead to wrongful termination. Wrongful Termination Possibilities If you are terminated for any of these reasons, this can be considered as wrongful termination. Discrimination. Your employer can't fire you because you are of a certain race, nationality, religion, gender, or age. Retaliation. An employer cannot fire you because you are a "whistle blower", which is someone who brings to light misconduct within a company or organization. Illegal Acts. Your employer can't fire you because you refuse to commit an act that's illegal. Pregnancy. A company cannot fire you because they don't want to provide you with maternity leave.Getting fired for any of these reasons could qualify as wrongful termination. "At will" employment, however, is a two way street. An employer can fire you without notice and you can just as easily quit without notice. This is frowned upon though and you should probably give your employer at least a 2 weeks notice. Wrongful Termination Stories Here are some examples of people who were fired from their jobs. The reasons for their firing might seem unfair. Under the law, the reasons were perfectly acceptable. Decide for yourself whether or not these are cases of wrongful termination. Fired For Being Too Attractive Normally, being attractive is viewed as an asset in life, but for Iowa dental assistant, Melissa Nelson, it wound up being the reason why she was fired. She was fired from a job that she had held for over 10 years. Her boss, Dr. James Knight, and his wife felt that Melissa needed to be fired in order to preserve their marriage.Dr. Knight began to have sexual feelings toward Melissa and felt an affair would be inevitable. It didn't seem to matter to him or his wife that Melissa was also married with no interest in having an affair. Melissa Nelson filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against Dr. James Knight. Was this a case of wrongful termination? The case was dismissed by the judge before the trial. She then took her appeal to the Iowa Supreme Court but the justices ruled that an employee can be fired because "the boss views the employee as an irresistible attraction." The justices came to the conclusion that being fired is justified if "the boss' spouse views the relationship between the boss and the employee as a threat to her marriage." The court viewed the threat to the relationship not to be related to gender. Unknowingly Offending Someone Michael Cuzzo was fired from his job as a field manager at a New Jersey Wawa convenience store after a customer complained about his use of a squirt toy called a . This toy is commonly used at hibachi restaurants and Cuzzo used it to clean customers' side mirrors while pumping gas. Most customers found this humorous and many even requested he use it. However, the female passenger of one car he was pumping gas for became visibly upset by its use.Michael Cuzzo apologized but the customer still complained to management. Cuzzo was fired that same day. He was known for his offbeat personality during his time with Wawa. Cuzzo did things like serving receipts on a silver platter and sometimes wore a tuxedo to work. Was this a case of wrongful termination?Management knew that he was acting in ways that deviated from their standard practices but did nothing to reign him in. Wawa fired him in an instance that could've probably just deserve a warning. Wawa released a statement saying that their decision was not ba...

32 – Sexual Harassment in the Workplace
Sexual harassment involves unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature. Of course, the key word in that sentence is unwelcome. If people are engaging in a sexually charged conversation, it isn't necessarily sexual harassment. The people might actually enjoy that kind of activity. Sexual harassment really is in the eye of the beholder, but when in a working environment, it's better to be safe than sorry. Workplace Sexual Harassment Statistics Let's go over some statistics concerning sexual harassment in the workplace. This study was conducted by aware.org (Association of Women for Action and Research). With 500 people and 92 companies involved, here's what they discovered: 54% had experienced some form of sexual harassment in the workplace 79% of the victims were women 21% of the victims were men 12% were threatened with termination if they didn't give into the demands of their sexual harassersThese statistics are kind of frightening. Here it is, 2015. Sexual harassment has been at the forefront of conversation for decades. Have times not yet changed? With advanced technology, such as smart phones, aren't the perpetrators worried of getting caught? Sexual harassment can very easily be proven these days just by having the evidence recorded on one of today's cell phones. It can even be shared onto social media for all to see. With powerful tools like smart phones and social media, it's quite surprising how high the percentage of workplace sexual harassment victims really is. Extreme Workplace Sexual Harassment There's been an extreme case of sexual harassment in the workplace on the news of late. This bizarre story is out of the state of Minnesota. A man, John R. Lind, had been ejaculating into the coffee cup of a coworker for a period over 6 months. The victim, Pat Maahs, thought the whole time that she was just drinking "spoiled coffee." This was until she actually caught him in the act. Watch the actual news report below.https://youtu.be/TbcglFZgArMAs you can tell from the video, this is a pretty sick story. Obviously, this is an extreme case of workplace sexual harassment. Apparently, Minnesota didn't have any laws prohibiting this disturbing behavior at the time. So the 34 year old John R. Lind got off (literally and figuratively.)In Sioux City, Iowa, the city is paying out one of its employees $300,000. The reason for this payout is due to a settlement in a sexual harassment lawsuit involving another city employee. Brittany Scott filed a lawsuit saying that she was sexually harassed by the City Manager, Paul Eckert. She says that she spoke out about the sexual harassment, only to feel the wrath of her superior, Paul Eckert. One such result was being passed up for promotions. The city reached an out of court settlement with Brittany Scott. You might be wondering about Paul Eckert. What punishment did he receive? Well, he left his position in Sioux City and accepted a City Manager job in Mount Shasta, California. Paul Eckert didn't have to answer to the sexual harassment allegations but now the taxpayers are going to pay for it instead. The network CBS is facing a sexual harassment lawsuit. Former CBS employee Kenneth Lombardi is suing the network for sexual harassment. He's claiming that he was "repeatedly drunkenly groped and kissed by powerful men at the network." One of these men is Albert Colley. Albert Colley is the director for the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley.Kenneth Lombardi says he's so distraught from the workplace sexual harassment that he's having symptoms of PTSD. Here are some of the things that Lombardi is claiming Albert Colley did. He had Lombardi meet him at a gay bar. He questioned Lombardi on what his sexual orientation was. When Lombardi told Albert Colley that he was bisexual,

31 – Dog Fighting Awareness
Thanks to the ASPCA, April 8th is known as National Dog Fighting Awareness Day. The ASPCA, which stands for American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, wants to increase understanding of dog fighting. By increasing understanding and awareness of dog fighting, people across the nation can take part in eliminating this barbaric form of animal cruelty.Dog fighting is a worldwide issue. Its victims are unable to speak out for themselves. Following the publicized arrest of NFL quarterback, Michael Vick, several athletes spoke out on his behalf. NBA player Stephon Marbary believes dog fighting is a sport and compared it to hunting. Professional boxer Roy Jones Jr stated that two dogs fighting can happen anywhere. NFL player Clinton Portis feels that dogs are property and should be treated as such. Also, he feels that people should mind their own business. The first step towards ending this barbaric practice is through education. What is Dog Fighting? Dog fighting is basically a blood sport. Two opposing dogs enter a ring or pit and fight to the death for the entertainment of spectators. Dog fights last until there is a winner. Winners are declared if the other dog dies or jumps out of the pit.Dog Fighting Cruelty There's no part of dog fighting that doesn't involve cruelty to the animals. Besides the actual dog fighting contest, the entire process of dog fighting is cruel. Even if the losing dog survives the fight, it's often killed by its owner. The death typically isn't quick and humane. The death of the losing dog is brought upon in a brutal way such as drowning, electrocution, starvation, or torture.Dogs that aren't used as fighters become bait dogs. The bait dog has its muzzle taped shut and is restrained. Thus, leaving it completely helpless. The fighting dog will use the bait dog to practice its attacks.Bait dogs are pretty much as good as dead. Even if the bait dog survives the attacks of the fighting dog, it never receives medical attention. The bait dog will eventually die from its injuries. Any type of dog can be used as a bait dog and, most often, stolen dogs become bait dogs.Bait dogs don't necessarily have to be dogs. Kittens, cats, and rabbits are often used as bait animals. A lot of these bait animals are either stolen or obtained from free ads on Craigslist. Dog Fighting Related Criminal Activity Dog fighting is a felony in all 50 states of the United States. Besides the crime of animal cruelty, illegal gambling is tied to dog fighting. Drug trafficking, gang activities, and money laundering are all crimes that can be associated with dog fighting. Signs of Dog Fighting Learn how to spot dog fighting rings and events. Knowing what to look for is the best way for citizens to keep dog fighting and its associated crimes out of their neighborhoods. Here are some things to look out for. Dogs on heavy chains or with weights around their necks Homes with many pit bulls that seem abused or unsocialized Equipment used to condition dogs like treadmills, spring pole (a rope or rawhide suspended from a beam that the dog bites on to gain strength and endurance), and Jenny (apparatus that looks like a horse walker which allows the dog to run in circles, chasing bait) Scarred or physically mutilated dogs Numerous amounts of people coming and going from a location at unusual hoursThe Humane Society of the United States offers up to a $5000 reward for information leading to the arrest or conviction of anyone involved in dog fighting. 30 – Meninism vs Feminism
March is recognized as Women's History Month. This is number 3 and final part of our miniseries on women's issues. The subject to be discussed is the phenomenon known as "meninism." Of course meninism can't be talked about without mentioning its counterpart, feminism. The Meninism Movement What exactly is meninism? Meninism can be considered a various number of things. Some say it's a movement calling for the equality rights of men. Others consider meninism to be a rebellion against feminism, which is a threat to their masculinity. While most believe meninism is a blatant mockery of feminism. Some of the issues meninists (those who believe in meninism) believe exist have to do with numerous double-standards. Meninism even has its own Tumblr to express their opinions. Here are some examples of their gripes: Why can a woman ask a guy his height, but if he asks for her weight, that's wrong? Why can't men ever get into clubs for free? Why do men have to spend hard earned money on dates? Why can't men get asked out, picked up, and fed? Men should have a say in abortion. It's their child as well. If a man disagrees with a woman, it's sexist. It's hard to differentiate between those who are serious and those who are joking. These gripes are very insignificant. While some are bringing up these points in a humorous manner, others really believe this is a problem for men.https://twitter.com/MarkusLenzz/status/412724867016843265Meninist Views On Appearance Whether they are joking or not, meninists vastly point out the double standards when it comes to physical appearance. Does feminism have anything to do with appearance? No, but it is a big deal in meninism. Do you think they have a valid point? What is Feminism? With all this talk about the meninism movement, we need to learn what exactly feminism is. Many of the meninists feel that the modern form of feminism is all about wanting to belittle men. What is the true definition of feminism? Feminism is based upon the philosophy that women are equal to men. Feminism wants to achieve equal political, economical, and social rights for women. This doesn't sound like something that is all bad. Feminism wants women to have the same rights as men. Such rights and abilities include the right to vote, hold public office, equal pay for equal work, and to education. Feminism also wants to protect women from rape, sexual harassment, and domestic violence. The major problem with feminism is how it is portrayed in the media. Not only the media, but other outlets such as religious leaders, teachers, politicians, etc. mislead the public on the purpose of feminism. When you think of "feminist", the thing that comes to most men's minds is a " hairy man-hating lesbian." Of course, with any movement there are extremists. Unfortunately, the media gives them the most attention. In order for feminism to shine, they need to re-brand their image. Feminists need to clearly state what it is they are fighting for. Equality is a fight both sides can back. The goals of equality for both sexes is something that most people would not have a problem with.Feminist Origin of Meninism Over the past year, it seems that the word "meninist" emerged out of nowhere. This word is not new. However the meaning the word has taken on drastically changed. The term "meninist" was originally used on a feminist website. Meninists originally were considered a "global organization of men that believe in and support the feminist principles of political, social, and economic equality." The newly formed definition of meninism seems to be a mockery of its original meaning. There needs to come a day when there is no need for such words like feminism and meninism. Once equality of the sexes is achieved, it should be known as humanism. Also In Episode 30

29 – Is Gender Inequality Still An Issue Today?
Since March is Women's History Month, this is part 2 of our miniseries on women's issues. In this part, the subject up for debate is gender inequality. Does gender inequality still exist today? Gender Inequality Today First off, we need to know the definition of what gender inequality is. Gender inequality is the unequal treatment of people based on their gender. It can even be the perception of someone being inferior because of their gender. One prime example would be the controversial 2015 Super Bowl commercial "Like a Girl."https://youtu.be/XjJQBjWYDTsWhen boys and young men were asked to demonstrate running like a girl, throw like a girl, and fight like a girl, their interpretations were silly and ridiculous. Even when young women were asked the same thing, they demonstrated the same type of silly, ridiculous behavior. However, when young girls were asked, they ran normally, threw normally, and fought normally. They didn't view the phrase "like a girl" as a derogatory statement. Unfortunately, around the time girls reach puberty, their self-confidence plummets and accept the belief that they are inferior. This proves that gender inequality still exists today. Traditional Roles Encourage Gender Inequality Gender inequality might be based upon the concept of traditional gender roles. What is the stereotype for women? They are led to believe that their purpose in society is to get married, have children, and take care of all the domestic duties. These domestic duties include caring for the children, cooking the meals, doing the laundry, and keeping the home tidy.Men are stereotyped also. Their role is to be the financial provider. The men are suppose to be the primary disciplinarian of the children. Also, it is the responsibility of men to take care of any repairs around the home. Are these stereotypes encouraging gender inequality? That point can be heavily debated. It would have to depend on each individual situation. Perhaps one family is better suited having the woman being the breadwinner, while the man takes the role of homemaker. Other situations, it might be best for the man to be the provider while the woman manages the household. But with many women working full time jobs these days, how can the duties of homemaker fall solely upon them?Gender inequality is a learned behavior. According to many scientific studies, children learn these gender stereotypes from adults. These learned, traditional gender roles are passed from one generation to the next. The key to stopping this vicious cycle is this pattern. As you will learn, it is possible to end gender inequality. Traditional Gender Roles Can Change The traditional gender roles of today didn't necessarily always exist. Things assigned to a specific sex don't have to stay that way. Over time, gender roles can change. We just need them to change in a way that will put an end to gender inequality. One example would be the colors pink and blue. In the early 1900's, pink was considered to be a "boy color." It was a boy color because pink was a strong color suitable for boys. Blue was accepted as being a "girl color." The reason blue was considered a girl's color was because it was more delicate, dainty, and prettier. But before this color assignment, babies of both sexes wore white dresses until the age of six because the dresses could be bleached.Another example of shifting gender roles would be cheerleading. Cheerleading began as a boys only sport. It was thought that cheerleading was too masculine for women because it would cause them to develop powerful, unladylike voices. Presidents Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Ronald Reagan were all cheerleaders. It wasn't until the 1930's that women entered cheerleading and dominated the sport by the 1960's.These are just a few examples of how gender roles can change. Gender doesn't have to define us.

28 – Slut Shaming Epidemic
March 8th 2015 marked International Women's Day. It is celebrated every year on the same date. So what is the purpose of International Women's Day? Generally speaking, it is a celebration and an appreciation for women's economic, political, and social achievements.Women's History Month is celebrated throughout the month of March. It highlights the contributions of women throughout history. In honor of Women's History Month, we are going to be discussing many issues that still face women today in a miniseries. Sara wrote an article giving 5 reasons why feminists can't stop fighting for equality. We will cover each point. Slut Shaming In part 1 of our Women's miniseries, let's discuss slut shaming. Slut shaming is a big problem that occurs today. So what is slut shaming? Slut shaming is the act of making women feel guilty or inferior for their perceived sexual behaviors. One example would be if a woman is dressed provocatively, she might be slut shamed. Other examples of slut shaming could be based on a woman's sexual activity. Whether she engages in casual sex or even if she was raped, a woman could be a victim of slut shaming. In regards to sex, women are held to a different standard than men. While men are free to engage in sex with multiple partners, women who engage in the same behavior are looked down upon. It's not only men that are guilty of slut shaming. Both men and women engage in slut shaming. Unfortunately, it's a lose-lose situation. If a woman projects a sexy image, she's viewed as a slut. If a woman projects a conservative or professional image, she's perceived as either being an irrelevant prude or a lesbian. Slut Shaming in the Media Who can be blamed for the slut shaming that goes on to this day? You can look towards the internet and the media. With an abundance of pornography freely available on the internet, it desensitizes its viewers into considering women to be objects instead of people. Viewers might generalize all women as being "sluts" based upon how women are depicted in porn. Now the blame can't solely fall on pornography. What about the media's role in slut shaming? The media likes to engage in slut shaming. One example would include Kim Kardashian and how the media portrays her in a negative light because of her perceived sexuality. Another example would be Miley Cyrus' performance at the 2013 VMA Awards. In her performance, Miley Cyrus twerked up against Robin Thicke. This caused a slut shaming uproar in the media. Miley Cyrus was criticized for her clothing and twerking while nothing was really said at all about Robin Thicke's involvement. The entertainment industry needs to step up their game to end slut shaming. More powerful and important women characters need to portrayed on the big and small screen. The stereotypical weak, pathetic, or slutty character needs to become the minority instead of the majority. The Toll Slut Shaming Takes Many might think that slut shaming is a victimless crime. That it's not really affecting anyone. Well, many women, especially teens, have committed suicide due to slut shaming.15 year old teen, Felicia Garcia, committed suicide because of slut shaming. She had sex with four football players and became the target of slut shaming. Felicia was teased, harassed, and constantly called a slut. She ended her life by jumping in front of a subway train. Two days before killing herself, Felicia Garcia tweeted, "I can't, I'm done, I give up."The sexual double standard needs to end. The practice of slut shaming needs to stop in order for women to truly achieve equality. Also In Episode 28 Two tourists from California deface the Roman Colosseum. The two American women decided to carve their initials in the historic landmark and got caught. Defacing the walls of the colosseum is strictly prohibited and the two women will most likely face a penalty.

27 – How To Deal With Bad Neighbors
There's a growing problem that affects a majority of people. This problem is bad neighbors. There are a few things people want to know: how to deal with bad neighbors and, in some cases, how to get rid of bad neighbors. Hopefully, these questions will be answered here but for the full experience, listen to the podcast episode for a more in-depth approach. How to Deal with Bad Neighbors When you end up with a bad neighbor, how did things get to be this way? An article by Psychology Today brings up an interesting point. The author of the article points out that many people make the mistake of isolating themselves from their neighbors. Their first contact with their neighbor is usually a confrontation over something the neighbor did wrong. This ends up creating bad neighbors.Think about it. If your only contact with your neighbor is via a dispute, this will only encourage that neighbor to continue or escalate the annoying behavior. Establishing a good relationship with your neighbors could most likely prevent them from turning into bad neighbors. The determination of whether or not you will create bad neighbors is how you handle the situation. If your approach is to come out with guns blazing because your neighbor didn't pick up after his dog, then his/her reaction might be equally aggressive. Using a calm and calculated method to approach your neighbor can defuse any potential problems. Some people are just plain unreasonable. So using the psychological warfare described in the Psychology Today article just might not work out. Do I Stay or Do I Go? One action people take in dealing with bad neighbors is to just pack up and leave. The stress and pressure caused by these bad neighbors is sometimes too difficult to handle. People making the decision to leave think this is the only viable solution to their problem. If you're a tenant, you can easily decide to not renew your lease. However, if you purchased your home, do you put it up for sale in order to escape your bad neighbors? You might think it would be an easier decision for renters but there are many other factors to consider: Do you have children and will they have to change schools? Will moving negatively impact your commute to work? Is moving even economically feasible? You shouldn't have to move just to escape bad neighbors. Imagine the inconvenience involved. Moving should be the last resort in dealing with bad neighbors. Sometimes moving can result in a chaotic situation. Just ask Jerry Rice and Janice Ruhter. Woman Tortures Couple for Outbidding on a Home Jerry Rice and Janice Ruhter purchased a home in San Diego, California, in 2011. They outbid another person who was interested in the home, Kathy Rowe. Kathy Rowe wanted the home so badly that she offered the couple $100,000 on top of what they paid. The couple wasn't interested. Kathy Rowe decided to terrorize the couple.Kathy Rowe initially sent over $1,000 worth of magazine subscriptions to the home of Jerry Rice and Janice Ruhter. Next, the married, female neighbors of the couple received provocative Valentine's Day cards. All of which were shown to be sent from Jerry Rice. In actuality, they were sent by Kathy Rowe. The most heinous act of terror Kathy Rowe committed were the series of rape fantasy Craigslist ads. Kathy Rowe posted ads on Craigslist, pretending to be Janice Ruhter. The ads detailed Janice's rape fantasy. The ads stated that Janice Ruhter wanted men to come into the house and force themselves upon her, even if she said no. A couple men did show up but luckily the faux fantasy was not fulfilled.Kathy Rowe, winner of '50 Best Moms of San Diego', was caught by police. She accepted a plea bargain deal. Kathy Rowe received one year of electronic surveillance and 5 years of probation. As you can see here, moving to avoid your bad neighbors doesn't always work out.

26 – Internet Fights Suck But Don’t Ban Yoga Pants
It's one thing to fight and argue, but fighting on the internet? When you actually think about it, arguing on the internet seems absurd. Yes, the whole point for arguing is to win or sway others to your point of view. Can you really win an argument through the internet? What are internet fights? The Urban Dictionary defines internet argument as "this is something that idiots do online when they are bored and/or have no friends."Those that participate in internet fights are most often labeled as trolls. If you utilize social media or sites with a commenting system, like YouTube, you've encountered a troll at some point. Trolls deliberately provoke others into an emotional response. Trolls just love to start internet fights.Trolls aren't the only ones who love to argue on the internet. Celebrities have internet fights all the time. Celebrity internet fights are usually entertaining to the rest of society. When average people argue on the internet, they're trolls but when celebrities have internet fights, it's called entertainment. Let's take a look at some celebrity arguments that took place on the internet. Celebrity Internet Fights Amber Rose Vs Kim Kardashian This popular internet fight involves Amber Rose, Kanye West, The Kardashians, Tyga, and RayJ. Amber Rose had previously date Kanye West for a couple years. During a radio interview, Amber Rose said Tyga should be ashamed of his relationship with Kim Kardashian's sister, Kylie Jenner. Not only is Tyga already a father, but he is 25 years old and Kylie is 17. Of course the Kardashians are saying that they are "just friends."Khloe Kardashian took to Twitter to defend her younger sister. According to Khloe, Amber Rose is nothing but a stripper while Kylie Jenner has a career. What career does Kylie Jenner actually have?https://twitter.com/khloekardashian/status/567382846508400640https://twitter.com/khloekardashian/status/567383050942947328Amber Rose had to respond, via Twitter. She pointed out how Khloe referred to her as a stripper yet her sister Kim has a sex tape. Amber Rose also hinted that Khloe Kardashian's real father was O.J. Simpson.https://twitter.com/DaRealAmberRose/status/567419920112050176https://twitter.com/DaRealAmberRose/status/567513371436929024Kanye West just couldn't keep away from the action. In an interview, Kanye West had to go on record as saying Kim Kardashian was so grossed out that he dated Amber that he had to take 30 showers before getting with Kim. In the same interview, Kanye said good for Tyga to get it in early. Basically, Kanye is admitting to the fact that there is a relationship between the 25 year old Tyga and 17 year old Kylie Jenner. Possibly confirms the two having sexual relations also.Amber Rose couldn't stay silent after Kanye West made the 30 showers comment. She decided to continue the internet fight on Twitter by taking a jab at Kanye and Kim Kardashian.https://twitter.com/DaRealAmberRose/status/568868067251335168Amber was definitely referring to the sex tape of Kim Kardashian and RayJ. Other tweets, saying the KarTRASHians will humiliate Kanye West once they're done with him, have been deleted. Kim Kardashian has yet to respond to any of this. However, RayJ had this to add on Twitter via Instagram...https://twitter.com/RayJ/status/568899292410322944 Azealia Banks Vs Iggy Azalea The Australian, white rapper female, Iggy Azalea, and black rapper female, Azalea Banks, had an internet fight on Twitter. Azealia Banks said on an interview "that Iggy Azalea shit isn't better than any f***ing black girl that's rapping today. The Grammys are supposed to be accolades of artistic excellence. Iggy Azalea is not excellent."A back and forth ensued on Twitter between the two female rappers. This is just another petty celebrity argument on the internet for all to see.

25 – Online Reputation is Important
In a followup to the topic covered in last week's podcast episode, which was revenge porn, a good online reputation is extremely important these days. Everything you say and do online can have an impact on your online reputation. Employers, friends, first dates, etc. are using the internet to find out more about you. Still not convinced? Well, here are some interesting facts why a good online reputation is important. Online Reputation Stats 78% of job recruiters check search engines to find out more about potential employees. 63% of recruiters check social media sites to learn more about you. Do you have a personal website? 48% of the time these are checked when deciding whether or not to hire you. 8% of companies have fired someone for abusing social media. These statistics prove that hiring managers base their decision upon your online reputation. The internet is becoming a useful tool for employers. The story of the Texas teenager who got fired for a tweet before starting her job is a perfect example.24 hours before the teenager was to start her new job, she complained about it on Twitter. The Texas teenager tweeted, "Ew I start this f*** a*** job tomorrow." The store owner saw her tweet and responded on Twitter. He replied, "No... you don't start the FA job... I just fired you!" Not that this was exactly professional on the store owner's part but employers do use social media. Online Reputation Management Tips We've come up with a list of tips for online reputation management. Of course, the easiest thing would be to throw away your computer and smart phone. Then, move to a remote island and live away from civilization. However, this is definitely not realistic. Here are real online reputation management tips.Google your name often to see what comes up. As in the case of my friend's wife, multiple sites containing revenge porn popped up when searching her name. This is not the first impression you would want to give to anyone. Make sure you write down any questionable search results.Don't post or publish anything questionable or stupid. This should be obvious and not even mentioned here. Unfortunately, people just post/publish anything and everything these days. If you're young, it's hard to think that what you post now will have an impact on your future online reputation. The best and most simplistic advice is definitely do not post or publish anything stupid.Use secure passwords so it'll be unlikely for anyone to login to your accounts and post horrible things. Another obvious and simple tip. It might be a hassle having different, complicated passwords, but the peace of mind should be the payoff. Hackers are gaining access to people's accounts all the time but they aren't the ones you should be most concerned with. Friends or ex-lovers can do a lot of damage to your online reputation. It would be easy for them to gain access to your accounts because of how well they know you. They could very well know the answers to your security questions too.If you find something you don't like, ask to have it removed. In order to protect your online reputation, get anything negative removed. Such as the case as my friend's wife, she needs to begin the long process of having all the revenge porn photos of her removed. Even negative mentions on social media can have an impact on your online reputation. Perhaps a friend is mentioning your name on Facebook for joining him in illegal behavior. In order to protect your online reputation, things with a negative impact need to be removed. The Internet Is Forever In a moment of foolishness, you post something questionable on social media. Then, after some thinking, you decide to delete it. Everything is good now, right? Wrong! It seems like once something makes it onto the internet, it is there forever. Just ask Ethan Czahor.Top Jeb Bush aide, Ethan Czahor,

24 – Revenge Porn And Its Impact
After googling people's names, Ed discovered a suspicious link. After clicking on the link, he discovered a Tumblr containing several nude pictures of his friend's wife. This particular Tumblr was not created by her and there were hundreds of re-posts of these tasteless photos. Ed found that his friend's wife had been a victim of revenge porn. Revenge Porn So what exactly is revenge porn? Well, revenge porn consists of sexually explicit media, usually pictures, that's shared on the internet without the consent of the person in them. In most cases, the victims of revenge porn are women.Who is doing the sharing and what purpose does it serve? The people who are sharing revenge porn are usually scorned ex-lovers. They could also be hackers. They could even be friends. The main purpose of revenge porn is to publicly shame, embarrass, and humiliate the people contained within the images.Revenge porn can ruin a person's life. It harms victims mentally and emotionally. Victims can be harassed and even fired from their jobs. Some victims were so devastated that even committed suicide. Pre-Internet Revenge Porn Before the internet existed, it would seem as if revenge porn wouldn't be able to exist. Well, it did. During the 1980s, the adult magazine, Hustler, had a section within their publication called 'Beaver Hunt.' This is where men would send the magazine photos of women genitalia and it was printed. Majority of the submitted photos did not have the consent by the women pictured. The magazine was forced to remove the 'Beaver Hunt' section due to the lawsuits by these victims of revenge porn. The War Against Revenge Porn The app, Snapchat, was suppose to be a worry-free sexting app. That wasn't its intended purpose but its functionality seemed to be the perfect solution. A nude photo could be taken and sent to a friend after a time limit was specified. The photo would be deleted from the recipient's phone after the time ran out. Unfortunately, users were able to keep copies of the sexting images by using the phone's screenshot ability. This allowed Snapchat users to potentially become victims of revenge porn. There's a website called End Revenge Porn. According to their mission statement, they want to "become a one-stop shop for everyone that is involved in the war against revenge porn." Not only do they want to provide emotional support and resources to the victims of revenge porn, but they also want to advocate for laws against revenge porn.In the United States, only 13 states have laws against revenge porn. Most of these state laws aren't even specifically for revenge porn. In the case of New Jersey, for example, a cyberbullying law has been used to target perpetrators of revenge porn. California, on the other hand, has taken steps to outlaw revenge porn. The Revenge Porn Vigilante Adam Steinbaugh is a law clerk by day, but his hobby is revenge porn vigilantism. Adam tracks down the identities of the people who run revenge porn websites. Once he exposes the people running these sites, they become the subject of public shaming. Most of the people take down the sites once they get exposed. Adam Steinbaugh is responsible for taking out many notorious revenge porn websites. Also In Episode 24 WWE wrestler Seth Rollins might be a victim of revenge porn. A nude selfie of newly-signed diva, Zahra Schreiber, appeared on Seth Rollins Instagram account. Leigh Schultz, the fiancé of Seth Rollins, then proceeded to post full frontal nudity photos of Seth Rollins on her Twitter account. In Episode 22, the topic of bad parenting was discussed. Here's an update on a technique parents should not use! A 6 year old boy was apparently too trusting of strangers, according to his family. They decided to perform a fake kidnapping of him in order to teach him a lesson. This fake kidnapping lasted over 4 hours and the 6 year old was clearly shaken up ove...

23 – Pet Owners Are Outraged
People love their pets. Most pet owners feel as if their pet is a part of the family. In the United States alone, almost 75% of the population have some type of animal as a pet. With these statistics, why would a company risk becoming a target for pet owners?Show Notes can be found at letstrashtalk.com/23 Pet Owners Outraged The website hosting company, GoDaddy, released their Super Bowl commercial days before the big game was played. The commercial was intended to be a parody of a Budweiser commercial. However, pet owners were outraged at the GoDaddy commercial. So much, GoDaddy removed their commercial from their YouTube channel and cancelled it from airing during the Super Bowl. The GoDaddy commercial, titled "Journey Home", featured a cute puppy falling out the back of a pickup truck. The puppy, named Buddy, made its way back home. The pet owners were overjoyed. Not because of sentimental reasons, but because they just sold Buddy via a website they made with GoDaddy. Archie The Bear No matter what type of animal they are, pet owners love their pets. In Ohio, Jeff and Debbie Gillium are trying to maintain custody of their black bear, named Archie. Archie was rescued as a cub from a terrible home and is now in his late 30s. Ohio is forcing the Gilliums to surrender Archie the bear. The couple loves Archie. They just want the bear to live out his final years with them. The state of Ohio is saying the couple does not have the proper permit to keep the bear and a permit cannot be issued to them. A petition to support the couple and Archie the bear has been started. Zombie Cat There's been an animal news story out of Tampa, Florida about a zombie cat. This cat supposedly rose from the dead. Zombie cat has a real name, Bart. Here's Bart's story.Bart was run over by a car and appeared lifeless. The pet owner was too emotional to bury his beloved cat so he had a friend do it for him. Bart appeared dead to the owner's friend, so he buried him. The pet owner, Ellis Hutson, was shocked when Bart showed up back at his house 5 days later. Thus, the story of 'zombie cat' was born. The pet owner couldn't afford to have Zombie Cat treated so he reached out to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. They were able to get Bart the necessary surgeries. Bart had an eye removed and his jaw repaired.Zombie Cat will not be returned to the pet owner, according to the Tampa Bay Humane Center. They are suspicious of the circumstances on how Bart came to be buried and rise from the grave. A custody battle will probably ensue since Zombie Cat might rival the popularity and financial success of Grumpy Cat. News Anchor Jokes About Zombie Cat Buffalo, New York news anchor, Teresa Weakley, laughed and commented on air about Zombie Cat. Teresa Weakley said "maybe it should have been buried deeper." Many outraged pet owners went on Teresa Weakley's Facebook page to respond to her comment. All the negative comments were constantly deleted. Teresa Weakley Update There was an online petition demanding an apology from Teresa Weakley. Her comment of Zombie Cat really riled up a lot of pet owners. The WIVB News 4 anchor explains her Zombie Cat comments. She even posted a video on Facebook apologizing for what she said. Well, sort of. The apology seemed forced, of course, and you can see the movement of her eyes reading the teleprompter. Also In Episode 23 It's Super Bowl Sunday! Bad Parenting: What Makes a Bad Parent?
What exactly is bad parenting? Who actually decides whether or not someone is a bad parent? Nowadays, almost everyone is a judge and has an opinion on how you should raise your child. Here are some bad parenting examples. But are they really? Form your own opinion if these stories are cases of bad parenting.Episode 22 show notes and links are available at letstrashtalk.com/22 Bad Parenting Stories If you let your children walk home alone, is this considered bad parenting? Well, in Montgomery County, Maryland, two parents are being considered prime candidates. Alexander and Danielle Meitiv trusted their 10 year old son and 6 year old daughter to walk home from a park. A person noticed the kids walking home alone and alerted the police. The police spoke with the parents and are in legal trouble for possible neglect. Child Protective Services is investigating and has threatened the Meitivs with losing custody of their kids. CPS and the local police have essentially labeled the parents' actions as bad parenting.A South Carolina mother was arrested for leaving her 9 year old daughter alone to play in a park. Debra Harrell let her daughter play at a nearby park while she was at work. She was arrested for not supervising her kid. The mother spent time in jail and her 9 year old daughter was placed in foster care for 17 days. Debra Harrell can still receive 10 years in prison if convicted of felony child neglect. Bad Parenting and the Law Do you believe these two stories were cases of bad parenting? The opinions are most likely mixed. So what about the law? Surely there must be legal guidelines that can determine if these people are guilty of bad parenting. Unfortunately, not exactly. In the case of the Maryland parents, Maryland law prohibits children under the age of 8 from being left unattended in a vehicle or in a dwelling. However, these two children were walking home from a park. Maryland law makes no reference to the outdoors. What about the South Carolina mother? Do the laws in her state classify bad parenting? South Carolina law does criminalize leaving a child at unreasonable risk of harm affecting the child's life or safety. The law does not specify whether a child can be left alone without supervision. Both these cases leave it up to the discretion of prosecutors, police, and child protective services. This doesn't seem sensible in the eyes of a parent. Their ideals on how you raise your children may not mirror your own. Free Range Kids Movement Lenore Skenazy founded the Free Range Kids movement. This woman was dubbed "America's Worst Mom" by the media in 2008. This occurred because Lenore Skenazy allowed her 9 year old son to ride the New York subway by himself. The philosophy behind the Free Range Kids movement is that children need to be raised to be self-reliant. Those who don't raise their kids in this way are "helicopter" parents. Helicopter parents believe their child is so vulnerable that they have to hover over the child like a helicopter, ready to swoop in if anything remotely bad happens. Is the Free Range Kids movement right or just another case of bad parenting? Also In Episode 22 Here are some of the other stories covered in this podcast episode. Drones A drone was found on the White House grounds. It didn't seem to pose a threat to anybody at the White House. President Obama was not at the White House at the time of the incident. The controller of the drone was drunk. He lost control of the drone and it went down at the White House. He hasn't been charged with a crime. Celebrity Requests Pardon Mark Wahlberg wants to be pardoned for hate crimes he committed in the late 1980s. He says it's to be an example to troubled youths that you can turn your life around. Others say it's because some states won't issue a liquor license for his restaurant because of his felon status.

Food Service Industry Workers Get Mistreated - 21
The food service industry is a tough field to work in. Generally, if you're a waiter, waitress, or even a pizza delivery guy, you will experience some form of mistreatment at some point. This point was emphasized in a recent video that went viral. We talk about this story and how poorly the people in the food service industry are treated.Episode 21 show notes and links are available at letstrashtalk.com/21 Example of Food Service Industry Mistreatment A viral video shows just how cruel people can be. A Massachusetts pizza delivery guy, Jarrid Tansey, was harassed by car dealership workers over a $7 tip. This poor man had delivered about $42 worth of pizza and food to F&R Auto Sales. The used car dealership staff gave Jarrid two $20 bills and two $5 bills. The staff did not ask him for change so he assumed it was his tip. However, this wasn't the case. An employee of the dealership called the Pizzeria and demanded that Jarrid return the $7 change. Let The Pizza Delivery Abuse Begin Jarrid Tansey should receive some sort of award from the food service industry for the patience he displayed. Jarrid returned to the used car dealership during his break time. This is the point where the viral video starts. The dealership employees berate and harass Jarrid Tansey over the measly $7 "tip." The entire time, Jarrid remained calm, cool, and collected.F&R Auto Sales' tech or IT guy talked down to the pizza delivery man like he was beneath him. He also threatened to further humiliate Jarrid by releasing the security footage, which he ended up doing. A saleswoman told Jarrid to "get out the door before I put my foot up your ass." Then proceed to make an obscene "jerking off" gesture. Once the pizza delivery guy left, another worker started getting excited.
