EP. 165 Breaking the Ice Series Two Inspirational Independant Women Ice Anglers from Minnesota
Wrapping up the special Breaking the Ice Series with conversations with not one, but two amazing woman ice anglers...Jessi Havemeier and Katie Halverson. Both are active members of Women Anglers of Minnesota (WAM) and have a passion for passing their knowledge onto others.  In the words of Kristen Merwin, Former President of WAM:"Jessi is a single mom who is very unique. She is a strong independent woman who has a passion for fishing and classic trucks. Many times you will find posts on what she is working on her classic truck doing most of the work on her own! As an ice angler she is an independent angler who goes out on her own to find her own fish, drill her own holes and of course clean her catch! Katie is another amazing strong independent woman. She is a carpenter by day and independent ice angler on the weekends and evenings. She takes others under her wing and introduces them to the sport of ice fishing. I met Katie at a landing as she loaded her ice house into her truck, my husband offered to help and she said I got it! She also is a part of a water ski team and does all sorts of fancy tricks water skiing! These are two great role models of how women should be represented in the sport of ice fishing. They know how to do it all, all on their own and are very successful in doing so! You will love them!"Well, I did and I know you will too! EP. 157 The Qwest for Perfection
Terry Glover from Qwest Pontoons is back as my special guest on this week's episode of The Woman Angler & Adventurer Podcast! It was fun catching up and talking about 2020 and all the new things in store for 2021. I had the privilege of running a 2020 Qwest Splash Pad this year from Anderson Marine Family Boating Center in Old Hickory, TN. The tritoon was outfitted with a 200HP Yamaha VMAX SHO and my guests absolutely loved it!I picked out the regal red color because I wanted to turn heads out on the lake, and turn heads it did! Every time I had it docked over my the marina restaurant, just about everyone that walked by had to stop and talk about it. The red paired with the greystone furniture really popped! The layout of the Splash Pad model is so roomy and functional. We had some awesome "pontoon karaoke" outings onboard. I took some kids fishing and previous podcast guest Brittany Howard came out a couple times to chase some bass!Among the biggest hits were the innovation award-winning Lillipad Marine Revo Boarding Ladder and of course, the diving board! Despite all the craziness, we definitely had a lot of fun out on the water...Enjoy my conversation with Terry and be sure and check out Qwest Pontoons!Mentioned in this Episode: Qwest Pontoons Anderson Marine Family Boating Center Qwest Pontoons on Facebook Qwest Pontoons on Instagram Lillipad Diving Boards Additional Resources: The Woman Angler & Adventurer Facebook Page The Woman Angler & Adventurer Facebook Group The Woman Angler & Adventurer on Instagram The Woman Angler & Adventurer Podcast Website Listen on Waypoint Outdoors Listen on Apple Podcasts (subscribe and leave a review!) EP. 154 An Outdoor Adventurer from East Tennessee- Glenda Curving
I have to thank my brother-in-law Brent Scott for this episode. He introduced me to this week's guest, Glenda Curving. She was a joy to chat with and I hope to meet her out at Tellico sometime soon! This is what Brent wrote of Glenda:Four years ago I took my son to the Tellico River for the first time. We pulled up to a campsite and ask a nice lady if the spot next to her was open. That was one of the luckiest things that's happened to us. She said it was and helped us get set up. That lady was Glenda Curving.Over that weekend we became fast friends with Glenda and Gary. We ended up transferring our gear over to their campsite and staying with them. We've been up there since many times. We ALWAYS coordinate when Glenda and Gary can be there. We've come to know some of her family and they are just as sweet as she is.Glenda has become a grandmother like role model to my boys. She loves them like they are hers. She cooks for us and dotes over them the entire time we are up there.Glenda grew up in East Tennessee. She has always been a true outdoors person. She can hunt and fish as good as anyone I've known. She has taught my boys and me so much. We spent last weekend with them and had an amazing time. We saw bald eagles, a blue herring, lots of fish and countless bugs and critters. She kept the boys safe while I got to go up in the mountain on trail runs and mountain biking. Can't wait til the next time we can go. Thank you so much for everything Glenda Curving. See u soon!! EP. 153 Angelica Marciano from Wicked Tuna
Welcome to this week's special encore performance of The Woman Angler & Adventurer podcast featuring Angelica Marciano from Wicked Tuna! This episode just won an Excellence In Crafts Award from the Tennessee Outdoor Writers Association. It earned 2nd Place in the Broadcast Category! This is why I thought it would be fun to re-release it this week as a special encore episode. I checked in with Angelica and they just wrapped up filming for the new season, it's a ton of fun so be sure to be on the lookout for that! Here's the original show notes:Do you watch National Geographic's hit series Wicked Tuna? If you do, you've likely been "lured in" by the reality series that follows a group of Gloucester Massachusetts die-hard anglers going after the monstrous and elusive bluefin tuna. You find yourself sitting on the edge of your seat while the captains and their shipmates engage in epic battles trying to boat these beasts that bring large paydays which they need to keep their families afloat season after season. One of these shipmates is Angelica Marciano, daughter of Captain Dave Marciano of the F/V Hard Merchandise and now the F/V Falcon. Angelica joined her father and her brother Joe on Season 7 of Wicked Tuna. It's a family affair for the Marcianos, even mother Nancy gets in on the action from time-to-time.Tune in to this week's episode of The Woman Angler & Adventurer podcast to hear my chat with Gel as she gives us some insight on the new season and much more. Then tune in every Sunday on National Geographic to root for Angelica and the rest of her clan as they battle the North Atlantic waters chasing these majestic monstahs! Mentioned in this episode:  Wicked Tuna on National Geographic FV-Hard Merchandise Website Angelica Marciano's Facebook Page Angelia Marciano on Instagram Angelica Marciano on Twitter Additional Resources: The Woman Angler & Adventurer Facebook Page The Woman Angler & Adventurer Facebook Group The Woman Angler & Adventurer on Instagram The Woman Angler & Adventurer Podcast Website Listen on Waypoint Outdoors Listen on Apple Podcasts (subscribe and leave a review!) EP. 152 Epic Girl's Trip on Lake Erie
Welcome to this week's episode, all about the "Girls Trip" I went on with Jen Ripple from DUN Magazine and Outdoor Girl Cheryl Smith. It was a whirlwind of a trip, but so incredibly worth it!I drove two hours from Nashville up to Land Between the Lakes to meet up with Jen on an early Monday morning. We loaded up the truck and continued our trek north 8.5 hours to Port Clinton, OH. In retrospect, we wondered why we didn't just fly up, but I'm glad we didn't. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time!We arrived at Bay's Edge Resort around 5pm. The first stop was over at the Bait Shop to check in to our luxurious townhome accommodations. While we were there we met acclaimed walleye spinner blade maker Tommy Harris and our Charter Guide Captain Mark Cahlik. Tommy and Mark showed us the fish in the amazing pond right there at the resort. None of us have seen bluegill so big our lives! We went out for a great dinner at a local Mexican restaurant, and after visiting for a bit back at our beautiful townhome, we went to bed early. We had an exciting day of perch and smallmouth fishing ahead on Tuesday! You'll hear all about Day 2 in this episode. An amazing lady named Em fished with us and joined us for this episode. She has a long history in fishing. She used to fish the tournament scene as part of the Bassin' Gals trail. She was so much fun to get to know and fish with! When we got back in we did a little fishing in the pond, recorded this episode, and then went to dinner at a local winery. The food was SO GOOD!Soooo even though I mentioned it in the episode, you don't get to hear about Day 3 where we went trolling for walleye, just yet...BUT stay tuned for a video which will be coming out VERY soon. I'll post it in the episode notes for this show on The Woman Angler & Adventurer website as soon as it is ready! Trust me, it's worth the wait!!!ENJOY! Mentioned in This Episode: Bays Edge Resort Mark1 Sport Fishing Port Clinton, OH Follow Outdoor Girl Cheryl Smith on Instagram DUN Magazine (Jen Ripple)  Additional Resources: The Woman Angler & Adventurer Facebook Page The Woman Angler & Adventurer Facebook Group The Woman Angler & Adventurer on Instagram The Woman Angler & Adventurer Podcast Website Listen on Waypoint Outdoors Listen on Apple Podcasts (subscribe and leave a review!) EP. 150 Life of Adventure on the Road With Kayla Jocumsen
As promised on last week's episode, this week I'm sharing my conversation with Kayla Jocumsen. Kayla is originally from Idaho. Her cousin is four time Elite winner Brandon Palaniuk. She's married to the  first ever Australian angler to qualify for the Bassmaster Elite Series, Carl Jocumsen. Recently she and Carl made a home base in East Tennessee near Chattanooga to be centrally located, but as you'll hear by their upcoming travel schedule, they're not giving up life on the road any time soon. She's an Ambassador for Mustang Survival and according to their website, Kayla had visited 47 states by age 26 and had fished in over 100 different lakes. To say fishing and adventure are a lifestyle for this young woman would be pretty darn accurate, so I'm excited to introduce you to Kayla Jocumsen on this week's episode! Mentioned in This Episode: Connect with Kayla Jocumsen on Facebook Follow Kayla Jocumsen on Instagram Fear My Heart Apparel  Mustang Survival Carl Jocumsen on Bassmaster.com Additional Resources: The Woman Angler & Adventurer Facebook Page The Woman Angler & Adventurer Facebook Group The Woman Angler & Adventurer on Instagram The Woman Angler & Adventurer Podcast Website Listen on Waypoint Outdoors Listen on Apple Podcasts (subscribe and leave a review!) EP. 148 Lexi Beyond Limits: Fly Fishing & Expanding Your Awareness
This week we're going to get pretty deep. I've personally been on a spiritual awaking journey recently. I think the pandemic and all the other things going on in the world right now have caused a lot of us to look for answers. I've been going down this path for about a year and recent events have helped to escalate my search for truth which has led to an expansion of awareness. Out of the blue, Captain Debbie Hanson who was featured on Episode 140 of the show reached out to me and recommended I connect with a woman by the name of Lexi Quinn who is a fly angler, hunter, and life coach. Debbie had fished with her recently and said "she's the real deal." Well, say no more. Debbie connected us and come to find out we are on very similar spiritual awakening paths. The universe knows what it is doing, to say the least. Lexi is a bit further along than myself, however, our conversation is something that I think could help enlighten a lot of listeners including YOU! If you find any value in this week's episode, please let us know by either leaving a review on your preferred platform or by sending an email to myself at angie@thewomanangler.com.Thanks for listening and ENJOY! Mentioned in This Episode: Follow Lexi Quinn on Instagram Fishing for Happiness Follow Captain Debbie Hanson (SheFishes2) on Instagram Aaron Doughty Expand Your Awareness on YouTube Additional Resources: The Woman Angler & Adventurer Facebook Page The Woman Angler & Adventurer Facebook Group The Woman Angler & Adventurer on Instagram The Woman Angler & Adventurer Podcast Website Listen on Waypoint Outdoors Listen on Apple Podcasts (subscribe and leave a review!)
