#Ep. 17: The answer lies between boxes and a chain link fence
Head over to this link and you can support us with $1 a month: https://bit.ly/3bcpBzg  The last few episodes have found us learning a lot about our own place in the world and the justices and injustices therein. We're slowly piecing together ways to communicate, and educate ourselves and the people around us about the things that matter. Why do businesses that hold our data have a responsibility to be transparent about what they do with it? Why is it important that statues are/are not taken down? What's the practical difference between equality, equity, and justice? These are some of life's biggest questions, and we want to know what you're all thinking, so drop us a comment, DM or even give us a call and we'd love to get the conversation under way. About Is This Thing On Podcast: Is This Thing On Podcast is an audio and video series created by Michael Jansen and Alysia Knowles to talk about all things Culture, Business, News, and Lifestyle. As professional Content Creators and good friends, we've been having entertaining conversations for the longest time, and really wanted to be able to share them with you. If not for the purpose of offering our perspective and spin on things, then at the very least to entertain you. About Alysia Knowles: Alysia is a full time content producer working with influencers in the Middle East and Europe. She loves being behind the camera as much as she enjoys being in front of it. Spoken Word poetry is where she finds catharsis, performing on various stages, sharing the more intimate details of her life. If she isn't on stage you will find her chatting away at whatever social event is being hosted from music to comedy. She is a patron of the arts in its purest form. About Michael Jansen: Michael is a professional content creator for business to business brands. From everything to hosting client podcasts to developing their strategies he’s often found behind a laptop creating something cool. Born in South Africa and raised while travelling all over the Middle East, and North and East Africa - he’s an international kid with big ideas for the world, but he doesn’t take it all too seriously. If there’s food, jokes, music, football (soccer), or travel involved; he’s there. So subscribe, leave us your comments, thumbs ups, and ultimately enjoy! #Ep. 15: Is the news dying?!
The way that we consume our news has really changed in the last couple of decades, and the situation has become dire for old school journalism! #Ep 14: Anarchy, right?!
What happens when identity politics, questionable business practices, and corrupt authority figures collide? Well, take a look around you. This is what happens. In this episode, we discussed the Capital Hill Autonomous Zone in Seattle, why Russell Brand might actually be right about what's going on there, and why Jeff Bezos has to testify in front of congress! There's a lot to unpack, and we're well aware that the world is still in chaos, which is precisely why we're bring you a different perspective that might offer either a bit of education or entertainment. We want to know what you're all thinking about the madness of every day life so drop us a comment, DM or even give us a call and we'd love to get the conversation under way. #Ep. 13 - What side of history are you on?
So, this is a difficult time in the world, and we want to offer our perspectives on some the most difficult topics we're faced with, because racial injustice is not just a topic to discuss. It's the daily experience for Black people around the world, and has been for centuries. We want to offer our support in whatever way we can - and that's by creating something, and speaking the truth that we have to offer. This episode revolves specifically around what our role as white people is in progressing this movement forward and ensuring we do not end up here again. This is all about trying to be and do better. To be the change, and make the steps, however uncomfortable. This is not a "Black Problem". It is our problem. All of us have had a hand in creating, and/or benefiting from the system, either consciously or unconsciously... The time has come to acknowledge our place, and act accordingly. It's time to stand on the right side of history. All the resources we've mentioned in the episode, and support that can be given, can be found on the link below: http://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co

#Ep 12: We're bad at receiving feedback and you are too
So we've taken a break for the last couple of weeks to think, strategise, rest and recover. We're getting back into our production and release schedule, and to kick us off we're bringing you episode 12. We spoke about some of the news in media, podcasts, Tik Tok (of course, which is our favourite app) and why it's so bloody difficult for us to receive feedback. It's not that we don't understand the value of constructive criticism, we just have egos. And we kind of struggle to deal with that, because we're human, and we just want compliments! #Ep 11: There's an 86% chance you take your talent for granted
[DISCLAIMER] That title is a completely made up statistic. But you believed it, because you probably do it too, and you know it! We've definitely done it in the past, and it's something we're always working on. It's good to take a step back and be self-aware enough to say "Yes, I am good at this." We covered why Kim Kardashian is making face masks, why professional athletes restarting training may not be a good idea, and why Generation Z is going to have a REALLY tough time post-coronavirus. We got especially deep when it comes to our own journeys of self-awareness and talent; even sharing some things we've never spoken about before. Ultimately it comes down to being brave enough to take ownership of your abilities - regardless of how you want to use them. If you're reading this leave us a comment or send us a DM and let us know if it's something you've ever struggled with and what you do about it. #Ep 10: We made it to 10 Episodes - so what now?
In a world where business leaders are giving their perspectives on what a post-coronavirus world will look like, we decided the world needed our opinions and perspectives as well! In Episode 10 we broke down our reactions to an Instagram post from Bloomberg featuring the likes of legendary investor Ray Dalio; Quibi CEO Meg Whitman, Former Chief of the European Central Bank; and we gave them our advice on how to approach things once life goes back to "normal". We also got realistic about our journey of the last 10 episodes and where we want to go from here, the highs, the lows, and the absolute randomness that shows up in between. RedBull, anyone? #Ep 9: It's time to declutter...
If you're like us - you've got loads of videos, pictures, documents, and random little files on your devices; be it phone, laptop, tablets etc. Getting rid of all of the unnecessary stuff is so satisfying. The digital spring clean is such a cathartic process. In a deeper sense, we also need to take stock of the mental clutter that comes along with our very intense day-to-day lives; whether that requires using Alysia's Bullet Journal style or my calendar-management that ensures you have the time to rest. In this episode we also talked about how coronavirus is taking shape, and how governments and businesses are reacting and trying to keep everything moving without riots or a second wave of the pandemic! Also - if you're reading this... Send us your thoughts on mental decluttering. Do you do it? How do you do it? We would love to hear from you! #Ep 8: WHY IS IT SO HARD TO SAY NO?!
As creators, as family members, as employees/employers, and even just as human beings there are plenty of difficult things we have to do as adults. Learning how to say 'No' is one of those difficult things; and for both Alysia and I, it's something we're still learning to do. With the help of books, a bit of can('t)-do attitude, and knowing what you really want out of life it gets a bit easier. We tried to break down the thinking and the feelings involved when trying to say no to something that you may not have the time, energy, or willingness for. In Episode 9 we also spoke about why Adele broke the internet on her birthday, and the fact that coronavirus travel restrictions are making my life SUPREMELY DIFFICULT - despite being safe and healthy. #Ep 7: Can you love Star Wars and not like Sci-Fi?
Imagine someone walking up to you dressed like a wizard, they've got the pointy hat, a wand, and everything... Then telling you they don't like films about Magic or Fantasy. It doesn't work! I tried to explain this to Alysia in Ep 7 but she wasn't having it and we agreed to disagree. So, instead, we ended up discussing the supply demand dynamics of content creation. What happens when you slowly decrease the supply to up the perceived value among your followers. Can it be done? Should it be done? And are there creators that are already successfully pulling it off. We also shared some pretty wholesome news about a Tokyo aquarium, and a US CEO with a heart of gold, to break the monotony of CNN's regular coronavirus updates. #Ep 6: Is there a cure for procrastinators?
So, despite our crippling penchant for procrastination - we went deep on just what might be causing this disorder with the help of a TED Talk about procrastinators, and the legendary Seth Godin's 'Just Ship It' approach. We also talked about terrible clickbait journalism, misleading the public, and why I get so upset with headline reading! (Even though we do it in every episode) Inside the mind of a master procrastinator | Tim Urban https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arj7oStGLkU Why Most Fail To Ship (Get It Out) - Seth Godin - Marketing Wisdom https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncTjyfPaznY  About Is This Thing On Podcast: Is This Thing On Podcast is an audio and video series created by Michael Jansen and Alysia Knowles to talk about all things Content, Culture, Business and Lifestyle. As professional Content Creators and good friends, we've been having entertaining conversations for the longest time, and really wanted to be able to share them with you. #Ep 5.5: What the hell is Personal Growth?
So we finally made it... We've been trying for nearly three episodes to get to the point where we talk about personal growth. Now, granted, it's a big topic and there's plenty to unpack - but I can safely say we did our best. We got down to the good, the bad, the ugly, and how we're handling our own journeys to personal growth. There's no right or wrong in this one but there's plenty to think about and we would love to get YOUR thoughts on it. It's something that's difficult for all of us so whether you've figured out how not to procrastinate all the time, or just how to be a bit kinder to yourself and the people around you then let us know in the comments below - we could definitely use your help. If you've got any recommendations or ideas for what kind of content you'd like us to create or things you'd like to hear us discuss, then please feel free to get in touch via podcast.itto@gmail.com  I hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did making it! Much love, Michael

#Ep 5.1: What do Van Gogh, Harvard, and the Founder of YouTube have in common?
This episode took a slightly different turn - and we're glad it did. We're pretty sick and tired of always bringing you the coronavirus news of the day so we decided to mix it up a bit with news on a Van Gogh painting, the first ever video on YouTube and a free Harvard Degree! And of course, because all we do is talk - we managed to not arrive at the ultimate point of the episode which is Personal Growth so stay tuned for a Personal Growth special coming soon! If you've got any recommendations or ideas for what kind of content you'd like us to create or things you'd like to hear us discuss, then please feel free to get in touch via podcast.itto@gmail.com  I hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did making it! #Ep 4: Quarantine Diaries3 - Nerdy and Proud
Have you ever been called a nerd or a geek? Can life go back to normal after coronavirus? What happens when oil prices go below zero? Are podcasts the best form of content of all time? So many important questions! We answered them all. We got into exactly what it means to be a nerd in this day and age, as well as oil prices being in the negative (yes, that is a thing) and some pieces of content that we're really enjoying from music to other podcast episodes from some dope creators. #Ep 3: Quarantine Diaries2 - Life So Far
In Episode 3 of the podcast, we started getting into our stride using the format that we'll continue to bring you over the next couple of weeks. We spoke about something that's impacted both of us quite a lot recently which is the impact coronavirus has had on the events industry, and how we feel that's going to impact everyone from business owners to artists and creatives. You'll also hear us discussing some of our favourite new albums as well as our favourite thing about TikTok! If you've got any recommendations or ideas for what kind of content you'd like us to create or things you'd like to hear us discuss, then please feel free to get in touch via podcast.itto@gmail.com  I hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did making it! #Ep 2: Quarantine Diaries1 - Welcome home
As we reveal more of the context behind what we're doing with this podcast, Alysia and I spoke about why we're doing the podcast this way (via Zoom), and what the current circumstances mean for how we're going to approach everything moving forward. Quarantine has been an interesting experience so far, that offers up its own unique challenges and perhaps opportunities. We discussed what some of those might be and what we're doing about it. I really hope you enjoy this episode, and of course if you've got any comments, thoughts, or ideas for what you'd like to see in future episodes then please do send them through to podcast.itto@gmail.com. Enjoy the episode! Much love, Michael
