Wow, listening to Paige and Cedric share their birth story was so much fun and made us about 20x more in awe of the power of women, their bodies, and their babies during birth in general, but in Paige specifically! Paige’s two birth stories are vastly different, but both full of twists and turns, including a 6 hour pushing phase (!!!), mid-labor shower sex (!!!), and a shoulder dystocia (!!!). Her births were attended by Nancy Pol and Lindsey Meehleis respectively, two rock-star amazing midwives who practice in Orange County. Lindsey was the midwife for our pregnancy and birth of our first baby, too! This is my favorite episode that we’ve recorded so far! We go through the process of what a hospital birth looks like, from admission during labor to the time after the baby is here before you’re discharged. I recall some of my experiences as a doula supporting women in hospital settings, and go over some of the things people might not realize happen during birth at a hospital. How can the man/partner support the birthing woman’s choices and desires and not “disallow” her or make her feel bad for wanting to choose her own birth experience, whether that’s in hospital or out of hospital or unassisted or what. What does it look and feel like to trust that the birthing woman knows best? What would the world be like if women and birthing people were trusted to give birth in their power and all had the experience that THEY wanted for themselves? Hello all! I’ve teamed up with my lovely husband Taylor to talk about my favorite topics: pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, from the female and the male perspectives! Our first episode covers the birth stories of our two children. We talk about the differences, the similarities, and the lessons we learned from both experiences. We both have learned a lot about supporting each other in the time since I’ve given birth to our daughter, so we talk a lot about that and about how the role of men in birth has changed over time in our culture.
