Introspection, Healing And Being Present With Nicholas Janni
In this special episode, John talks to Teacher, Coach and Author, Nicholas Janni. Nicholas has a fascinating background. His father was a world-famous film producer, and his mother was one of the first women to gain a scholarship to Oxford University. An impressive family indeed but Nicholas certainly worked extremely hard to get to where he is today. With early influence from his father, Nicholas began his first career in the theatre and worked as a Theatre Director for 20 years. He later left the theatre, creating a consultancy which grew and grew and continues to work with Executives around the world today. Nicholas now teaches at two of the top business schools in the world, University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School and the IMD Business School in Switzerland. He has also taken a leap out on his own and has now written a fascinating book entitled ‘Leader as Healer’. Nicholas’s book, ‘Leader as Healer’, argues that an urgent upgrade is needed in how managers must think and practice leadership. The type of leadership that Nicholas discusses in his book is necessary in a post-COVID world. During this episode, John and Nicholas talk about the importance of introspection, the existing toxicity in many current leaders and how we are moving forward with this with a new type of leadership. John even follows a live teaching practice from Nicholas! Do you use healing to help you lead? Tune in to this episode for a great conversation on modern day leadership. It can make the biggest difference. If you are a leader and you are running a stressful meeting, are you confident enough to recognise this type of environment and are you comfortable enough to address it and relieve the tension and anxiety in the room?   BEST MOMENTS “Most people have no idea what real listening means for instance, because real listening involves all of my faculties. Not just my thinking. Not just my speaking”. “In essence, I talk a lot about doing and being and we’re absolutely over-dominated by doing. We’ve lost a sense for the most part of being”. “When you’re in the presence of a leader who is really present, first of all you feel listened to. You feel received. That's priceless”. “If you’re not curious about people, don’t be a leader”.   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast Castledene Sales & Lettings   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and Letting Agencies in the North-East of England. Leaders Are Readers
In this episode, John delves into the significance of reading and why this task helps to create stronger leaders. John is an avid reader himself (as you’ll know from previous episodes) and has a sizeable library of great books. Reading has helped John to improve on many of his existing traits, including how to communicate better, empathy, critical thinking, and other areas. John touches on how reading can make you a better, more well-rounded person, using Winston Churchill as an example of how reading changed John’s original belief on him. Whether you own a business, manage a team or are a part of the workforce yourself, reading will help you. The skills that John talks about in this episode are vital in being a great team leader and becoming a better communicator. How many books per month do you read? Tune into this episode if you want to learn how reading can improve your mental health and make you a better person.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Reading creates a stronger mindset. When reading and learning about a specific topic, read from different perspectives and authors. This helps to develop unbiased and informed opinions. Reading expands your vocabulary and communication skills. You will likely come across words you haven’t heard before or don’t know the real definition of. You can then go away and learn about these words and start to use them in your everyday life.   BEST MOMENTS “The more you read, the more information you will retain and the more you will actually know”. “Reading a lot of books on different topics, also makes you more interesting”.   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast Castledene Sales & Lettings   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and Letting Agencies in the North East of England. Confidence, Consistency And Dealing With Inner Critics With Beth Hope
In this special episode, John talks to Executive Confidence Coach, Beth Hope. Beth is a true expert in her field. She is a qualified coach and has a MSc in Psychology and neuroscience of mental health. During their time together, John and Beth talk all things confidence, how to achieve a higher level of confidence and the art of ‘active listening’. Beth states on her website that confidence underpins everything we do. This is very true. In our personal and professional lives, we all possess a certain level of confidence. We also deal with internal monologues and inner critics that can get the better of us in situations that we wish weren’t happening. Beth provides some fantastic advice and tips on how to deal with your inner critic. This is honestly a great conversation and John took a lot away from the interview with Beth and you will too. If you are working on self-improvement and want to boost your authentic confidence, this is the episode for you. How confidently fit are you? Tune in to this episode for an informative chat on boosting your confidence at work.   Follow Beth on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/andhopelifecoaching/ Visit Beth’s website - https://www.andhope.co.uk/ Email Beth - beth@andhope.co.uk   KEY TAKEAWAYS A big misconception is people think you either have or you don’t have confidence. We all possess a level of confidence. You need to ask yourself how confidently fit you currently are and what you can do to train yourself to be more confident. See failure as an opportunity to learn and to grow. Without missteps, it’s hard to keep climbing.   BEST MOMENTS “Fundamental to coaching and I’ve been asked ‘What’s the most effective tool?’ and all of that, and my answer is always going to be active listening, and I think the key to that is active”. “I always say with clients and through the coaching process, is structure or any of these things that we work on, it’s about creating a climbing frame not a cage”. “Everyone always likes to tell you that buying and selling houses is one of the most stressful kinds of life experiences that we go through, and you have the opportunity to make that calm for someone as much as possible”.   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leadership Revealed Podcast Castledene Sales & Lettings   ABOUT THE HOST John has several Estate and Letting Agencies in the North-East of England.
