Handling sudden fame and enjoying the thrill of "The Chase": there's more to Darragh Ennis than "The Menace". Darragh talks quizzing, fandom and Bradley Walsh.
If you're someone who likes TV quizzes, you'll know there were two major events that happened last year. One, was ITV's reenactment of the "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" cheating scandal centering around Major Charles Ingram. The other, was the addition of a new 'chaser'. Darragh Ennis isn't just any new cast member, though. His appointment has a very interesting story behind it. Darragh has loved quizzes for a long time. During this episode you'll hear the exclusive story of the previous television appearance that he made. Yes, I've exercised some detective skills, and found some very rare hidden footage of Darragh Ennis in action before The Chase was even on his radar! You'll also learn all about Darragh's 'mirror moment'. Darragh gives us his views on the passion people have for TV quizzes. He shares with us how he makes his living when he's not on TV and talks about his number one passion - his study of insects at Ilan Davis. He enlightens us on how he's handled fame. He also gives us his very honest take on how he's using Twitter. Darragh Ennis appears on "In Your Mirror" with the kind permission of ITV. Catch previous episodes of "The Chase" via the ITV hub. Overcoming sexism, bullying and online trolling: Absolute Radio's Sarah Champion wants the message to "be better" heard loud and clear.
The job of a radio presenter probably seems to the outside world to be one of the most glamorous jobs you could have. The perception has always been that people working in radio are always hanging out with rock stars and celebrities, and getting free meals and champagne sent to their table. However, the truth probably couldn't be more opposite. Absolute Radio star Sarah Champion has been in the business for quite a while, having started in local radio in her early twenties, and working her way up to national radio through hard work, and consistent performance. She's now the face and voice of Absolute Radio's annual summer festival coverage. If you're a listener during those months, you'll hear her chatting with the likes of Nik Kershaw and Noel Gallagher. She also has a very popular social media following and can often be seen posting adorable content on Instagram involving her cherished border terriers. She's also been known to cut the odd rug on Twitter. She's one of the chosen few in a very competitive industry. If you make it into a radio brand's inner sanctum, you can probably look forward to some of the longest hours, the lowest pay and the worst possible kind of treatment. If you don't make it on the content boss's radar, you can look forward to being shoved on a desk to do admin work and perhaps maybe given the task of reading the news or travel bulletins once an hour, as an 'opportunity'. At one time, it wasn't that ridiculous to learn that one of the regulars on your favourite morning show was actually on work experience, such was the exploitative nature of the radio business. Despite knowing Absolute Radio's Sarah Champion for a long time, this is my first time ever recording audio content with her. When I came up with the idea of "In Your Mirror" which is a podcast all about telling inspirational stories of people overcoming obstacles, I knew Sarah had to be one of my very first guests. As you will hear from the conversation, Sarah has a lot to say about the way women in the media are treated. Not just by their own bosses, but the wider general public. With any luck, if you, or someone you know, is going through some similarly awful treatment, this episode may hopefully inspire you to feel empowered to call it out, just as Sarah has. Solving the discoverability problem - it's like radio, but only plays podcasts: extraordinary and forward-thinking Podcast Radio CEO Gerry Edwards, its time to look in your mirror
This episode's guest ticks a lot of boxes for me, personally. As a former radio broadcaster of nearly thirty years, I have a passion for the medium of radio, on which Podcast Radio broadcasts. As the first ever professional podcaster, I have a passion for the content which Podcast Radio broadcasts. Gerard Edwards (Gerry to people he likes) is the CEO and voice of this exciting new digital radio station. Podcast Radio is available to listen to in several areas of the UK on DAB Digital Radio. You can find out if you can listen, here. There's no grey area, here. The station broadcasts podcasts. All day. Every day. Although.....there's a little more to it than that. It's not a simple case of "let's just take everyone else's existing content and repurpose it." The whole concept has been well thought out. And the audience is responding to it. Listen in as Gerry and I set the radio and podcasting worlds to rights. Oh, and if you want to know the secret of getting your podcast played on the radio station, he goes into that too! We discuss both radio and podcasting at great length, and then I say to him, "Let's look in your mirror?".... "In Your Mirror" is a Podknows Podcasting Network Show. The chances are, if you're reading this, you're wanting to get some powerful insights into the mindset of a wealthy business owner. You more than likely want to be a multi-millionaire business owner much like this episode's guest, Brad Sugars. Without wishing to offer up too many spoilers, Brad is the owner and Chairman of the highly successful international business coaching franchise Action Coach. The ethos of the company is helping as many business owners as possible to achieve financial freedom, as quickly as possible. In addition to the work his company does on a wider global scale, Brad himself keeps his coaching 'hand in'. If you're quick, you'll be able to book on his next Apprentice Billionaire programme and there's also the 30x Success virtual summit. If you're more of a learning on your own steam kind of person, here's one of Brad's books you can get stuck in to. Brad loves to connect, so make sure that you do connect with him on Linkedin so you can keep updated on all of his 'Drivetime' content. In the interests of full transparency, I myself am a client of Action Coach although they haven't paid me for featuring Brad in this episode. I just find him and his story fascinating. If you want to have a free initial chat with my coach, Rob Pickering (I highly recommend him), you can do that here. Regardless of that, I wanted to get inside the mind of the man who originated so much of the wisdom that's now being distributed to business owners around the world through coaching. Listen in as I attempt to unlock and unravel all of the success secrets from Brad, and then say to him, "Let's look in your mirror?".... "In Your Mirror" is a Podknows Podcasting Network Show. Almost Famous: getting ghosted by Simon Cowell and then cable plugging in Dragon's Den: Danielle Barnett, it's time to look in your mirror
A lot happened back in 1997. Tony Blair won a significant contest and there were a few other significant moments too. Sadly, there was one major movement that didn't happen. It could have all been so different for Danielle Barnett. After studying the practices of NLP, Danielle is now fully rebranded as "The Now Coach", helping people to become happy as a therapist. But it wasn't always plain-sailing, and in this episode you'll hear Danielle's incredible story. It's quite something. There are quite a few cameos in this tale, including; Simon Cowell, The Urban Cookie Collective, Strike, Diane Charlemagne, the BBC's Dragon's Den, and even Coldplay... However, the headliner is without a doubt, Princess Diana. I'm not joking. Listen in as I talk to Danielle, and say to her, "Let's look in your mirror?"....
