Hidden Women In History: Don't Forget These Women.
It’s May, which means it’s Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Or APPI month, however you want to call it. But it’s a month to celebrate all Asians, honor Asian excellence, and remember the Asian diaspora. This is not limited to just Asian or East Asian Americans. We really struggled to capture the emotions we have around the events of the past few months specifically and the hidden women we wanted to feature. We want to feature these 6 women below because they were hidden in society; they were going about their lives, each with their dreams, families, friends, struggles, and more. Yet upon their death, they were made hyper visible.  And now, they are made invisible again. We don’t want them to be invisible. They are, and were each one of us. We could have been them.  Please remember each of their names and the legacy they have left behind. Daoyou Feng, Hyun Jung Grant (Kim), Sun Cha Kim, Soon Chung Park, Xiaojie Tan, Young Ae Yue More information on our website.  Chloe Zhao: Best Director Academy Award and Youn Yuh-jung: Best Supporting Actress Don’t forget these women. Introspectives Media Club E4: April 2021
Adrienne, Claire, Enja, Hazel, Natalie, Sabrina, and Sehrish talk about Snowpiercer (the series), I May Destroy You and Black Earth Rising. Questions discussed: 1. Are there any previous conceptions/perspectives you had that you feel were changed after watching these shows? 2. How diverse were the representations of people of color? Do you feel that the media perpetuated any harmful stereotypes? 3. These shows were quite heavy and covered some bleak subject material. Do you think that these depictions were too heavy, or was it warranted given the subjects being discussed? What are the advantages or disadvantages of shows that are more depressing or violent?
