Favorite Things We Watched in 2020 with Ashley Killips
INDIEfinitive is a our ride along look at how we make films and the things we're watching along the way.   This is the last episode of 2020. So we decided to jump on the bandwagon of discussing a year-end "Best Of" list. But we wanted to do it in our own way - partly because there's just too much out there for us to have watched it all and claim to know what's best. So, Ashley Killips joins to discuss our favorite shows and movies we watched in 2020. This doesn't necessarily mean released  in 2020, but rather when we watched them for the first time. So since 2020 was the first year I saw the Chris Pratt/Jennifer Lawrence led "Passengers," it would technically be eligible for my list (spoiler: it didn't make it). Then we run through a few quick hit categories like our favorite acting performance, favorite new star, and more. As always, remember this is INDIEfinitive - we're not claiming this is the end-all be-all list, these are just our favorites at the time we recorded.   Thanks for listening, stay safe and healthy out there and hope you enjoy the INDIEfinitive list of our favorite things we watched in 2020.SHOW NOTES:  INDIEfinitive now on YouTube “DEBT” (starring Ashley Killips) is now available via Vimeo OnDemand, as well as DebtTheMovie.com and Amazon  Ashley Killips on Instagram and Twitter Dave Fairman on Instagram and Twitter

Nancy Oeswein
INDIEfinitive is a ride-along look at how we make films and the people we meet along the way. In this episode, Ashley Killips and I interview producer and screenwriter Nancy Oeswein. As we discuss, that description is probably insufficient - you could add makeup artist, wardrobe designer, location manager, production designer, casting director - the list goes on. Simply put, she wears a lot of hats. If you follow the Michigan indie film scene you may have heard Nancy's name attached to one of the many projects she's been involved with over the last several years. That includes the nine (!) feature films she's collaborated on with Harley Wallen (two of which she wrote), in addition to multiple short films and music videos.  Her most recent project, which she wrote and produced, is titled a "A Bennett Song Holiday." This film was a sequel to the successful Michigan indie film "Bennett's Song" and was released last month on vod.  She shared a lot of great perspective on producing and what it means to get stuff made in the indie film space. Thanks for listening, stay healthy out there and hope you enjoy our chat with Nancy Oeswein.SHOW NOTES: A Bennett Song HolidayBennett's SongMoving PartsAbstruseAgramon's GateNancy Oeswein on Facebook and Instagram --INDIEfinitive now on YouTube “DEBT” (starring Ashley Killips) is now available via Vimeo OnDemand, as well as DebtTheMovie.com and Amazon  Ashley Killips on Instagram and Twitter Dave Fairman on Instagram and Twitter

Production Update! Talking Kill Will with Ashley Killips
INDIEfinitive is a ride-along look at how we make films and what we're thinking about along the way.   In this episode, Ashley Killips and I give an update about what we've been working on over the last several months. We discuss a couple projects that stalled out due to Covid, how we adjusted, and the new short film on which we recently completed production, Kill Will. Thanks for listening, stay safe and healthy out there and hope you enjoy this production update episode!  SHOW NOTES:  INDIEfinitive now on YouTube “DEBT” (starring Ashley Killips) is now available via Vimeo OnDemand, as well as DebtTheMovie.com and Amazon  Ashley Killips on Instagram and Twitter Dave Fairman on Instagram and Twitter

Favorite Scary Movies with Ashley Killips
Happy Halloween! It's good to be back. We had a bit of a break during August and September while working on a new film project. We've got an episode coming soon that'll go into more detail on that entire process. But for now, given it's the spooky season, we decided to talk scary movies instead!  Ashley Killips joins me to discuss our five favorite scary films. I am admittedly not a connoisseur when it comes to this type of movie, so please feel free to send me snarky messages about how limited my list is. BUT, there are a few that really mean a lot to me, and those are the ones I cover. As you'll hear, this topic is much more in Ashley's wheelhouse.  As always, remember this is INDIEfinitive - we're not claiming this is the end-all be-all list, these are just our favorite at the time we recorded.   Thanks for listening, stay safe and healthy out there and hope you enjoy the INDIEfinitive list of our favorite scary movies.SHOW NOTES:  INDIEfinitive now on YouTube “DEBT” (starring Ashley Killips) is now available via Vimeo OnDemand, as well as DebtTheMovie.com and Amazon  Ashley Killips on Instagram and Twitter Dave Fairman on Instagram and Twitter

Favorite Movie Quotes with Ashley Killips
INDIEfinitive is a look at how we make films and what we're thinking about along the way.   When first starting this podcast, the idea was to document the process of making films. And then... well then coronavirus happened and making stuff really took a back seat. We've got some new projects coming and hope to be able to talk about the steps soon. But in the meantime, since the focus the last few months has really been on writing, Ashley Killips is back and we're going to focus on some components of writing - great movie quotes that we really love.   Of the topics we've done, or even discussed, this one may have the most potential to be flawed because there are so many great options out there. But we're tackling it nonetheless.  As always, remember this is INDIEfinitive - we're not claiming this is the end-all be-all list, these are just our favorite at the time we recorded.   Thanks for listening, stay safe and healthy out there and hope you enjoy the INDIEfinitive list of our favorite movie quotes.SHOW NOTES:  INDIEfinitive now on YouTube “DEBT” (starring Ashley Killips) is now available via Vimeo OnDemand, as well as DebtTheMovie.com and Amazon  Ashley Killips on Instagram and Twitter Dave Fairman on Instagram and Twitter

Justin Mane
INDIEfinitive is a look at how we make films and the people we're lucky enough to meet and work with along the wayIn this episode, I talk with Justin Mane. Justin is an actor, wrestler, stuntman and now producer based primarily out of metro Detroit. As we discuss, in 2014 he had the opportunity to be an extra on Jurassic World. And choosing to jump at that chance was the moment that really kicked his pursuit of acting and filmmaking into motion. He's worked on several other features including 2017's Detroit and 2019's Eternal Code. He's also done a ton of short films and commercial work. This year he produced and acted in a Crow short fan film, and we'll talk all about the process making that come to life. And if that wasn't enough, we get to talk wrestling too. So thanks for listening, stay healthy out there and hope you enjoy my chat with Justin ManeSHOW NOTES:  INDIEfinitive now on YouTube Justin Mane’s Website Justin Mane vs Ryback WWE MatchJurassic World Hollywood Winners Circle (Acting Course)  Detroit Eternal Code Revenge of the Mask The Crow (1994) Crow (short) Justin Mane on Instagram Dave Fairman on Instagram and Twitter

Travis Hayward
INDIEfinitive is a look at how we make films and the people we're lucky enough to meet and work with along the way.In this episode, I talk with filmmaker Travis Hayward. Travis made an appearance on episode 08 when we talked about some of our favorite movie villains from the 2000s. It was a lot of fun, but in this in this episode we're focusing more on career stuff. Travis is an extremely talented director and cinematographer. He's worked on commercials, music videos, short films, feature films, travel tv shows - he's really had a wide array of experiences and as a result has a lot of great knowledge to share. He was also the director of photography on our feature film DEBT. I learned a lot from him during that process and have enjoyed working with him on several other projects since then.  So thanks for listening, stay safe and healthy out there, and hope you enjoy my chat with Travis Hayward.SHOW NOTES:  INDIEfinitive now on YouTube “DEBT” (Director of Photography Travis Hayward) is available at DebtTheMovie.com or Amazon  Travis Hayward on Instagram and Youtube Resident Evil: Red FallsRainbow 6: Plan BUntitled (Short Film) Vice Grip (Short Film) Dave Fairman on Instagram and Twitter

Favorite Villains of the 2000s with Ashley Killips & Travis Hayward
INDIEfinitive is a look at how we make films and what we're thinking about along the way.   In this episode, Ashley Killips is back and we’re joined by director and cinematographer Travis Hayward. Travis is a really talented filmmaker and has a lot of experience and knowledge to share about making movies...but on today's episode we're talking bad guys. We cover our favorite movie villains from 2000 - 2009. There are a few crossovers, some obvious choices but some interesting surprises as well.  As always, remember this is INDIEfinitive - we're not claiming this is the end-all be-all list, these are just our favorite at the time we recorded.   Thanks for listening, stay safe and healthy out there and hope you enjoy the INDIEfinitive list of our favorite movie villains from the 2000s.SHOW NOTES:  INDIEfinitive now on YouTube “DEBT” (starring Ashley Killips, Director of Photography Travis Hayward) is available at DebtTheMovie.com or Amazon  Travis Hayward on Instagram and Youtube Ashley Killips on Instagram and Twitter Dave Fairman on Instagram and Twitter

Favorite TV Shows of the Last Decade with Ashley Killips
INDIEfinitive is a ride-along look at how we make films and what we're thinking about along the way.   In this episode, Ashley Killips and I are talking about our favorite television shows of the last decade. The only rules were that the show had to premiere in 2010 or later (tune in to see who didn’t totally follow that rule) and that in general we had to have seen just about all the episodes.  As always, remember this is INDIEfinitive - we're not claiming this is the end-all be-all list, these are just our favorite at the time we recorded.   Thanks for listening, stay safe and healthy out there and hope you enjoy the INDIEfinitive list of our favorite tv shows of the last decade. Nina Ham
INDIEfinitive is a ride-along look at how I, and the people I'm lucky enough to meet and work with, try to make stuff. On this episode I interview very talented director and cinematographer Nina Ham. I met up with Nina out in LA back in February.  Nina works on all kinds of projects - narrative shorts, narrative features, commercial projects, documentaries, etc.  She’s done work for the Hollywood reporter, including interviews with A-list talent and roundtables. Last year she traveled a great deal filming the impacts of legislation around the affordable care act on citizens.  Also, since recording this podcast (prior to the pandemic really taking hold in the US), she released a really clever horror short on her instagram channel that is linked in the show notes.  She’s got a great eye and the quality of her work is quite impressive.  It was great to talk to her - I think she’s got some really valuable viewpoints and perspective and philosophies to share. Hope you and your family are healthy and safe. Shane Hagedorn
INDIEfinitive is a ride-along look at how I, and the people I'm lucky enough to meet and work with, try to make stuff.    On this episode, Ashley Killips and I got the chance to interview actor, director, writer, and producer Shane Hagedorn.  If you pay attention to the Michigan film scene, you've probably heard of Shane or some of the work with which he's been associated. Wild Faith, Ashes of Eden, 40 Nights, Man's Best Friend, Eternal Code -  he's appeared in and often been quite involved behind the scenes on a lot of well-regarded Michigan-based films.  He likes to be constantly creating…or maybe more accurately, he MUST be constantly creating. For Shane, it's all about the need to continue putting things out to entertain people, to work hard at it, but also enjoy what you're doing and the people you're working with.  We'll cover all  that and a lot more. We really enjoyed talking to Shane and think you'll get something out of it. Hope you and your family are healthy and safe. Sherra Lasley
INDIEfinitive is a ride-along look at how I, and the people I'm lucky enough to meet and work with, try to make stuff. On this episode, I'm going back to my trip to California in February where I met with a few LA-based actors and filmmakers. This interview is with the very talented and very funny Sherra Lasley.Sherra is an actress, producer, voiceover artist, sketch comic - she does a lot of things. She went through the Second City program in Chicago and was very involved in the comedy scene there before eventually relocating to Los Angeles. Since then, she's continued to work on some great projects, including a dramatic comedy pilot called "A Beautiful Mess," a dramatic short film called "If I Go," an improve comedy web series called "Fix Your Life," episodes of the "Big Head" comedy parody series, and an episode of "The Happy." That's all in addition to a ton of voiceover work, additional acting and producing, and teaching a class. She does a lot, and through it all she seems to maintain a great philosophy in how she approaches creative work and collaborates with others. I really enjoyed talking to her and think you'll get something out of it. Hope you and your family are healthy and isolated during this crazy time. Thanks for listening. Bad Action Movies with Ashley Killips
INDIEfinitive is a ride-along look at how we make films and what we're thinking about along the way.   In this episode, Ashley Killips and I are talking about our five favorite bad action movies. And as we'll get into, we had to find some type of measurement for “bad” since we love these films. As always, remember this is INDIEfinitive - we're not claiming this is the end-all be-all list, these are just our five favorite at the time we recorded.   Thanks for listening, stay healthy out there and hope you enjoy the INDIEfinitive list of our five favorite bad action movies.  “DEBT” is available at DebtTheMovie.com or on Amazon  Ashley Killips on Instagram and Twitter Dave Fairman on Instagram and Twitter

Noah Baron
INDIEfinitive is a ride-along look at how I, and the people I'm lucky enough to meet and work with, try to make stuff.    Back in February, I traveled out to LA to record a couple interviews with some filmmakers. I was really grateful for the chance to meet and sit down with actor-producer-awesome Noah Baron (more on the “awesome” in the episode).   Noah has worked on some really cool projects including Hail Caesar! (directed by the Coen Brothers), ABC's “The Middle,” and a fantastic web series he helped produce called “Life After Power Rangers” which pretty hilariously asks the question you never realized you needed to know: what would a retired power ranger do with themselves once they were done saving the world.  Noah was a blast to chat with and had some really interesting thoughts to share on acting, producing, and his approach to being in the creative game.   Hope you and your family are healthy and isolated during this crazy time. You don't need another voice telling you what to do, but please just take this seriously and be safe.    SHOW NOTES:  NoahBaron.com Hail Caesar The MiddleLife After Power RangersNoah’s YouTube Channel Noah Baron on Instagram and Twitter Dave Fairman on Instagram and Twitter

Ashley Killips
INDIEfinitive is a ride-along look at how I, and the people I'm lucky enough to work with, try to make stuff.    For this episode I sat down with Ashley Killips. Ashley is a friend and frequent collaborator and will be on this podcast a lot as a guest and cohost. We’ve made a few shorts together and last year we released what was for both of us our first feature film, “DEBT.” She played the main character, Gina, was in every scene and never complained once. She’s really talented and great to work with.   We recorded this episode back in February, before the impacts of the virus were really being felt in this country and certainly in Michigan. So if it seems odd we’re not really acknowledging or talking about it, that’s why.    “DEBT” is available at DebtTheMovie.com or on Amazon  SHOW NOTES DEBTFive Year Engagement Tracker Love Immortal X-Files Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father Ashley Killips on Instagram and Twitter Dave Fairman on Instagram and Twitter

INDIEfinitive Episode 00: TRAILER
Hello I’m Dave Fairman and this is INDIEfinitive.   I’m a filmmaker - writer, director, editor, producer…occasionally a prop master, fight choreographer, or poor excuse for a wardrobe consultant. Whatever it takes to get stuff made.  And that’s what this show is really about: it’s about documenting my journey as a filmmaker and that of the people I’m lucky enough to work with.  It's a look at how we do it, the only way I know how. Hope you'll come along with us.    I don’t claim to know all the answers. This isn't your definitive guide to filmmaking. This is INDIEfinitive.
