Self Sabotaging
Are you a Self Sabotager? Of course you are going to say “No, why the hell would I want to do something that makes my situation worse” Well you would be surprised how many people unintentionally or sometimes intentionally do things to do just that. Breaking something in such a way that there is no way back from it, in effect freeing themselves from the issue. Self-sabotage is the act of subconsciously or intentionally getting in your own way. It’s not just a bad habit. It’s not just laziness or procrastination. Being a self-sabotager is something much deeper, and it often stems from a lack of self-knowledge and awareness. Or most commonly its when you want to get away from a situation and are unable to articulate this feeling. As you will hear on the podcast I have done this myself to spectacular effect and looking back on it could see exactly why I did it even though i was powerless to stop.

Side Hustle
Introducing Josh Kemp Josh Kemp is our guest today joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots podcast. He  is a man who quite simply has powered his way through many obstacles that would stop most in their tracks. As he says "I love creating online courses that teach a specific side hustle and how to make money with it in the shortest amount of time possible! I am the author of No Degree, No Problem. Originally I was a Blacksmith / Farrier for 8 years but then had to switch careers after getting kicked by a horse. I self taught myself how to code and landed a Junior Software Development position 9 months later making $ 70K. I currently live in Raleigh, North Carolina with my wife, three kids, two goats and a gecko. Now most interestingly for a show called Join Up Dots, which follows loosely the words or the late Steve Jobs, our guest did a similar thing when it came to getting a college qualification.   How The Dots Joined Up For Josh He goes on to say "I remember when I was 16 my Mom had me take Business Law classes at the local community college. My Mom was big on making sure ALL her kids went to college and got a degree. After barely failing the first class, I decided college wasn't for me, it wasn't until I was 18 that I broke my parents’ hearts and told them I wouldn't be going to college. Over the years I have had to switch careers and have had over a dozen different side hustles in my life. My Mom no longer worries about me becoming destitute, l have used the power of side hustles all my life ( except for a 1 year period ) to provide better for myself and family, as well as learn more about what things are a good fit for me." So does he feel he is still working towards the big thing that will define his life, or is that not important anymore? And why do people struggle so much to make a living online, when all the clues are already there to follow the success of others? Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Josh Kemp   Show Highlights During the show we discussed such deep subjects with Josh Kemp such as: How culturally we have lost the ability to get down and dirty and work for a living, even if its an online venture. A dream life doesn't come easily. Josh shares why you should always go where the money is.  Look for who has it and then decide what you can do for them. Always look for the problem that can be solved for as many people as possible you can then scale scale scale. And lastly........... Josh tells us a great story of a snow blower, inspiration and hustle that almost ended his marriage but became amazing motivation.

Forget What Everyone Else Is Telling Us
Forget What Everyone Else Is Telling Us It's time to stop listening to advice. We've all heard it: "You should do this." Or, "You shouldn't do that." But what if we did the opposite? What if we stopped following other people's advice and instead made our own decisions about how to live our lives? When you think about it, the concept of listening to other people's advice is pretty weird. Why would anyone want to take advice from someone else? We all know what works for us and what doesn't, so why not just go with what works? The truth is, taking advice from others can be dangerous, because it robs us of our ability to make informed decisions. Instead of basing your decisions on what you think will work best for you, you're basing them on what someone else thinks will work best for them. Sure, they may have some good ideas—but they also might not. And even worse, they could be totally wrong! That's why it's important to take full ownership over your life and create the life YOU want instead of letting other people tell you how things should be done.

Allan Watts And The Backwards Law
Allan Watts And The Backwards Law The backwards Law is a very interesting concept brought to the world by the late philosopher Allan Watts. Now you may not have heard of the backwards law, but in its simplest form its a focus on what we haven't got in our lives which brings more of the same into our lives. You see we all have positions where we would like to move to something better and so focus in what we need to do to get that thing. You can call this goal setting, ambition, dream chasing.....whatever you wish to call it. Which is all totally acceptable as this is what humans do in life and should be encouraged by all means. However, when we carry a sense of unhappiness with ourselves whilst working towards the goal we get rooted to the spot and lose track of what we need to be doing. Allan Watts, the late modern philosopher described this feeling of staying where we are when he made his famous backwards law speech. Allan Watts The Backwards Law The modern philosopher Alan Watts referred to this as “the backwards law” which is “the idea that the more you pursue feeling better all the time, the less satisfied you become, as pursuing something only reinforces the fact that you lack it in the first place. As he says "The more you desperately want to be rich, the more poor and unworthy you feel, regardless of how much money you actually make. The more desperately you want to be sexy and desired, the uglier you come to see yourself, regardless of your actual physical appearance. The more you desperately want to be happy and loved, the lonelier and more afraid you become, regardless of those who surround you.”  Its a fine line to walk at the best of times. What he is saying is "be grateful for what you already have, but also feel free to want more" which of course goes against many of the rules set in todays self-development age. Be better, be slimmer, be more focused, be more, be more, be more. Im not personally sure that its a path that i can walk all the time, as the backwards law i'm sure will hold me back from my goals. Do You Feel You Are In A World Of Lacking? If you do feel that more often than not the world is dealing you a bad set of cards then perhaps a change of outlook is required. Perhaps you are operating 100% within the rules of the backwards law and focusing in on the wrong things. Its funny when you think that life is giving you everything you need but you are missing it as you are looking the wrong way. And the right way isnt where you think you should be looking at all. The right way is always within yourself and accepting the gifts that you already have in your life. Thats the backwards law for you in its backwards glory.....you already have what you need and truly require. So now its time to accept and build from that point.

Using Affirmations In Our Life
Using Affirmations In Our Life Have you ever thought about how many times a day you say something like "I'm so tired" or "I can't do this anymore"? If you're like us, it's probably a lot. But did you know that those kinds of thoughts can actually hold you back from reaching your full potential? That's because when we think negative things about ourselves, it creates a self-fulfilling prophecy. We tend to attract the same kind of situations into our lives and make it difficult for ourselves to improve in any way. Affirmations are a great way to build success in your life. According to Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich, "you must know what you want and have the burning desire to possess it." If you have the desire, but don't know what you want, then your affirmation will be vague, and therefore ineffective. The first step is identifying the goal. This is where affirmations come in. An affirmation is a statement that you repeat over and over again until it starts to become true for you. For example: "I am so grateful for my new job." Say this statement every day as soon as you wake up until it becomes true for you. You will see results quickly because there is power in repetition. When we repeat an idea over and over again, we start believing that idea is true, even if at first it wasn't true or it didn't feel true at all when we said it aloud for the first time! Affirmations can also help us focus on our goals by helping us visualize what we want rather than just thinking about them all day long without any direction or action taken towards achieving them."

We all have days when we feel like giving up. I have good news for you: You are not alone. In fact, there are many times in my life when I wanted to throw in the towel, but then something happened that made me realize that I could and should keep going. Sometimes, it’s just a small thing that makes you realize how much potential still exists within you. It might be reading an inspiring story from someone who, laid down, and then brushed themselves off and started taking more steps forward. So let’s start with telling you, that if you want the great life, the success, the infinity swimming pool then you have to push past the times when you are feeling like giving up, or you are just going to get what other people get. Motivation
Do You Know What Truly Motives You? Motivation is a huge part of life. It keeps us going, it pushes us to keep trying even when we feel like we can't go on anymore, and it's what makes us excited about things in the first place. Motivation is one of those things that can be found in so many different places and situations, but it's up to us choose how much motivation we want to take from each source. In fact, there are even apps designed to help people find motivation! If you're looking for some new ways to get motivated this month (or year), read on for some great ideas: Motivation is a skill You may have heard the term “motivation” thrown around quite a bit, but do you really know what it means? Motivation is a skill that can be developed and practiced. It's not an innate trait or something only some people have. It's easy to get discouraged and think that some people are just born more motivated than others, but in reality many of us simply need to work on our motivation skills. Motivation is something that you can learn like any other skill. Just like learning how to play guitar or speak Spanish fluently, practicing your motivation skills will improve them over time! Therefore, anyone with enough patience and determination can develop their own set of effective methods for achieving success in life.*

How To Be Positive Thinking
Introducing How To Be Positive Thinking We’ve all heard about positive thinking, and we always think of it as a great way to live. For most of us, it’s easier said than done. Why? Because when things are tough—when bills are due, you’re short on rent, or your relationship isn’t working—it can be difficult to keep up with the optimism. But I’m here to tell you that it is possible. Let me explain how I learned to be more positive in my life, even when things got hard. Your Not Alone Even Though You Think You Are One of the most important things to remember is that you are not alone. The world can sometimes seem like a cold and dark place, but there are people all around you who have gone through similar situations as you and have come out stronger on the other side. Just because your situation is different does not mean it’s worse or better than someone else’s. The best part about other people going through hard times is that they tend to be very helpful in finding solutions! Asking for support from friends and family can go a long way towards helping you deal with difficult situations in your life You Can't Control Everything Even If You Try It’s important to remember that you can’t control everything. You can’t control other people, the weather, your past, or the future. You also can’t control your emotions or your health and financial situation. In fact, there are only a few things that we can control in life: Our reactions to situations (i.e., being able to take things in stride) How we think about situations (i.e., having an optimistic mindset) The actions we take (i.e., doing something rather than nothing at all) Dont Be Scared Of What You Dont Know You can’t know everything. In fact, you don’t even know what you don’t know. And even if you did, it wouldn’t matter because your understanding of reality is just a construct of your brain—a fragile, limited thing that has been constructed by the same system that keeps trying to convince us we’re all doomed to die alone in this universe with no purpose or meaning. But don’t get me wrong: I’m not saying we shouldn’t try to be better at understanding ourselves and our world! It’s important to try new things and work toward self-improvement because it will help us feel confident when facing challenges and make us more likely to succeed at whatever goals we set for ourselves (even if those goals are just learning how not to be afraid).
