S3 Ep16 Season 3 Tribe Finale! Follow Your Dreams, Even If You Don't Feel Ready.
This is the final episode for season three. I'm going to go on a bit of a hiatus, even though I'll be on hiatus for a bit, I more than likely will still pop on every now and again whenever I have something exciting to share! What I'm going to be heading into, for those of you that have been listening for a little while now, a few months ago I directed a project called The Good Balloon. I'm about to head into post-production on that. Finally, as many of you know, my first feature film is out into the world. We've had some wonderful reviews. Please check out Elevate Film on Amazon! Then, with my next feature film, this is the first time I'm actually using a professional script consultant! I'll be working with Pilar and am so nervous and excited about this, which leads me to the topic of today’s episode: Don't not do something, don't not move forward because you feel like you're not ready. elevatefilm.com

S3 Ep 13 Competition is Bullshit
If you keep your eyes on the prize, stay hyper focused, determined, do the work, DO THE WORK and don’t give up, you’ll find you’re so called competitors dropping off along the way. The truth of the matter is, there are tons of folks that “dabble” in this industry and are not operating at a competitive level at all.

S3 Ep 08 Actors and writers that want to self produce, #1 element to consider.
Today’s episode is for writers or actors that write and are thinking about self producing. The lead actress on the film I am currently directing, is also first time film producer, wrote the script and she is the star of the film. As many of you know I am passionate about helping actors and writers product their own projects though my self producing partner consulting program, and although Lita is not one of my students, her project embodies all the elements that I teach my students. Today I talk about what I think the most important element is when producing your own project: What story can you tell that will inspire people to want to help you make your movie?

S3 Ep 07 Working with Actors and Production Update!
Today's episode is super duper short but I thought I'd update you on what is happening now and give you two quick thoughts about preparing for your shoot in regards to working with your actors. If you are a first time director and wonder how to work with actors, this super quick episode is for you! In a nutshell though, TRUST THEM! If you cast your project properly you've cast actors that are trained and know what to do. Trust is everything! If you've cast someone more for their personality, trust that. We are shooting THE GOOD BALLOON in just a few short weeks and I can't wait to get on set. We have cast some super talented actors and even hired a YouTube sensation. I LOVE DIRECTING! I really hope you are spending your day on projects you love as well. #indiefilm #womenInFilm

S3 Ep 06 Deliverables/QC and Fixing it in Post.
If you are a First time director or producer and here a crew member say: don’t worry, we can fix it in post! WORRY! Absolutely worry and do whatever you can to handle everything you can while on set. Handling issues in post is expensive and does not always work out. If you want distribution for your film you have to pass QC, one way to make sure that you do before you go into post production, make sure you record, shoot EVERYTHING you planned to while on Especially sound. Have multiple takes of important scenes. I know as an indie filmmaker we are literally running against the clock with limited funds, but one way to get around this is to make sure to: note your most important scenes, meaning, scenes the film cannot do without and make sure, that no matter what: you get the audio, room tone, and you have multiple takes, even if you think you’ve captured what you need, ALWAYS ALWAYS do one more take for safety. I know that’s often not possible on every scene, so make sure to create a list, make sure your first AD knows which scenes are crucial. Because no matter what happens, there always seems to be some issue in the shot that everyone missed. Happens ALL THE TIME. Do one more take for safety on those crucial scenes. If you have a tired crew member say, “you can fix it in post”, remember, you are the one that has to live with these mistakes. Not your gaffer, not your sound guy, so get it while on set. Do whatever you have to do because I promise you, you don’t want to have to reshoot or pay a lab expensive fees to fix it later.

UPDATE: If this is your first time checking in with Indie Film Tribe, welcome! I am finishing writing my next feature script, I'm beginning prep on a short film that i’m super excited about but I miss my indie film tribe so I think for the next few weeks, let's just call these episodes mini spring/ summer sessions, I'll be on every week, but just in bite size chunks, and I'll share my journey with you Instead of waiting for it to end and then come back on. So instead of doing these epic 45 minutes episodes, in order to be more consistent, i’ll do mini episodes and today’s episode is all about film festivals and distribution for your first feature film!

S3 Ep 05 The Science of Emotions and Empathy 42:57 0 Season 3 Ep#5 The Science of Emotions and Empathy
So this episode is a bit of a departure from the Indie Film Tribe norm, but as an artist, I think you'll find this episode very interesting! Sourabh Kothari is an Indian man who grew up in China and spent most of his life here in the US. He has been a storyteller for some of the world’s largest brands, and his team was nominated for 2 Emmy awards when he was working in Silicon Valley at one of the world’s largest tech companies. Now he is the co-founder of IntentWave, where he’s building artificial intelligence that can sense emotions. At his company Intent Wave they’re building artificial intelligence that can sense human emotions through wearables like your Apple Watch. This allows us to create digital empathy, because we can reflect back to each person their own personality. Their own natural emotional and behavioral patterns, their own decisions, and ultimately what’s causing their stress, their pain, and how to start making small behavioral changes to be happier and healthier. S3 Ep 02 How Louisiana writer/director Joe Badon made his first feature film for $10,000
As you may or may not know I did end up taking a break from the podcast, you can hear about it Season 3 Ep #1, so this week’s episode was actually recorded a few months ago. What ended up being such a surprise, when I pulled up the filmmakers website to prepare for this email, it was such a wonderful surprise to see that his film has picked up so much traction since the last time we spoke. It’s interesting because when I interviewed him, he and I were both pretty frustrated about our first feature film not being accepted into many/any film festivals. He was struggling, I was struggling, and it’s so wonderful and fascinating to see how we both are now in a completely different place. Life is nuts, but this is such a lesson in having faith, patience and believing in your project. #TheGodInsideMyEar

S2 Ep4 Mid March Motivation with Becki Dennis.
I've brought back talented actor Becki Dennis from episode #8 ! In that episode she talked about being a plus size actor in Hollywood and shared her amazing journey from Boston to Los Angeles. check it out if you haven't, it's awesome! One of the reasons I love bringing back guests is because you get to witness their progress as they move forward in their careers after hearing the "behind the scenes" interview on the podcast. At the time of our last interview Becki had booked roles on THIS IS US, SPEECHLESS and a handful of other shows, and now about a year later, oh my gosh you guys, this woman is on fire! I found this episode to be incredibly inspiring for oh so many reasons. Her work ethic is undeniable, her focus, positive mindset and kindness are traits that I find to be truly admirable.
