SwiftSnippets - Logical Operators/Short-Circuit Evaluation
Journey Through the Code is now "SwiftSnippets."   SwiftSnippets is a short-form podcast about iOS development tips brought to you from my own hardships and programming experience. Swift Snippets is aimed at helping programmers become better through real-world trial and error. In this episode, I explain a recent lack of basic iOS knowledge I came across when learning Apple's SwiftUI framework. I give you a quick overview of Swift's Logical Operators and how they should be used.

Journey Through The Code - Specializing vs. Generalizing as a Programmer
In this episode, I share my thoughts on what my intuition is telling me about specializing vs. generalizing as a programmer. When first starting out, it may be very confusing as to whether or not you should learn a lot about a certain area of programming OR learn a general amount about a lot of areas of programming.  Since I am in the process of both becoming an iOS developer and starting an indie game studio, I have been living and breathing the Apple ecosystem for the past 12 months. During this time, I have been building an iOS game with SpriteKit and working on a pothole reporting app that uses Google Firebase.  Everyone's journey is different, and I am just here to share my process with you and hopefully help you out a bit along the way. Thank you for listening to my thoughts, I hope I can help you decide for yourself as to whether you want to generalize or specialize as a programmer.  ---  Also, I've recently launched a new blog - and you can start reading today by heading to journeythroughthecode.com. ALSO - you can listen to the Journey Through the Code show in audio format! Check it out wherever you listen to podcasts! Journey Through the Code - A Logically Positive Mindset
Having a positive mindset works just like a boolean! A boolean can either be true or false and usually starts out with a default value in a program. In the same way, a human mind can either be positive or negative and most people have a default mindset in which they operate.  In this episode, I explain some ways that I've learned to be consistently positive and how being positive today will create a positive future. Journey Through the Code - How to Learn
Learning is one of the most important things you can do as a programmer. There is a process that everyone goes through when learning how to code, and in this episode, I share with you the techniques that have helped me learn new programming concepts. Learning to code isn't easy, and you'll never know everything. This is why you MUST be a self-learner and continuously learn new things - the world moves too fast. Here are a few ways in which I consume content and retain the knowledge of what I'm trying to learn  - 1.) Watch tutorials of people programming. 2.) Use your basic knowledge to begin building something. 3.) Google, Google, Google 4.) Engage with the community 5.) Just keep coding. - Connect with me: Twitter: https://twitter.com/andrewlundy Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/andrewlundydev Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/andrewlundydev/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/andrewlundydev/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/andrewlundydev/ My Website: https://lundy.dev/ - The Journey Through the Code Podcast:  Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4H8Nun8Xh1KuyymN93TMwA iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/journey-through-the-code/id1466337193 Anchor: https://anchor.fm/journeythroughthecode Stitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/break-the-barrier/journey-through-the-code Sound Cloud: https://soundcloud.com/jttc

Journey Through the Code - Being Intentional as a Programmer
In this episode, I talk about why being intentional is important to life and you as a programmer.  In order to build something, you have to know what you're actually going to build and stick to the plan. Of course, things will change in software development and you may have to add or subtract from the original plan. But, by being intentional you will be able to withstand the winds when they come and stay on course in your programming journey.  - Watch the YouTube video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDPUE7AMScU&t=21s - Follow me online: Twitter: https://twitter.com/andrewlundy Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/andrewlundydev Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/andrewlundydev/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/andrewlundydev/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/andrewlundydev/ My Website: https://lundy.dev/ The Journey Through the Code Podcast:  Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4H8Nun8Xh1KuyymN93TMwA iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/journey-through-the-code/id1466337193 Anchor: https://anchor.fm/journeythroughthecode Stitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/break-the-barrier/journey-through-the-code Sound Cloud: https://soundcloud.com/jttc

Journey Through the Code - The Phases of Learning How to Code
In this episode, I share with you the 5 phases someone will go through when learning how to code. From my own experiences, we go through the different mental and emotional stages that happen when learning to program.  For starters, you begin to use your brain in a more logical way and you start to think in ways you wouldn't naturally do before learning to code. As your programming journey advances, you gain the mind of a programmer more and more and carry it in everyday life. Learning to code is hard and takes time, so if you feel like you just "aren't made for it" - please get that shit out of your head. Anybody can learn how to code; you just have to be persistent and have an end goal. Keep pushing. If you are learning how to code and have any questions about programming and tech - please send me an email at andrew@lundy.dev and I will be sure to reply directly as well as answer it in my next "Curious Coder" episode.  Music: BETTER by PlutoTracks https://soundcloud.com/plutotracks/better-hip-hop-beat-piano-and-guitar-instrumental-chill-ambient-relaxing-background-music Connect with me: Twitter: https://twitter.com/andrewlundy Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/andrewlundydev Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/andrewlundydev/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/andrewlundydev/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/andrewlundydev/ My Website: https://lundy.dev/ The Journey Through the Code Podcast:  Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4H8Nun8Xh1KuyymN93TMwA iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/journey-through-the-code/id1466337193 Anchor: https://anchor.fm/journeythroughthecode Stitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/break-the-barrier/journey-through-the-code Sound Cloud: https://soundcloud.com/jttc

Journey Through the Code - Tips for Client Work
In this episode, I give you some tips for working as a freelancer with clients. Not every project is the same, which means the client behind them is always different. When working as an independent contractor, you're working directly with an individual or company instead of for the actual company. Because of this, the rules change and I aim to help make that process a bit smoother.  If you haven't followed the journey on YouTube yet, you can by heading over to https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqpGxcaL_GXGN4pOABZTGfg and hitting that subscribe button! Journey Through the Code - WWDC 2019, My Thoughts on Monday
WWDC started today (June 3rd) and I leave my thoughts on what I thought were the coolest releases this far. 1.) Dark Mode. Of course, we finally get what we've all wanted. 2.) iPadOS. A somewhat more powerful iOS for iPad. The new home screen is cool and so is the ability to use it as a second monitor for your Mac. 3.) Reality Kit & Reality Composer. A new way to create AR components and integrate them into the real world.  4.) Sign in With Apple. A new, more secure way to sign into all of your connected apps. 5.) SwiftUI. My favorite release this far. A new, declarative framework for building User Interfaces with Swift. 6.) BONUS FEATURE. You'll have to listen to the entire show to hear this one!
