Even though known internationally as “Mr. Whitetail” because of his many years of researching, managing, hunting and promoting whitetail deer and their habitat, Larry has hunted big game throughout North America, Africa, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Asia and Europe. Larry grew up in rural southern Texas. He attended Texas A&M University where he earned a B.S. Degree in Wildlife Science. After serving as a wildlife biologist with Texas A&M University’s Department of Veterinary Pathology and later the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department as Technical Assistance Biologist for South Texas where he worked with landowners and hunters in establishing and maintaining quality wildlife management programs, he left State employment and established his own wildlife management company, Wildlife Resources. As a professional wildlife biologist Larry has established quality wildlife management programs on 12,000,000 acres. His research has been published in numerous professional journals and he has frequently served as a featured speaker at international wildlife symposiums devoted to wildlife conservation and outdoor recreation.Larry too, long served as a featured speaker for the NRA and the NRA’s Great American Hunters Tour. As an outdoor writer Weishuhn served on staff with Shooting Times, Deer & Deer Hunting, North American Hunter, Sports Afield, Petersen’s Hunting, Sporting Classics, Game Trails and many others. He has authored over 3,000 feature articles and columns. He has written seven award-winning books including his most recent, “Trailing the Hunter’s Moon, The Adventure Continues”. Larry currently serves as the whitetail columnist for Texas Fish & Game and executive field editor for DSC’s Game Trails and freelances to numerous publications. He writes regular blogs for Hornady’s Bullet Points, Dallas Safari Club and other websites. Larry is a popular after-dinner speaker and Master of Ceremonies for groups which support hunting and conservation throughout North America and beyond. Weishuhn has long served as a host or co-host for many award-winning outdoor television shows including his current “DSC’s Trailing the Hunter’s Moon”, which is co-hosted by Blake Barnett and who now owns the show, in its twelveth season and airs on the Pursuit Channel, Carbon TV as well as on YouTube and numerous digital platforms. Larry’s shows have been awarded numerous juried Telly Awards and have been nominated for Emmy's. Larry has been doing a weekly Saturday morning radio segment, “Campfire Talk with Larry Weishuhn” on Luke Clayton Outdoors since 2010, which is heard on stations through Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Arkansas and Louisiana as well as internet radio provided to our armed forces abroad. He frequently guests on outdoor radio shows throughout North America, particularly Billy Kinder Outdoors on Sirius Radio. In June 2019 Larry launched his popular weekly “DSC’s Untamed Heritage” podcast which is available wherever podcasts can be accessed. Weishuhn hunts big game with Ruger rifles and handguns, topped with Trijicon scopes, shooting Hornady ammunition. Asked his favorite hunt, his answer is always, “The next one I’m going on”. Larry serves as a brand ambassador for Ruger and Dallas Safari Club. He has served as a judge for the Extreme Huntress Contest since its inception. Weishuhn is a Professional Member of the Boone & Crockett Club and is one of three co-founders of the Texas Wildlife Association, as well as life member of Dallas Safari Club, National Rifle Association, Wild Sheep Foundation, Mule Deer Foundation and other conservation-based organizations. In 2007 Larry was inducted into the National Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame. In January 2016 he was presented the prestigious Zeiss Lifetime Achievement Award and later that year inducted into the Muy Grande Hall of Fame. He currently serves on the DSC Foundation Board of Directors.
