Your sabotaging your hiring efforts & don't even know it! (A quick lesson in Tribalism)
People aren't that hard to work out, employees, employers or otherwise. For over 100,000 years we've been doing the same thing....moving in tribes. In order to be a part of that tribe, the rest of the tribe needs to trust us & we need to trust the tribe, break that trust, you break the contract. The tribe suffers. In the business world, when the tribe starts to weaken, people will look for other tribes. If you're the head of that tribe, you're the one having to pick up the slack, maintain the integrity. As the leader, you need to replace those tribal members. But what if your actions, or the actions of your team, though not deliberate or done with malice, are eroding the perception of your tribe - what if these actions are turning people away before they've even finished the catchy job post headline you've paid Seek $300 to host? I believe in the "Employer of Choice" approach. It's what I've advocated for, as a chef, manager & now as The Kitchen Coach, while working with hospitality clients. If you're an Employer of Choice, you'll never have to advertise again. Ahhhhhhhh, imagine all that extra time & money saved!!! So what's an example of this "erosion of trust" that I believe is affecting many? Consider how many times we see chef roles advertised, with an arbitrary number attached to it, 70k, 80k, 90k 150k and then the comments that ensue. So many people negging, something to add, without adding value. These comments are made by People, who are representing their TRIBE. They're representative of themselves sure, but in their comments is also the reflection of their workplace, workmates & the CULTURE of the workplace. Essentially, Don't get me wrong, we're almost all guilty of doing this at some stage in our "social media lives". I know I have. So what does this really mean...... If your tribe is known as a safe place, where those in the tribe are respected, valued, heard, appreciated & seen, you'll never need to advertise. You'll be an employer of choice - it's what I advocate & coach those that are willing to do the work, to do. That means looking at how we represent online. How we comment & interact. If we're building others up or tearing down. If we're seeking to understand & know or if we are simply assuming & reacting. The most common place of this is specifically related to wages. It's seen in the hospitality industry by some that to able to throw huge sums of money at mid-level cookery positions is a badge of honour..... but is it? Could it be that paying 30-40% more than industry standard is a result of the poor culture within your workplace, therefore the only incentive to offer IS money. Because money DOES NOT make people happy. It only motivates people to turn up for finite period. Without the right Tribe around them, even the best paid staff will eventually move onto the next, better paying tribe. So here's why we all need to be little more aware of what we're doing online........ I can't believe I'm about to give away one of my biggest secrets!! But, I hope this helps some managers become leaders, and helps a few businesses improve. I know this has helped dozens of my students find their TRIBE & success. Here goes. Myself and many other trainers across all industries have a little thing we advise students to do - we tell them to join the social media groups of that industry - I tell them to keep a list, of every person who leaves a comment that makes them feel uncomfortable. Because that's not a person they'd want to be in a tribe with is it? Considering how many trainers & coaches I know, that use groups as a means to inspire clients & students in how to find who they WANT to be in a tribe with, by way of identifying everyone they DON'T WANT to work in a tribe with..... That's a lot of eyes watching you, represent your tribe. I hope this helps. Like & share, comment (and we'll see if the message has been understood😉)

Ever had your arse kicked so hard it let an impression 30 years on?
A lesson from a long lost memory of cricket practice that left such a lasting impression - on my backside and appreciation for accepting that unless you're doing the work yourself, you're not in a position to chastise or belittle others who are yet don't hit the mark all the time.
