After doing so, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When it was evening he was there alone. Meanwhile the boat, already a few miles offshore, was being tossed about by the waves, for the wind was against it. During the fourth watch of the night, he came toward them walking on the sea. When the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified. “It is a ghost,” they said, and they cried out in fear. At once Jesus spoke to them, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” Peter said to him in reply, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw how strong the wind was he became frightened; and, beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught Peter, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” After they got into the boat, the wind died down. Those who were in the boat did him homage, saying, “Truly, you are the Son of God.” -Matthew 14:22-33 "Because Jacob loved Rachel, he answered, 'I will serve you seven years for your younger daughter Rachel.' Far be it from you! Should not the judge of all the world do what is just?”g26The LORD replied: If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.27Abraham spoke up again: “See how I am presuming to speak to my Lord, though I am only dust and ashes!h28What if there are five less than fifty righteous people? Will you destroy the whole city because of those five?” I will not destroy it, he answered, if I find forty-five there.29But Abraham persisted, saying, “What if only forty are found there?” He replied: I will refrain from doing it for the sake of the forty.30Then he said, “Do not let my Lord be angry if I go on. What if only thirty are found there?” He replied: I will refrain from doing it if I can find thirty there.31Abraham went on, “Since I have thus presumed to speak to my Lord, what if there are no more than twenty?” I will not destroy it, he answered, for the sake of the twenty.32But he persisted: “Please, do not let my Lord be angry if I speak up this last time. What if ten are found there?” For the sake of the ten, he replied, I will not destroy it.i 33The LORD departed as soon as he had finished speaking with Abraham, and Abraham returned home.” Genesis 18: 22-33 “53Are you greater than our father Abraham,* who died? Or the prophets, who died? Who do you make yourself out to be?”f54Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is worth nothing; but it is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’55You do not know him, but I know him. And if I should say that I do not know him, I would be like you a liar. But I do know him and I keep his word.g56Abraham your father rejoiced to see my day; he saw it* and was glad.h57So the Jews said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old and you have seen Abraham?”*58* Jesus said to them,i “Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I AM.” John 8:53-58 “God has all eternity in which to listen to the split second of prayer put up by a pilot as his plane crashes in flames.” Mere Christianity by C.S. Let Freedom. . . Reign?
Episode Notes: Happy Independence Day! This topic came up completely unrelated to the 4th of July holiday, but upon reflection it couldn’t have taken place on a more appropriate date! “Can’t see the forest for the trees.” Does the Black Lives Matter movement move us to look more deeply at our own faults and imperfections, or does it fan in us a level of indignant pride? Based on your answer to this question, what does that say about you? What should we think about the current call to remove sacred art that depicts religious figures in certain skin colors? The Calling of Saint Matthew, by Caravaggio. This is the painting Matt refers to during the podcast in which the artist depicts Jesus and His apostles at 17th century Italians. What are your thoughts on the state mandate that all peoples must wear a mask in public? To Know, Or Not To Know
Episode Notes: “It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” -C.S. Lewis “The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult; and left untried.” G. K. Should We Flee to the Mountains?
Kyel and Matt discuss the overall climate in our current society surrounding racial injustices and the various reactions coming from groups with differing points of view. As Christians, how should we view all of this? Are we finding ourselves losing our peace in the midst of all the civil unrest? What did Jesus and the Apostles teach us that might be useful for us to keep in mind when the world seems to be falling apart around us?

Episode Notes Happy Pentecost Sunday! Communication is key to any good marriage. As husbands, how do we conduct ourselves as a loving servant, without becoming a doormat? Look to Jesus as our guide for how to serve those we love. “So, during supper, fully aware that the Father had put everything into his power and that he had come from God and was returning to God, he rose from supper and took off his outer garments. He took a towel and tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and dry them with the towel around his waist. He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Master, are you going to wash my feet?’ Jesus answered and said to him, ‘What I am doing, you do not understand now, but you will understand later.’ Peter said to him, ‘You will never wash my feet.’ Jesus answered him, ‘Unless I wash you, you will have no inheritance with me.’ Simon Peter said to him, ‘Master, then not only my feet, but my hands and head as well.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Whoever has bathed has no need except to have his feet washed, for he is clean all over; so you are clean, but not all.’ For he knew who would betray him; for this reason, he said, ‘Not all of you are clean.’ So when he had washed their feet and put his garments back on and reclined at table again, he said to them, ‘Do you realize what I have done for you? You call me ‘teacher” and ‘master,’ and rightly so, for indeed I am. If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet. I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should do also. Amen, amen, I say to you, no slave is greater than his master nor any messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you understand this, blessed are you if you do it.” John 13: 2-17 Who do we serve; ourselves, or our loved ones whom God has placed in our care? Are we using household chores as a means to escape from the more important tasks God has placed in front of you? "When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things." 1 Corinthians 13:11

Kyel and Matt discuss the topic of “root sins”, namely: Pride, Vanity, and Sensuality. What are they? How do they manifest themselves? How do we counteract them? They also go on a fairly lengthy tangent regarding feminine qualities in men. Enjoy! EPISODE NOTES: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God. Consider how he endured such opposition from sinners, in order that you may not grow weary and lose heart. In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood. You have also forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons: “My son, do not disdain the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when reproved by him; for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines; he scourges every son he acknowledges.’ Endure your trials as discipline; God treats you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are without discipline, in which all have shared, you are not sons but bastards.” Hebrews 12:1-8 "The Imitation of Christ" - Thomas A Kempis https://www.amazon.com/Imitation-Christ-Zippered-Cover/dp/1618902156/ref=sr_1_8?crid=3N1Z9DRQ0TBCJ&dchild=1&keywords=imitation+of+christ+thomas+a+kempis&qid=1589167680&s=books&sprefix=imitation+%2Cstripbooks%2C172&sr=1-8
