7. You Need Mentors, Sponsors, and a Personal Board of Directors
7. You Need Mentors, Sponsors, and a Personal Board of Directors This is the seventh and last episode of our series on creating a career plan for diverse lawyers. In this episode, we’ll discuss the importance of having mentors, sponsors and a Personal Board of Directors. “Research conducted by the Center for Talent Innovation revealed that approximately 81% of diverse professionals needed help navigating their organizations. So having a mentor to help navigate the complex waters of a law firm can be extremely beneficial to diverse attorneys.” A sponsor, on the other hand, will advocate for you in places where important decisions are made. Your board of directors will provide a broad range of opinions and support when you are making important decisions that you do not necessarily want to discuss within your firm. The bottom line is that successful lawyers leverage all three of these types of relationships. Make sure your career plan includes all three. Be coached by a seasoned female diverse attorney, plan and achieve your professional goals. Visit Legally Balanced.
