NCAA Lacrosse Tourney, Day 1 Recaps, Princeton, Penn, Yale & Virginia Advance, UVA Spoils Ivy Attempt To Sweep (LaxFactor Podcast #208)
NCAA Tournament Day 1, Princeton, Penn, Yale Win, Virginia Prevents Ivy Sweep (LaxFactor Podcast #208) The first day of the NCAA Lacrosse Tournament kicked off on Saturday with four games being played through the day and I sat down and watched every minute of every game. Princeton took the first contest of the day over Boston University. Erik Peters stopped 15 of the 20 shots he faced on the day, Chris Brown put up 5 assists and Princeton rolled to victory. Richmond scared the hell out of Penn forcing Penn to tie the game late to force overtime. Penn would win the first possession of OT and score the game winner, a beautifully drawn up play executed to perfection, Ben Smith scores said game winner, and the Ivies are now 2-0 on the day. St. Joe's put up a great showing against Yale. Levi Anderson a guy I've slept on all season put up 3 goals in the loss and St. Joe's had a 9-6 lead at one point in this game before Yale took the wheel and squeaked out a 2 goal victory. Matt Brandau and Leo Johnson each put up 4 goals and 2 helpers while Chris Lyons went 3 & 3 in the Yale win. The last game of the day, Virginia at Brown gave the Ivy League a chance to sweep the day and go 4-0.  But Virginia and Connor Shellenberger had other plans.  Shelly went for 4 goals and 4 assists on the day, Cormier chipped in 5 goals, and UVA used a second half surge to drop Bruno 17-10. I'll also briefly touch on some Division III scores towards the end of this show. RIT spanked Albion 22-6. Union continued their great run dropping John Carroll 14-7. Salisbury got past Stockton by 9 goals, Tufts murdered Norwich  33-10, St. Lawrence just got past Cortland 15-14, Gettysburg over Roanoke 14-8, Lynchburg got beat by Western New England, Wesleyan took down RPI, York over Denison and so on. Maryland Wins B1G, Georgetown Tops Nova, Vermont & Manhattan Clinch & More (LaxFactor Podcast #206)
Maryland proved they are absolute monsters with their statement win over Rutgers on Saturday in the Big Ten Championship. Logan Wisnauskas and company are good all over the field and Maryland locked up the #1 seed without question. Georgetown made a solid argument as to why they deserve the #2 seed by capping their 1 loss season with a win over Villanova.  Despite only winning by 2 goals, the game was never in question. We'll also talk about Manhattan's win over St. Bonaventure in the MAAC title game.  We'll touch on Vermont defeating UMBC in the America East title game. We'll also talk about Richmond over Jacksonville, Robert Morris over Utah and a bunch more. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/laxfactor/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/laxfactor/support

Yale & Loyola Need Sudden Death, Ivy Is Chaos, Patriot Excites & More (LaxFactor Podcast #205)
The Ivy has been insane all season long. That chaos was on full display in Yale's OT win over Harvard. Thomas Bragg scorched one in OT, yet another man-up goal for Bragg to win the game for Yale. Loyola also needed OT to win their regular season finale. It was Kevin Lindley scoring a man up goal on a dish from Aiden Olmstead to secure the sudden death for Lehigh and give Loyola a much needed win. Loyola is back to 500 heading into the Patriot League Tournament. Army and Boston University both put their 10-3 records on the line, and it was the Black Knights that picked up the win, improved to 11-3 on the season and is now well positioned for the Patriot tournament. Army has a solid shot at winning the tournament the way they've played, but even if they don't, an at large should probably be in their future. We'll talk about those games and much more in this weeks LaxFactor Lacrosse Podcast. Xavier Arline QBs Navy To Win Over Army, Patriot & Ivy League Insanity (LaxFactor Podcast #204)
Army hosted Navy in the annual Army/Navy lacrosse game on Saturday and it was Lax Twitter's favorite, Xavier Arline that helped quarterback Navy to a win over Army. He finished the game with 2 goals and 2 assists, and Jack Sweeney scored a man up goal in OT and Navy wins the ballgame. Penn State gave Rutgers all the Scarlet Knights could handle and in the process scared the crap out of poor Rutgers. Rutgers needed a Ross Scott goal with just 8 seconds in regulation to force overtime, and it was Scott again in OT to give Rutgers the win. The Patriot League insanity continued with Boston University clinching their first ever regular season Patriot League title with a last second win over host Lehigh. Tim Ley scored the game winner in dramatic fashion, a left handed back-handed bouncer from the low crease. Loyola needed overtime to beat Colgate, the winner a feed from Aiden Olmstead down to Evan James who used some soft hands to put the ball in the back of the net for the Greyhound win. We'll also talk about Brown taking it to Cornell, Princeton losing to Harvard, Maryland waxed Johns Hopkins, Syracuse lost to Virginia, Notre Dame beat North Carolina earlier in the week and we'll talk about a lot more. Carolina Ends Syracuse's Season, Maryland Too Much For Ohio State & More (LaxFactor Podcast #203)
Syracuse gave all they had to try and fight their way back into their contest against North Carolina on Saturday, but the comeback bid came up short. After taking a 1-goal lead with just over 2-minutes to play, the Syracuse defense gave up 2 goals in the final minutes to allow UNC to pick up the victory in regulation, mathematically ending Syracuse's season. Chris Gray had 5 goals and an assist in the win, and second year goalie Colin Krieg made 18 saves in the win for UNC. Ohio State gave Maryland a really tough time through 3 quarters, but Maryland continued to attack the OSU defense through the 4th and used that aggressive style of offense to outscore OSU 7-1 over the final 15 minutes giving Maryland the easy win. Logan Wisnauskas put up 5 goals and 2 helpers on the day for the Terps. Lehigh got dropped by Colgate in overtime, an unexpected loss that ruined their perfect Patriot League record. Rutgers needed every save they could get out of Colin Kirst as his 15 saves against Michigan were enough to hold off the Michigan rally. Albany Drops Syracuse, Jacksonville Tops Richmond, UVA Rolls UNC & More (LaxFactor Podcast #202)
It was heartbreak for the Syracuse faithful  on Thursday night as the Orange took on UAlbany on the road and came away with a loss. Albany played incredible defense forcing Syracuse into 21 turnovers and Will Ramos made 15 saves for the Danes in victory. Graydon Hogg put up 4 goals off just 8 shots and freshman Thomas Decker contributed 3 goals and a helper. In some D3 lacrosse action, RIT held off undefeated Union for a one-goal win at home on Saturday. The Tigers man-up unit went 3 of 5 on the day and Marley Angus had himself a day scoring 4 goals and contributing 2 assists in the conference win. The Virginia Cavaliers rode a slow but steady offensive wave to victory over visiting North Carolina. Petey LaSalla did end up playing after being injured last weekend and won 10 of 18 of his draws. Payton Cormier scored 4 goals and had an assist and Case Saustad and Grayson Sallade each forced two turnovers in a brilliant defensive effort by UVA. Matthew Nunes, the rookie keeper made 13 stops against 17 shots. Jacksonville was able to top Richmond in a SoCon matchup thanks to great defense and timely saves. Yale floored Dartmouth and scored 20+ for the second week in a row.  Notre Dame saved their season by outlasting Duke and much, much more. Syracuse Tops Duke, Virginia Over Notre Dame, Ivy League Gets Wierd & More (LaxFactor Podcast #199)
Syracuse hosted Duke on Saturday in the Carrier Dome and Tucker Dordevic had himself a day in Cuse's 14-10 win over the Blue Devils netting 5 goals and 2 assists including a bonkers one-handed between the legs finish to give the Orange a 2 goal lead late in the game and ice the Duke comeback bid. In other action, Virginia handled Notre Dame 12-8 and Connor Shellenberger continued his dominance with a 3 goal, 2 assist effort. In a big Patriot League matchup, Brendan Nichtern showed why he's one of the best attackmen in the country scoring 3 goals and 4 assists on the day, with 2 goals and 3 assists coming over a 4th quarter stretch that saw Army take the lead and pull away for the win. The Ivy League has been odd in both their dominance against non-league foes, as well as in how Saturday played out. We saw the two higher ranked Ivies lose to their rivals with Princeton losing to Yale, and Cornell losing to Penn. We'll talk about these games and many more in todays show. Ivy Produces Multiple 1-Goal Games, Maryland Thumps Virginia, Syracuse Wins & More (LaxFactor #198)
The Penn and Princeton lacrosse squads produced an instant college lacrosse classic with Princeton hanging on for an OT victory over their Ivy League rival. It was the Ivy League that put out the most exciting games of the day as Cornell edged Yale by a goal and Harvard held on for a 1-goal win over Brown. In other action, the Big Ten continued their winning ways over ACC foes as Maryland trounced Virginia 23-12. Syracuse went into the half tied with Stony Brook before Tucker Dordevic caught fire and put up 5 goals and 2 assists over the 3rd and 4th quarters helping the Orange to a victory. Army and Lehigh did battle in Patriot League action and it was Mike Sisselberger's dominance at the face-off dot, winning 17 of 25 draws that allowed Lehigh to edge Army by a goal. We'll also discuss Loyola getting their 3rd win in a row against Bucknell in other Patriot action. Georgetown whopped up on Utah, Binghamton did the same to Albany, Rutgers trashed on Hofstra and much more. Week 5 Recaps: Virginia Tops UNC, Ivy League Shows Up, Ohio State Is Good (LaxFactor Podcast #196)
We started the weekend early with a Thursday night ACC showdown between Virginia and North Carolina that saw Connor Shellenberger put up big numbers while helping the Cav's to a big victory over their conference rival. The Ivy League showed up in a big way, starting with Princeton beating Rutgers (and I forgot to talk about that one) on Friday. But Harvard beat Michigan, Brown took down a very good Stony Brook team and Cornell squeaked one out against Penn State by a goal. Richmond couldn't handle Georgetown and the same was true for Notre Dame with Ohio State. The Hoyas and the Buckeyes each got themselves a big win against a quality opponent on Saturday. There are still many quality games to be played today (Sunday) with Syracuse taking on Hopkins, Duke facing Loyola, and Denver doing battle with Yale. Week 5 Previews: Cuse/Hopkins & Virginia/UNC Headline a Great Weekend (LaxFactor Podcast #195)
Another great weekend of lacrosse with some big rivalry games in play starting with Virginia at North Carolina tonight on ESPN. Nothing better than Thursday night ACC Lacrosse on ESPN. It ends with one of the most storied rivalries in lacrosse, Syracuse will hit the road to take on Johns Hopkins in a battle of two teams still struggling to find some consistency. Beyond that, we'll talk about some D3 action with both Tufts and RIT playing key games this week, and we'll also dive into Binghamton hosting Fairfield, Stony Brook traveling to face Brown, High Point looking to improve their record against Robert Morris. Other great matchups include Notre Dame vs Ohio State, Cornell vs Penn State and a big instate rivalry between Princeton and Rutgers. Even better, that won't be it. Week 4 College Lacrosse Recaps: Carolina, Maryland & Rutgers Win By Inches (LaxFactor Podcast #194)
What a great weekend of college lacrosse that treated us to a bunch of really close games, including our first upset of a top three team. Georgetown got dropped by Princeton thanks to an incredible defensive effort by the Tigers lead by goalie Erik Peters 16 saves. North Carolina and Denver did serious battle for a full 60 minutes and it was Chris Gray scoring his 6th goal of the game that gave Carolina the victory with just over a minute left in the contest. Notre Dame gave Maryland a good run, but the Terps Kyle Long scored the dagger goal giving Maryland an 11-9 lead late in the fourth quarter and that score stuck. Rutgers and Stony Brook went back and forth for much of the contest early on before Rutgers jumped out to a 17-12 lead. Stony Brook wouldn't die easily though battling back to within a goal and forcing Colin Kirst to make a huge save on the games final possession holding fort for Rutgers. Yale took down UMass in overtime, Cornell disrupted Ohio States clearing game and pulled away for a 14-11 win over the Buckeyes, Michigan showed they are a legit team with an 18-8 statement win over a quality Delaware squad. Week 4 Previews w/ Army/Syracuse Recap, Notre Dame vs Maryland on Saturday (LaxFactor Podcast #193)
In this weeks college lacrosse weekend preview show, we'll start with the Army & Syracuse weekday showdown that saw Army defeat the Orange in the dome ruining a perfectly fine Wednesday evening for me. But after that we'll get into the weekend previews of games that should be pretty great. The biggest being Notre Dame hosting Maryland. I like the Terps to win, but it should be a heck of a game overall as these two teams match up well all over the field. Beyond that, other games we'll discuss, Johns Hopkins at Virginia, Ohio State at Cornell, Michigan will show us how good they really are against a very good Delaware, Denver at North Carolina, Richmond at Duke, Princeton at Georgetown, Rutgers hits the road against an undefeated Stony Brook and much more. Week 3 Recaps: Petey's Revenge, Georgetown Knows Defense, Penn & Richmond In OT (LaxFactor #192)
What a weekend of college lacrosse week #3 brought us. In this weeks recap show, we're going to start by talking about how Virginia dismantled Syracuse, partly thanks to Petey LaSalla getting revenge on Phaup. Connor Shellenberger going off for 7 points didn't hurt Virginia either. The Georgetown defense proved it is every bit as good as advertised by holding off a late Notre Dame comeback bid and beating the Irish and taking their Soda Bread and Irish Stew. Owen McElroy made 24 saves on the day for the Hoyas, 11 of them coming in the 4th quarter to help secure the Gtown victory. High Point and Navy did battle, and despite Navy holding a small lead through most of the game, Asher Nolting (3g, 5a) and company managed to battle back, take a late lead, hold off Navy's attempts to re-take the lead and Michael Ippolito's 4th goal of the second half ended up being the game winner for High Point. In addition to all of these great games, we'll also talk about Penn State waking up and defeating Yale, Richmond made a crazy comeback from the depths of hell to beat Towson in 3 overtimes, Duke got dropped by Penn in sudden death overtime, Cornell handled their face-off business in their win over Lehigh and much more. Week 3 College Lacrosse Previews, Syracuse & Virginia, Notre Dame & Georgetown, Duke & Penn, Denver & Jacksonville & More
We're going to start this episode talking about DII Mercyhurst vs Lemoyne, but after that will dive into Syracuse playing at Virginia which is going to be a huge game this weekend.  But then Notre Dame hosts Georgetown in a battle of two of the best teams in the country across the board both offensively, defensively and in cage. Maryland is taking on Princeton in a game many think is going to be close, but I personally don't.  Rutgers heading to Maryland to take on Loyola should also be a good one. Navy and High Point?  Sure.  In the end we're going to talk about close to 20 games in this episode and it runs for almost 50 minutes, so enjoy. Week 2 Recaps: Duke & Denver, Hopkins & Loyola, Georgetown & Penn & More (LaxFactor Podcast #190)
What a great Saturday of lacrosse we got to see. It started off for me watching Duke and Denver. What started out as a close game ended with Duke winning 19-10 and both Brennan O'Neill and Dyson Williams putting up 4 goals and 2 helpers. The return of the Ivies happened this weekend and the highlight of Saturday was Penn taking on Georgetown. Great game all the way through that saw the Hoyas get an early edge, and despite getting back to within a goal late, Penn was unable to knot things back up and Gtown wins it 10-8. Hopkins and Loyola played the game of the day. Loyola took a 10-8 lead prior to Hopkins stringing 3 unanswered 4th quarter goals together enroute to the one goal victory. Joey Epstein has continued to play well for Hopkins leading the Jays with 2 goals and 3 assists including the game-tying goal late in the 4th. The surprise of the day was North Carolina getting waxed by Ohio State by a score of 20-8. Ohio State was greatly helped by Justin Inacio dominating the face-off dot winning 18 of 26 of the draws he took and that provided OSU with the possessions needed to put UNC away over the course of the 3rd quarter. Chris Gray finished the game with 3 goals and 4 assists, but it wasn't nearly enough and he got no help. Also returning to action, Notre Dame beat up on Detroit Mercy, Cornell put it on Albany, Colgate won a close won over Air Force, Towson surprised early, but Virginia ended up pulling away for the route. We'll talk about all of these gams and many more, so be sure to watch the full show.
