What Drives You: Some Lessons From Tolkien
Today’s episode is the third in the True Self Series. The series is about building a heart-centered business – one that feels true to you. In this episode, we explore how the head, heart and body serve different purposes. We look at why you need all three and how the head and body can lead you astray. When you raise the head (or body) above the heart you take away what it means to be human. The heart is the part of you that recognizes truth and beauty. It’s also the seat of the True Self. If you want to build a business that feels true to you then you want to let your heart guide you. What you’ll learn on today’s episode:The problem with asking “what do you want?” The differences between the head, heart and body and why you need all three. How the false self can manipulate the head and the body. What we can learn from Lord Of The Rings about certain character traits. True Self Versus False Self
Today’s episode is the second in the True Self Series. The series is about building a heart-centered business – one that feels true to you. There’s a well-known story called The Tale Of The Two Wolves Inside You. It goes like this: One evening, an elderly Cherokee brave told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. “My dear one, the battle between two ‘wolves’ is inside us all. One is evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego. The other is good. It is: joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.” The grandson thought about it for a moment and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?” The old Cherokee replied, “The one you feed.” In this episode, I explore the difference between the true and false self. Recognizing this difference allows you to choose which wolf you want to feed. Do you want to create a business from joy and peace or from envy and ego? What you’ll learn on today’s episode:Why making business decisions from your ego creates shame and dissatisfaction. The differences between the false self and true self. How the true self will help you find more joy and peace in your business. The Problem With Today’s Success Culture
Today’s episode is the first in a series that I’m calling the True Self Series. If you prefer to hide from the world, it may be because you don’t resonate with today’s ‘success culture’. Perhaps you find it too loud. Or aggressive. Or it makes you uncomfortable, but you’re not sure why. The demands and noise of the outside world can be overwhelming. We are told that we should want more… do more… be more. Yet deep down what we long for is peace, calm, and truth. If this resonates then I invite you to turn inward and embrace what feels true to you. In the True Self Series, I will be showing you how to let go of what you ‘should’ do and instead build a business that feels true to you. On this first episode in the series, I discuss what I mean by today’s ‘success culture’ and why it can lead to a constant striving and sense of failure. What you’ll learn on today’s episode:What I mean by today’s ‘success culture’ and why it influences all of us. The tension between what you ‘should’ do and what your heart wants. Why money goals and money awards are not necessarily a good thing. How to escape the treadmill and find more peace in your business. Simple Selling - Part II
This week’s episode is a follow up to the previous episode on ‘simple selling’. I dive into some of my own challenges and explain how I am using simple selling to course correct. As a reminder, simple selling is inspiring people to take a specific action and doing it in a way that aligns with your values. You know you’ve nailed this concept when it feels good and natural. When I recorded the previous episode, I was in the middle of a launch for my group program. And as I created the podcast, I realized that I was not taking my own advice! My launches did not feel ‘good and natural’ – I felt out of alignment. Listen in to learn how I explored what was ‘off’ in my launches and the changes I decided to make to my group program. What you’ll learn on today’s episode:How I realized I was not practicing ‘Simple Selling’ in my launches Why it’s easy to ignore your inner wisdom and get distracted by outside voices Some changes I’m making in my business to get back in alignment Why self-improvement and constant striving do not always serve you How to manage the inner struggle and stay consistent with your values Featured on this episode:https://www.sallyannmiller.com/simple-selling/ (Episode 16: Simple Selling) Doors to Business Growth Lab are open (and staying open)! Have you ever felt an urge to change your business niche? Do you find yourself constantly researching different ideas? Or daydreaming about how much better it would be if you switched to something else? These are all signs of niche indecision. And it’s extremely common. However, switching niches is rarely the answer. When is it a good time to switch niche? And if you don’t change, what should you do instead? In this episode I show you what’s behind niche indecision and provide a simple framework to help you make the best decision for you and your business. 5 Success Principles For Introverted Entrepreneurs
After years of struggling in business, I realized something profound. My problems weren’t because I was doing something wrong. The problem was that I had been buying into the prevailing mindset around how to build an online business. Here are some things you may have been told about how to grow your business:Sell, sell, sell Go to live events Network all the time Always be "on" and telling people about your business Be everywhere Be on social media Build complex funnels, do webinars, run paid ads The truth is you don't need to do any of these things if you don't want to. And if you're an introvert like me, most of this will leave you feeling exhausted. Here's what I found DOES work:Slow down and be kind to yourself Be yourself in your business Do what feels natural, not what feels forced Talk to your people, the people who "get" you Give yourself the luxury of space & time to create a business that feels right for you I call these the five success principles for introverted entrepreneurs. Listen to this week’s episode and learn how you can apply these principles and thrive in your business. What you’ll learn on today’s episode:Why you need to stop doing “all the things” in your business... especially if you’re an introvert. What science tells us about introverts and dopamine. Your Business, Your Rules
Thriving in business means not just building any business but creating one you love. This means you need to be intentional about how you build your business, right from the start. In this episode, I share an exercise to help you design your perfect business… whatever that looks like for you. I want to free you from all the things you think you should do. So that you can start doing whatever it is you want to do. The exercise I share on this episode is called “Your Business, Your Rules”. To be clear, these aren’t rules to restrict you – quite the opposite. These are rules to remind you of the things you’re not prepared to do or give up just to make money. For example, one of my rules is that I have fun in my business. Another is that I don’t work after my children come home from school. What “rules” do you want in your business? Remember, you’re not building a business purely for profit. You’re designing a life that inspires and excites you. Listen in to find out how. What you’ll learn on today’s episode:Why focusing on the bottom line holds you back in business. How following your passion helps you thrive (and actually make more money). Five question to help you design the perfect business for you. How to let go of what you think you “should” do so that you’re free to do what you want to. How To Break Free Of Perfectionism
In her best-selling book, The Gifts Of Imperfection, Brene Brown said this: “Perfectionism is a self-destructive and addictive belief system that fuels this primary thought: If I look perfect and do everything perfectly, I can avoid or minimize the painful feelings of blame, judgement, and shame.” In other words, perfectionism is an attempt to protect yourself from experiencing negative feelings like shame. The problem is, it’s a strategy that doesn’t work. In fact, perfectionism leads to more of the very thing you’re trying to avoid. In this episode, I show you how perfectionism sets you up for failure and creates more shame. Then, I share four steps to break free of perfectionism. Following these steps takes bravery. You need to risk judgement… and shame. Yet the rewards are worth it. At the end of the episode, I read a poem that concludes like this: The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing is nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, But he cannot learn, feel, change, grow or live. Chained by his servitude he is a slave who has forfeited all freedom. Only a person who risks is free. What you’ll learn on today’s episode:Common signs of perfectionism and how to have compassion for yourself. Three reasons why perfectionism keeps you trapped and prevents business growth. Four steps to break out of perfectionism and end the shame-cycle. Transform Stress With The CALM Method - Part 2
This is the second part of a two-part series on the CALM Method. This is a tool you can use to transform negative emotions and thrive in your business. When growing a business, most people focus on external results. How many followers do you have? How much money are you making? And so on. This is understandable. We live in a culture of wanting more. More money, more recognition, more possessions, etc. But this keeps us stuck on a treadmill. Because “more” is never enough. Think about what happens when you achieve a goal. You probably experience a brief high. Which is then replaced by the desire to achieve an even bigger goal. So, how do you escape the treadmill? The answer is to change the energy you’re acting from. You want to switch from a negative action energy to a positive action energy. Focus on how you’re acting in your business and not on the end result. In this episode, I teach the second two steps in the four-step CALM Method so that you can harness the power of positive action energy and start creating the results you want in your business. What you’ll learn on today’s episode:Why you need the first two steps of CALM before getting coached. Five questions to help you learn from your feelings: What does the feeling want to tell you? Why are you feeling this way? What thought is behind this feeling? What is this thought or feeling protecting you from? What is the worst thing that could happen here? What is the best thing that could happen here? How to operate from a different action energy so that you can create the results you want in your business. Grow Your Business By Publishing A Book
On this week’s podcast I answer a question I get asked all the time – how to publish a book to grow your business. Self-publishing is how I’ve built my business and audience. It’s an awesome way to attract a following, especially if you’re an introvert who loves the written word. With Amazon – and other book sellers – you can publish a title and immediately appear prominently in their store. In a crowded online world, Amazon offers a unique opportunity to be discovered and establish yourself as an authority in your field. Yet discoverability isn’t the only reason to publish. The number one reason I love self-publishing is because people who read your book are highly qualified leads. By the time a reader lands on your website, they’ve already invested time and money getting to know you. They have decided that they resonate with your message and want to know more. What you’ll learn on today’s episode:Why publishing a book is one of the best ways to grow your audience as an introvert. How much I’ve made in book royalties to date. How I leverage Amazon to grow my audience with 5-10 high quality leads every day. What to consider when deciding whether to traditionally publish or self-publish. The Visibility Challenge: Retrain Your Brain
Most people think the reason they are struggling in business is because they don’t know the “how”. They want someone to give them the exact strategy or blueprint for success. However, the real reason entrepreneurs struggle is because they are living on autopilot. Their subconscious thoughts and feelings are driving their actions and results. This is normal. Marketing your business is a potential “threat” to your brain. Especially to us introverts. And when your brain feels threatened it triggers an automatic response to return you to safety. The problem is that as long as you are living on autopilot, you keep recreating the same results. Your subconscious programming is literally stopping you from growing… in your business and in your life. This is why I created the Visibility Challenge. It kicks off on Monday, March 21st 2022. Though you can start the challenge any time. You can also do the challenge whenever you’re struggling in business. It’s guaranteed to kickstart your results. The Visibility Challenge is simple - all you need to do is make 100 invitations. An invitation is any piece of content that is both helpful and shared publicly. So really, all I'm asking you to do is help people 100 times. By doing the challenge, you will: Find your voice and refine your message. Train your brain that it’s “safe” to be seen and take up space in the world. Create a volume of helpful content for your audience. Learn how to talk about what you do so people can't wait to work with you. Have renewed enthusiasm for your business… because challenges are fun! After 100 invitations you WILL make money. So, what do you think? Are you in? What you’ll learn on today’s episode:11 signs you’re operating from subconscious programming The three tools to retrain your brain to feel safe in your business Why doing The Visibility Challenge will transform your results The Visibility Challenge “Rules”: Make 100 invitations over any time period Record (and reward) your action using the Challenge Log Analyze and improve after every 5 invitations using curiosity Challenge ends when you have made 100 invitations Featured on this episode:Download the Visibility Challenge Toolkit https://www.sallyannmiller.com/wp-content/uploads/Visibility-Challenge-Toolkit.pdf (HERE) Episode 5: https://www.sallyannmiller.com/imposter-syndrome-how-to-stop-feeling-like-an-imposter/ (Imposter Syndrome: How To Stop Feeling Like An Imposter) Episode 3: https://www.sallyannmiller.com/overcome-sales-anxiety-and-test-your-idea/ (Overcome Sales Anxiety And Test Your Idea) Do The Visibility Challenge with me inside Business Growth Lab. https://www.sallyannmiller.com/thelab (Learn more here).

What To Do When Nobody Is Buying
You’re doing all the things. Showing up and telling people about your business. But nobody is interested. What do you do? First, don’t panic! Nothing has gone wrong. Growing your business is an iterative process. You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. Everything you do in your business is an experiment. And with each experiment you’re collecting data. The data means nothing about you and your idea. It’s just information. You’re already succeeding because you’re in the game. You’re running experiments, taking action, and figuring out what works. When you don’t get the results you expected, you take a step back and analyze. What did you do? What worked? What can you do differently next time? Then, you go back and test again. Keep iterating and improving. And do it with curiosity and love. If you do this, you will keep moving closer towards a thriving business. What you’ll learn on today’s episode:How to be a scientist in your business and take control of your results 6 specific actions you can take when nobody is buying Why sometimes the only thing you need to do is keep showing up When to offer your product or service for free Featured on this episode:Interested in working with me inside Business Growth Lab? https://www.sallyannmiller.com/thelab (Learn more here).
