#99. Have You Checked The Floorboards Lately?
Floorboards are a funny thing. They are what supports you as you move around your home. They keep your furniture, appliances and everything else off the ground. In a car or truck, they keep you safe, warm, cool and add serious structure to the design. Whether it's the house on Elm street, a 98 Chevy pickup or a 10 year old Kenworth, The condition of the floorboard will tell you a lot about structural integrity. In the 7th and 8th chapter of Joshua we learn how easy it can be to hide something that isn't ours under the floor. In this case, it was buried in the ground, inside a tent. But even in the dirt that corrosive sin of one man corrupted the effort of an entire nation. We also learn the high cost of sin, and just what Jesus did for us on the cross. In Ephesians 3: 14-21 we read Paul's prayer for spiritual growth. Paul assures us that God's mighty power is working in us to "accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think." Our Pastor used this text for last week's sermon. It was a powerful sermon that left us full of thought, hope and conviction. He left us with a lot to think about. Pull up the floorboards. Be acutely aware that God gives us the power to give back to him what was never ours to take. Pray for that power. Reach for that power. I will end this with Philippians 3: 13-15. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.
