Mary Alice Volkert: Low/High Symptoms & A1C     In this episode, Maggie and Mary Alice discuss:  ·         How your stress hormones affect your body when your blood sugar is low.  ·         How people’s symptoms can be different for the same thing.  ·         How elevated blood sugar levels can affect you (as your blood gets more syrupy).  ·         What glycated hemoglobin is and how it negatively affects your body.      Podcast Nuggets- Small bits of insight, consume without calories:  ·         If you’re blood sugar levels are low, your brain doesn’t have the glucose available to put two thoughts together.  ·         The speed with which your blood sugar is moving can really cause symptoms to occur if they are unstable.  ·         It’s all about stability.  ·         An A1C of 7 is like having a blood sugar of 150.        "It’s up to the individual to try to achieve the steadiest blood sugars that they can with whatever means they can. Whether it’s just with diet and exercise or with your insulin, hopefully with a pump or something that will give you the steady state as much as possible." — Mary Alice Volkert     About Mary Alice: Mary Alice Volkert, MS,RDN,LD,CDE has been a Registered and Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist since 1978 and a Certified Diabetes Educator since 1986.
